Tycho talked a lot but offered no proof except for the article itself, and the article basically says "Yeah, I know a guy that knows a guy, and he TOTALLY says they'll show Halo 3 at E3. Totally." Far be it from me to argue that such concrete evidence might be nothing but rumor, but I'll just sit back and wait.

Malia Weinhagen talking about her father Dave Arneson

"The biggest thing about my dad's world is he wanted people to have fun in life," Weinhagen said. "I think we get distracted by the everyday things you have to do in life and we forget to enjoy life and have fun.

"But my dad never did," she said. "He just wanted people to have fun."

Amusing, but I'd be more impressed if the hero could actually be injured during that fight.

Denile? Like, the river in Egypt? Or did you mean denial?
Oh, and I got around to beating Zeromus in the FF4 gba remake yesterday. Cecil was about level 59. Oddly enough, him and Rydia were the only ones to die during the entire battle.
Although he perished once(right before the end before he could be revived), while Rydia must have perished at least five times.

My team was: Rydia, Cid, Rose and Yang.

Cid? Yang? I beat him something like ten levels lower with Edge and Spoony.

...then again, stealing dark matter really helps.

Yeah, well, I didn't actually do any training. Just went through the place fighting everything...Levelled right up to that.

Although I did make a point of exploring a whole lot throughout the game. Making sure I didn't miss anything.

And I didn't have dark matter, thankyouverymuch. It's strange really...on the PSX version, I had all kinds of trouble with Zeromus at a higher level than that. Taken an age to beat him. This time it taken all of ten minutes.

Nintendo today announced the new name of their next-generation handheld. The new handheld gaming device is meant to completely revolutionize handheld gaming. The new name is "Uzz," pronounced like the word "Us."

We've copied Nintendo's hype-filled prose explaining the new handheld below, in italics:

"Introducing ... Uzz. As in "us." We at Nintendo felt that it had been too long since we put out the DS. We were not keeping up with the standards of console output set by Sega so many years back; while the DS Lite represented a wonderful cash cow, we needed a brand new handheld, to be released with our crowning achievement, the Wii, in order to milk as much money as we could out of the mindless peons--I mean, joyful consumers.

The Uzz represents the finest in handheld gaming. As we have proven time and again in the past, the consumer loves anything that is new and original. This has guided us in the design specs of our latest design, which we are proud to announce will be unlike anything the consumer has ever seen before.

The Uzz's name sounds like 'us', to symbolize that the Uzz will be playable by up to four different players at the same time. Utilizing the multiple screen technology made popular by the DS, we have installed four screens in a 2x2 grid on this proud handheld. While it is true that these four screens make the Uzz the size of a SNES console, we are confident that players will not mind carrying it with them, to play at school or just with your friends. To help with this, we are selling seperately a carrying case that fits easily to your back, just for transporting this proud handheld and its controllers.

The controllers attach by cables to the handheld. Because of the bulk already caused by the four screens, and due to issues with trying to crowd four people in to touch the Uzz at once, we instead have chosen to supply special controllers. Following the success of the Wii's controller, these instruments, shaped in a streamlined spherical fashion, should mold easily to each player's hands while allowing for easy access to all 17 key buttons. In addition to the innovative and simplistic shape, this allows for the player to exercise all of his fingers, as opposed to the competition only giving room for the thumb. We at Nintendo endorse a good workout for the hands.

Sleek and streamlined, coming in both blindingly-illuminating silver, and angry-consumer red, that's Uzz. The name sounds like 'us', because it will bring all of us together to play on one simple handheld. The spelling also reminds one of 'uzi', because that is what you'll wish you had when you shell out our predicted price of $185 for this crap. But now Nintendo needs you. Because, it's really not about you or me. It's about all of Uzz, working together to put more money in the pockets of Nintendo executives.
"

...yeah...uh...no more coffee for me in the mornings.

Okay, with Proud Mode defeated, (Proud Final Xemnas defeated at level 39, whoo!) it's time for my review of KH2.

! POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD !

First and foremost, let me say, that this game is immensely fun, a great addition to nearly anyones PS2 library.

With that out of the way, and I need to be clear on this, Kingdom Hearts 2 is not without it's flaws.

Story:

The story is deep and complex...as long as you played the original and Chain of Memories for the GBA. Anyone else is going to be completely lost, and I mean COMPLETELY. This game also follows the trend of the two previous games, in where most of the Disney worlds have NOTHING to do with the overall story. I won't lie, unless you're a hardcore Disney fan, there are times where you find yourself wishing that you could just get back to the main story. The second half of the game *tries* to remedy this, and it's not bad, though in every world, it's pretty much just a lead-in to a big boss battle, some story related, some not.

