Likewise. As things stand now, though, the Revo is the only console I'm even considering picking up with this gen of consoles. For the first time, the handhelds have really caught my interest more, for some reason. |

I'm planning on waiting until they stop putting out games for PS2 and Xbox before I decide whether I want to go PS3 or 360. Revo's not even under consideration. |

I'm going to grab a PS3 when it comes out. Pretty much end of story. The new Blu-Ray Discs they're going to be using can hold vastly more information then the discs 360 and Revolution will be using (If I recall correctly, a Blu-Ray PS3 disc can hold 5 times more gigs then a 360 disc, meaning more lines of code, beter graphics, longer and more intricate games, etc). 360 looks like it has some neat games, but anything I've tried at the stores that I thought looked good in ads has had a lot more Graphics then Gameplay, and hasn't been as fun as it looked. The Revolution... Well... I mean, it's Nintendo, I can't just abandon them, they're obviously hurting. The new system's graphics won't be much better then the Gamecube (Admitted fact by Nintendo themselves), the discs won't be much bigger... Nintendo's entire "Next Gen" console is going to revolve around a fancy new remote, and that's it. I'll grab it once the prices start dropping so I can get things like the Metroid, Zelda, and Mario games, but Nintendo has fallen far since the good old days of Nintendo vs Genesis... |

I may still pick up a PS3 eventually. Definitely not around the time of its release, though. I've been late in picking up both of Sony's previous consoles, with PS1 for Christmas 2000 and PS2 last October. This'll be no exception. One of the biggest motivations for me to pick it up at some point would be the alleged Psychic Force sequel in the works. If that comes around (and gets a U.S. release), I can guarantee that I'll have the console... within a few years. Revo is still the only one I'd consider picking up at launch, though, and the 360 is out of the picture for the same reasons FZ just mentioned. |

X-Box 360's library is positively anemic. And as for the PS3... I'll consider it when they've got more solid info out than the Phantom. Revolution is actually looking to be pretty darn cool. Depending on the pricing system for buying old games through it, and how they deal with certain games(Smash Bros. comes to mind), I may get it. |

Umm how the hell does having more info = better and longer games? In fact, all it equals is potientially better graphics and more capability which designers probably won't use considering most developers don't use the space they already have, especialyl considering how much of a pain in the ass the thing is suppose to be when developing on. Also how is Nintendo hurting? They're #1 in profits, they have better third partie relations then ever before and have had nothing but positive reviews of their controller. Also the disc are bigger and the graphics will defintely be better (sure not near PS3 and Xbox 360 but enough to do with what you got Xbox 360, give it time especially near when Kotor comes. |

That is incredibly cynical. It's true in a real sense, but TECHNICALLY not so. Let's say you've got 1GB. 400MB goes to graphics, 300MB to engine, and that gives you 300MB for scripting/scenarios/etc. etc. Now let's say you've got 2GB. it'd be more like 1GB to graphics, 500MB to engine, but you've still got 500MB to flesh out the game itself. Although the ratio becomes more unbalancing each iteration, it's still entirely feasible and possible to have MORE GAME when you have MORE SPACE. Whether or not they're better is dependent on how good the game designers and writers are. And yes. The playstation is NOTORIOUS for how impossible to work with the devkits are. |

The potential is there. At first new developers are always shy about new tech. The first PS2, Gamecube, and X-Box games are no where near what their modern cousins are up to, because it took time for developers to start pushing the limits of the tech. And the development issues are in creating the discs (Which will require some factory changes) But once the changes are made, it'll be as easy as anything else. I'll admit, even with it being adopted by Sony for the PS3, the future of the Blu-Ray is not set (The new DVD system that holds about 50% of the space (Still more then current DVDs) is going to hit probably a full year before Blu-Ray is perfected, it could control the market by the time Blu-Ray finally starts hitting stands). However, there is enough potential behind it that I'd still place my bet with Sony and the PS3. And #1 in profits? Are you on crack? Do a quick search. All you see across the board are reports of Nintendo in a profits slump, profits down, even post DS. The Gamecube and the GBA SP have been dragging the system through the mud, and the DS has turned a fiery tail-spin into a unsteady, but salvageable, flight plan to keep it going a bit longer. Considering Nintendo's poor luck with the 64 and the Gamecube, I don't see the Revolution pulling it's ass out of the fire. I still don't think it's going to crash and burn yet, but the more I learn, the less good it looks for Nintendo. |

