Have you played Superstar Saga or Mario RPG? It's like them, but better.

By the end of a PM game, the possible strategies you'll be using are about ten times whatever you could come up with by the end of Superstar Saga.

Also, whenever you level, you gotta choose between HP, FP(Think magic points) and BP(Think AP) to increase, making you think about what you really need more of at any given time.

It may be an easy game compared to most FF, but it does make you think an awful lot.

Badgepoints are the way to go. Real Marios need no stinking HP! We dodge! And we need no FP! Badges can drop our magic costs to nil!

We are the Badgespammers. Your existence, as you know it, is over. We will not add your tactical and strategic distinctiveness to our own, because frankly, we don't fix what ain't broked. Your style will adapt, to service us. Resistance is futile.

Paper Mario 2 is a must. Even after you beat the game you can keep playing it. Litterally. If you win and save, you can start the game AFTER you've saved the world and everybody is just so impressed to see you and all.

So it's like Earthbound....

Earthbound was never released in the UK. Hence, Ness was a total mystery to us in SSB.

Indeed. Ness was the master of obscurity.

Although I knew of the Earthbound games by their Japanese title. Mother or something like that.

Has anyone mastered the "Dodge with B" technique in PM2? I've pulled it off a few times, but I'm not sure when to press B.

It's the same as A. You just have to be a lot closer to the mark.

Paper Mario 2 is freaking great. You should really get it. It really pushes the envelope for what you'd expect from a Mario game. As an example, at one point in the game you have to do a favor for a mafia don (No, you don't have to knock someone off). Overall, I think that the individual chapter plotlines were immensely fun (The overall plotline was decent), especially chapters 4 and 6, and the dialogue is often funny (though I didn't notice as many jokes as in the first one...). Also, I never get tired of watching the graphical tricks they play with the paper world. One moment you have a staircase in front of you, and the next moment it becomes visually flat and flipped over like a page in a book, and the next moment it's a normal staircase again, leading the opposite direction.
And on top of all that, the battle system is pretty fun. Each attack has a different timing trigger, and a "stylish" trigger for refilling star points (used in special attacks). Of course, you should be used to the basics of the timed attack system (Though the timing for the hammer attacks are significanly different than Superstar Saga's, using the joystick instead of the buttons)
Nintendo does an awesome job of blending RPGs and platformers.

And in the end it was incredibly gratifying to be able to return to the main towns and have people actually recognize Mario for having saved the world. You really don't get that in most RPGs.
You know one think I really missed, though, was the parade. You remember in Mario RPG and the first Paper Mario? The big parade they held for you at the end where you got to see all the major characters and bosses etc. with random floats and stuff? That was really fun to watch. A heck of a lot better than watching sillohuets of characters walk circles around screenshots while the credits roll... It kinda felt like you actually got a reward for beating the final boss rather than just a quick wrapup... Anyway, I seem to have gone off on a tangent.

I also highly recommend Katamari Damacy. Granted, the game is quite short (two or three days of heavy playing may have you finishing every level), but it is really fun, and has a fair amount of replay value. At least rent it, if you don't want to buy a game you're going to beat too quickly. I'd try to describe the game for you, but it pretty much speaks for itself. You roll a ball around, it picks stuff up, gets bigger, picks up bigger stuff. You might want to go to a game news site and see if you can get a few videos of it to get a better idea, if you haven't already seen it being played.
And as a side note, the music in the game is quite good. The opening theme is very catchy. (How can a single phrase of music be so damn catchy!? No, the theme itself isn't a single phrase of music, but the catchy part is.)

Oh, and all the battles are fought on a stage in front of an audience for some completely unexplained reason (although something in the ending might be poking at a reason) The stage mechanics, while they might sound kind of bizarre at first, are quite entertaining. You have to keep your audience entertained to use special attacks. People might throw rocks at you, or items. Random stage crap happens like sandbags and lights falling, or stage fog causing attacks to miss. Parts of the background occaisionally fall over, doing 1 damage to everyone.

And on that note, hey, it was the day of his daughter's wedding, does that mean you should get double favors or something.

Wait.... did Delphino Island just become Itally?

I keep imagining scenes from the Godfather, but with Mario characters.

...makes me giggle, it does.