Something irritating to me was the emphasis that was put on *several* of the characters introduced in the opening prologue, but who seemed to freaking DISAPPEAR until the very end of the game. Namine, DiZ, Axel, I'm looking at you.

Like Kingdom Hearts, one of KH2's drawing points is its rich story, but only if you don't get bogged down by seemingly pointless Disney worlds that contribute almost nothing to the overall plot.

Graphics:

This game is just flat-out better looking than the original. No real surprise there. But what's really amazing is the complete and absolute lack of any load times or slowdown with multiple enemies on the screen. The game is vibrant and colorful, and the character design is superb (Though I wish they'd make Cid more...Cid-like)

Music and Voice Acting:

I absolutely *adore* the music in this game, from the very beginning, you're treated to the wonderful Utada Hikaru song "Passion" played during the opening CG, and it only gets better from there. This is the first game I could ever see myself purchasing the Official OST for.

Voice Acting is very well done, with a few hiccups. One of the character's ("Ansem") voice actors didn't return for the sequel, and while his replacement does a good job, it can be kind of jarring for anyone who's played the orignal. Two other characters (Aerith and Cid) have, quite possibly, the absolute worst voice actors for their characters EVER.

And I mean, EVER.

Gameplay:

And here we are, the meat and potatos of Kingdom Hearts 2. The combat system has been rebuilt from the ground up, creating a seemless near-masterpiece that outpaces the original in practically every conceivable way. The camera has been fixed, allowing for far more freedom than it's counterpart. Sora himself is far more fluid in combat, which is a welcome change. Donald and Goofy, who's AI in the orignal was decent at best, almost laughably wasteful at worst, has recieve a nice rework, allowing you to pick how you want them to support you in battle.

The newest addition to the show, is the Drive Gauge, which, when filled to a certain level, allows you to merge with your party members to become far, far stronger than Sora along, depending on which form you pick.

Driving with Goofy creates Valor Form, which heavily increases your attack power and allows you to use two keyblades at once.

Driving with Donald creates Wisdom Form, which heavily increases your magic power, and gives you far more mobility.

Driving with both your party members creates Master Form, which lets you equip two keyblades and increases both your attack and magic power, though not as high as their individual counterparts.

It's a very handy tool to have at your disposal, though sometimes it can backfire, sending you into an "Anti-Form", in this form, Sora scrambles about on all four legs, much like a Shadow Heartless. It's capable of long combo attacks, but can't heal in any way, so it can be a liablity if you're not careful.

Drive Gauges are also used for Summons, which include Genie, Stitch, Chicken Little, and Peter Pan.

My only complaint about the Drive Gauge is the fact that it's absolutely worthless if you have no party members with you, which can be somewhat frustrating.

Magic has recieved an overhaul as well. Instead of the "boxes" of Kingdom Hearts, you now have an MP Bar, which allows, overall, for more and longer magic capabilities. The exception is the Cure spell, which instantly drains you of all your MP. When the MP Bar is used up, it slowly begins to fill itself back up, and when it is complete, you can begin to cast magic again.

The tweak to Cure can be frustrating, but it's a necessary addition, as Cure in the previous game was far too easy to abuse.

Magic as a whole...isn't that much more useful than it was in the previous game, unless you use it in a magic-based Drive Form. The emphasis is obviously on applying your giant key to the face of the bad guy as quickly and as much as possible.

The worlds in this game...are small. Very small. They're practically tiny compared to those in KH1. They're very linear, and generally just lead you from Point A to Point B. It seems this game was based more around the action than the adventure aspect.

The game is also rather short, clocking in at about 30 hours to finish the main story, though it's far longer if you wish to complete everything. This is a bit of disappointment, truth be known. And unless you play on the "Proud" difficulty setting, it's possible that this game could be entirely too easy, as well.

In all, this game is a worthy sequel to it's predessor. I can't say it completely surpasses the orginal, as it's pros and cons, in my opinion, place it on equal footing with Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is still an excellent game though, and if you own a PS2, you're definitely missing out if you don't pick it up.

Minor nitpicky thing: it's the band UTADA ("It's a song"), not Utada Hikaru.

Also: I think Cloud was a shitty voice actor, too.

And: I used lightning rather frequently in regular battles. It was pretty functionally useful even without drive form. Magnet/Reflect... not so much. Also, if you picked "Magic" as your main thing, the skills to boost it make it a viable choice.

I don't see how in any way it's on equal footing with the first one. Better graphics, better sound(for the most part), an equally strong story, much better gameplay on nearly all fronts(I personally /hated/ the platforming aspects of the original one, and hated the original gummi ship game, but loved the gummi ship game in 2)...

yeah, I really wish there was more to deal with the main story. Axel in particular was just incredibly cool. And it was for the most part pretty linear. The game kind of lollygagged until after Space Paranoids. But I still say this game pretty much surpasses the first very clearly and cleanly.