I only use consoles for Fighting games and J-RPGs now. I'm not in any hurry to get an expensive system for doing that. Bottom line is going to be what games intrest you the most... except X-Box, unless you really need DOA (or one of the other titles in the minority of not reaching PC). Every time I hear news about games coming out for the PSP I want one more. o_o And I swear this thread has had this conversation solid for half a year now.

Half a year? Probably longer. It always seems to come back to the war over consoles that aren't even out yet... Also, after giving Neverwinter Nights another chance and really devoting time to it, I'm liking it a lot. The Wand of Infinite Frost Beams is the greatest invention ever (Means that my wizard can keep casting even when he runs out of spells since he sucks at non-magic. I wish Baldur's Gate had had that...) and while I haven't extensively studied D&D 3.5 rules, I'm still finding it pretty easy to get going quickly. Also, the fact that you can customize your gear is the best ever. I took a pathetic looking robe and a simple wooden quarterstaff, and customized them into a very nice looking wizard robe with an intricate metal staff. My only complaint is the AI on your allies tends to be... Pretty idiotic. They get stuck on objects, they don't attack foes that fast, and are unable to do their job of keeping enemies from pounding my cloth wearing ass (I forgot how weak Cloth Wearers are supposed to be, after playing WoW so long and having a cloth wearer that tanks for his own minions...). |

The discs are going to be standard DVDs, to make it easier for cross-platform games to be made. And shush, they have the controller shell, which would allow cross-platform games to exist. Granted, I know nothing about specs, but I think the discs are going to be bigger, by virtue of being DVDS... |

I'm not a melee lock! I just end up pulling so much aggro, I always pull them off my Minion... I guess I'm a melee lock by force, not by choice, although I do have more HP then my Voidwalker... And DotA is vastly overrated. I look at my folder of maps and weep at all the good stuff no one plays. Parasite, The 11th Vampire, Murder at the Mansion, Pyramid Escape (A personal favorite, because I've never, ever seen it won and I want to win one, damnit). I think SOL's RPG is my favorite map of all time. It's broken as hell (Places you can build bases that are immune to melee attack, Empires can kill Heroes by building Air Units and rushing their homes), but the way some games can play out can be awsome (I've still never played a game long enough to become a God, but I've gotten close...). EDIT: Do Nintendo Profits 2005. Just normally doing it gets you plenty of old reports. |

It also can't be understated that Nintendo saw a profit in its last quarter. By comparison, Sony Computer Entertainment today reported a quarterly loss of 5.9 billion yen ($52.6 million). Last week, Microsoft's Home and Entertainment division, which makes the Xbox, said it lost $179 million during its last quarter. They had a slow quarter... youuuuur poiiiint? http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/28/news_6129939.html Edit: Just wait for Metroid Hunters and Tetris DS... those'll boost sales figures... |

SOE's having a rough quarter because of all the R&D costs with the PS3, and the fact that the PSP is flagging a lot (And I can't blame them, in my opinion the PSP selection isn't looking good enough to justify a purchase). However, where as the Gamecube has sold close to 20 million units (Here) and is in decline, over 90 million ps2s have been sold (Here, scroll down), and sales are still rising. The mass success of the DS is helping Nintendo sales this late in the game since it's a recent release, while the Sony hasn't had anything new to boost sales in a while, but Sony's MASSIVE Console AND Gaming sales (They have sold 3 times as many games, and made about 3 times as much money off their Top 10 games over nintendo's top ten games as seen Here) are providing a lot more funding sitting in reserve to keep going then Nintendo, which continues to rely on more sales currently. Effectivly, the numbers are tweaked because while SOE has more sold overall and has more cash in general, they're spending more on R&D and are lacking any recent major developments to boost sales, unlike the Nintendo with their DS. |
