Sonic Rush is fun and healthy. Blaze plays almost exactly the same as Sonic, but eh. At least there's only two playable characters (unless Knuckles is providing back up for Amy... checked the characters in the instruction manual...), and it appears that they have different levels. And she's a cat with fire magic. Not too shabby. So far, my favorite Tetris version on the DS is the Catch variety. Though, I could have hours of fun playing through them all. And Push is awfully frustrating. |

Amen. The name 'tis dead to me. I shall only make Squenix purchases if they be remakes or from the Enix side of the employees. With the departure of the now-Mistwalker, the Square side of the dual organism is dead, KH being the necromancy that keeps the corpse's body moving enough to keep up with the Enix half. |

I would like to know, exactly, what it is about that article that's causing such attitudes. Although, from the sounds of it, I can't help but think that you're both just so wrapped up in your anti-Square propaganda to think any different.

Well for one thing the elimination of hte turn-based battle system. Ever heard the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? For another, the phrase "movie styled approach" in conjuction with the increase in FMV amounts these days fills me with dread. For a third, long load times and bizarre camera movement "minor niggles"? SOund big to me. Can't stand 'em. No money from monsters? WHY? Sounds like a pointless change to me. THe increased challenge and game length sound good, but are overshadowed by the problems. It doesn't SOUND REMOTELY like an FF to me. SOunds like an entirely different new series with the FF title to increase sales. The FF I love belongs to Mistwalker. Period. |

From what the article itself and several others have said, it's FFXI's battle system. Attacks generally don't have a charge time in SO3, you can't give commands remotely, and there is no such thing as autoattack... edit: At the same time, there is a such thing as innovation being good. Aren't people applauding the Revolution and the DS for that very reason? Why is it good when Nintendo does it, but Square does it and "ZOMG, ebil!"? Personally I thought the turn-based system of the old FFs was getting stale. *shrug* I'm not particularly impressed by the review, but I hardly think it's a bad thing. |

And XI didn't exist. It wasn't a final fantasy. It was a FInal Fantasy themed MMO. Change the skins, and you get another series. |

Set the character you play as to Automatic Bam, auto-attack. ![]() And Symbology has charge times, and while you can't give direct commands, you can at least tell the AI a general idea of what you (don't) want it to do. EDIT: Okay, you're just a purist, then Randy, that's why you don't like it. Gotcha. |

That doesn't work from what I can tell. They just stand there. Also, I made a rather lengthy edit to my previous post before realizing that you guys weren't having the forum slowness issues I was. edit: Oh, another problem I have with it is it sounds like they're doing the Sphere grid again. Screw you, S-E. |

NOt exactly a purist, just don't particularly like the changes made post-6/7. 9 was a step in the right direction, but 10 was a even bigger step away from the kind of game I like. This seems like an eve bigger step so far away from the things that made the series attractive to me in the first place that I can't SEE said series in it anymore, hence why I say that the FF I loved belongs to Mistwalker, and all Square has is the name. Edit: Amen. Why take away leveling? I mean, was something WRONG with it? DId it lower the quality of the game? It seems like they always replace old things with things of lower quality... New is fine, its just that substituting bad things for good things and calling it progress is bad. |

I see why they did it. It's all a customization thing, and choosing exactly what your character has and such. I vastly prefer a system that has a normal-ish leveling system AND some customizability. |

Truth be known, I didn't mind the sphere grid. It gave a measure of freedom towards the end of the game that I really appriciated, and it was strict enough in the beginning of the game to maintain the appearance of having a "Class" system. |

There's hardly any differance in the bottom line. Leveling system: Kill things, become stronger. Sphere grid: Kill things, become stronger. |

If there isn't a difference, why change? Edit: Also, with the sphere grid, you level up bit by bit, a little of one stat at a time. Like how for like TWENTY FUCKING LEVELS AURON ONLY GAINS HP. |

Turn-based battle had a good run FROM FF1-FF3. From FF4-FF10, it was the Active Time Battle system. For FF11 and FF12, it sounds like they're going for something different, applying the MMOG controls to an RPG... sounds like KotOR to me. As for the "movie-styled" approach you lament, well. That's one of my problems... not so much the length of the scenes as the fact that the scenes sometimes end up being something I could have easily controlled myself. And you'll recall that FF8 also had no money from monsters. It's a silly and contrived concept that enemies drop "gil". |

It's the principle of the end product. Normal leveling system: Every character follows a known progression based on their talents. Plus, it's AUTOMATIC. Sphere-grid: Characters start of on a known path, yes... but if you are one of those people that just HAS to max out your characters, not only is it nearly impossible, but the end product is everyone being identical. Yay. The higher level they get, the more similar they all get. It's not a BAD system, just... a little annoying in philosphy. |

Because leveling is static and accepts no player input on the direction of that character's abilites? Having a choice is always preferable, even if you follow the same path the computer would have picked for you anyway. EDIT: Ah, well. As someone who never bothers to max out characters unless *absolutely* necessary, I can't really say that it bothers me, though I can see where you're coming from, Mordy. |
