And for those of us who are being robbed of that which IS fun? Some people don't like random, meaningless "run around, shoot stuff" crap. Just like some people don't like MMORPG's. Some of us actually ENJOY the exploration factor, and having that torn away from one of our few good, strong adventure series (what is the plural of series?) hits us about as hard as making Final Fantasy into a MMORPG did. Watching one of the few games we have left be turned into some stupid, meaningless shoot-em-up for the majority crowd to go "BOO YEAH!!!" about IS NOT FUN. I'm sorry if I actually prefer a little more intelligence in my gaming experience than "OOOH, SHOOTY BLOODY CHUNKY!!!". Metroid USED to be good. This is not good. |

So... go find a game that is of the sort you like. If you don't like the way Metroid is going, doing give the company your money anymore. If enough people do that, they'll wise up. |

Metroid WAS a game of the sort I like. That's why I'm upset. Like I said, it's not so different from Final Fantasy XI. They took something I enjoyed and they butchered it. |

And Terra, just so you know, you got it right. The plural of series is series, just like the plural of fish is fish. The English language can be wierd like that sometimes.

*sighs* Sorry, I'm just kinda tired and kinda bored. It's really hard to find a good, fun game lately. Half the games out there are military training simulations, then another sizeable chunk are crime games. As these two dominate the market, what's left of the market is scattered, and maybe 4% of what's out there is actually good. I don't like meaningless shoot-em-ups. To me, an FPS needs to have some hook besides the shooting. Metroid had that. It had its huge world of exploration. It had a wonderful adventure to go with the action, and that made me happy. Without that exploration and adventure, it just becomes something like DOOM 3 or Darkwatch, both of which bored me to tears. With crappy games dominating the market, I don't want to give up my Metroid. And I know that Nintendo is going to think that it's a wonderful idea, because they will get a lot of sales from a) the people who enjoy games like DOOM 3 and Darkwatch and don't care for anything other than killing lots of stuff, b) the Nintendo purists who think everything Nintendo does is flawless and buy everything they put out, and c) people who believe it's going to be a Metroid game. There's not much out there for someone like me. I don't like watching what little I DO have be taken away. |

I've been playing Shadow of the Colossus lately. The premise.... sounds dubious. 12 enemies? I could beat it in an hour.... how wrong I was. Each enemy is a puzzle in itself, as you try and figure out how to kill it. The enemies are imense. You spend ages climbing to get to the right point. The only drawback is its fairly easy to get lost in between fights, but otherwise its an excellent game. Remember kids, if you want to kill something, climb onto its head and stab it in the brain. |

Well, I'm not all that fond of FPS either, Terra. However, I do like genres such as 2D fighters and shoot-em-ups (NOT the same as FPS, I mean the likes of Gradius, etc.), which I guess could be considered a bit repetitive from the gameplay standpoint, and especially from a plot standpoint. But I like how I can pick up and play them, enjoying them just as much, if not more, than the first time I did. It becomes more of an issue with RPGs, though, which I rarely ever play more than one time through for whatever reason. I'd probably find the Metroid series to be enjoyable too, but haven't had a chance to play any of the Metroid games except Fusion, which I thought was okay. In any case, even if we were to disagree on what kind of games we like, I can at least relate to what you feel like there, since 2D fighters and (even more so) shoot-em-ups are also a bit of a dying breed among video games today.

The only two things that really kill XI are the same two things I hate about XII Auto Attacking and completely FUCKING up summons. |

11 Actually has a fantastic story, if you can level up high enough to see it. It has the character development, the cool NPCs, the crazy monsters, and so on -- Chains of Promathia in particular was really really fun until I couldn't go anymore -- I just wish they had made it single-player and easier to level, so I could go through it all. Because of that, I'm really looking forward to FF12. |

but having you automatically attack takes the fun out of half the game, hell I could clean the house while I level as a warrior. |

If you're playing an FF game for gameplay mechanics, and it's not FFT, you're doing something wrong. |

Then play a Mage. Warriors auto-attack EXACTLY like that in WoW, aside from when you build up enough Rage. |
