Most final bosses are depressingly easy. A few exeptions I can think of are...
Lunar 1 and 2, FF8, BoF3 (not so much hard as long)... errr theres more but I cant think of em atm, those ones are pretty good though.

I never had any trouble with the final bosses of FF4 or KH1.

Ansem gave me some trouble at first untill i got to say about level 40 and had decent weapons.

Kefka was one of my toughest fights because I used the moogle charm through my first playthrough of 6.

BOF3's boss was only hard because she spamed status effects, and the second most powerful character was uncontrolable at full force.

Chrono Trigger's final boss battle was reasonably difficult and long the first time through, not to mention that it had a rather unique twist to it. I'd say Smithy in Super Mario RPG was also a lengthy and occasionally tough battle. More recent games seem to be lacking in final boss difficulty, though. I think part of the problem is that a lot of games have their hardest boss fights before the end of the game, and that makes the last battle seem easier than it actually is in comparison. For example, the last battle in Final Fantasy Tactics isn't necessarily that easy, but compared to fighting Wiegraf, or Marquis Elmdor and his ladies, it's cake.

I'd also say the trend is less pronounced outside of the RPG genre. Other types of games tend to have more titles with worthy final fights.

Well Wiegraf and Marquis Elmdor were insanely hard, hell those guys are harder than the optional boss, I was dissapointed that FFT's boss didn't call in some high leveled help.

Sorry no. Smithy wasn't tough. The game as a whole was pretty much over the moment mario learned super jump>.>. Well, the moment you figured out super jump anyways(probably monstero(sp?)).

The ultima demons level with you...

Its really funny doing a speed FFT run. I had a game of FFT where I got into 1 random fight the entire game - in chaper 4 (during the long hike from east to west). The ultima demons in the fight are relatively weak, but the boss itself was way stronger than most of my party. I know I beat the boss without too much trouble when I initailly did this run, but I loaded it up recently for shits and giggles and got my ass handed to me.

A level 27ish chemist is my healer in that save. Ramza is only around mid 30s at best. Most enemies around that point are about level 50. I don't think I used Orlando but I probably did use Agreas(sp).

The scaled NPCs never pose nearly as much of a threat as scaled monsters.

Lv 99 version of the strongest type of minotaur type thing, those hurt a lot, and can wipe you if your not careful.

The thing is if the NPC's were given their class skills instead of random stuff now dangerous they would truly be, the enemy AI is not that bad, they just don't have anything to work with.

Oooh... nifty.

I'm plaing through again on the GBA version (love my DS  :^_^: )

I always thought of the portables as for us secret cabal of gamers who like actual gameplay and in particular, 2d games. We're just waiting to rise up, and take back gaming(no, not Nintendo, fans of 2d gaming, Sega fans included)! The hobbyists of yore who liked the old gen and are waiting to take back their subculture from the brutal molestation it's endured from the general public.

The DS is the first system thats done it right. Certain games, like platformers and puzzle games need to be 2d, while other games, such as racers, fps, and fpa like Metroid, need to be 3d. The DS is truely the first system I've ever seen to have equal amounts of both 2d and 3d gaming. Its the first system to dispell the notion that everything has to be 3d. More than all the features, more than just having good games(which the GBA already did), THAT is why I support the DS. It brought back 2d gaming while still giving the nod to 3d gamings best. Thats whats so radical about the DS, not the touch screen. The fact that it supports so many genres and does them all with the PROPER graphical tool. Hell, even even brought back point and click adventure games. The only thing it lacks is fighting games(and thats only in the US!). Get me that, and then my life will be complete

Thankyou and goodnight ladies and gentlemen :P.

Wait...what?

You had no problem with Zeromus, but you did with Ultimecia!? How is that possible?

Zeromus...was one hell of a long fight, as I recall. Must have been almost two years since I faced him last...

*Resolves to get around to going into the last dungeon in the gba game.

Anyway.

The final boss of any given game is a difficult thing to deal with from the designers point of view. You have to make it more of a challenge than everything else in the game (except possibly sub-quests), but it's easy to miss the mark as what is difficult for one party might be very easy for another of the same level.

I never run from battles, unless its gonna kill me big time and i get lost alot on the world map in some RPGs so i tend to be overleved by the final bosses.

I did run into sephiroth in KH2 and was disapointed that you had to fight him again I was hoping for someone new, and finally

To Mordain : I leveled from 40 to 99 in earthbound trying to get the kings sword for Poo...AND I NEVER FREAKING GOT IT, with a Super Starman kill tally at about 750

ME TOO!

I never got it, over 1000 stsarmen killed and I got every other random chance weapon in the game.
