Just a random idea I had. Not put too much thought into it.

The creatures don't actually attack. Instead, there's a whole other card type that attacks, but you have to select a creature to trigger it. The card itself has an offensive stat, as well as a requirement. The creature must have the appropriate stat higher than or equal to the cards requirement stat.

Does that make sense?

Drek... that's basically what I said... :P

Reading over what you said before, I now realise...Yeah.

Oh, so that's what you mean by an overpower deck, Alan.
I can see how you'd think that would work...

Maybe. I dunno.

also, I've come 'round to thinking Willpower sounds better than Endurance.

So I leave for a few days to do uni work, and discussion dries up? Where's your imagination, people?!

You want an aspect of the rules to discuss? Okay. How about limitations? What limitations do you think the players have placed on them?

eg: In Yugioh, you can play one monster a turn. Powerful monsters require destroying monsters already on the field to summon.

In Pokemon, you can only play one energy a turn. The more powerful creatures require evolving weaker ones.

And so forth. What about this game?

Well, if theres non-Avatar creatures, perhaps a limit on the creatures, like they must be compatable somehow with the Avatar and one per turn?
ANd maybe use Iye's idea from the end of page 2, and have a blatant ripoff of the mana-land system from Magic using Forum Subsections for Basic Lands, and use the major threads for nonbasic lands?
Using the one land/section per turn, of course.

I'M NOT NEWB!!! GAH! WHY DO YOU PEOPLE LOVE HIM SO MUCH?! WHAT HAS HE GOT THAT I HAVEN'T?! STOP TESTING OUR LOOOOOVE!

...Oh, wait... I forgot to take that costume off, didn't I?

Ok, silliness aside, I think we should blend them. I was thinking...

For Forumite/Avatar/Us teh playurz!!1oen: steal and tweak the "evolution" idea from DBZ and Pokemon. Yeah, that's right, I used those two words in the same sentence. Can I get that "fusion" card in here? But anyway, everyone starts with a base avatar, and over the course of the game, can upgrade to a better avatar. You can only change avatars once per turn, and only if you have the prerequisites for it. Obviously, there will be a branched path for upgrades, since some avatars are not better than others, just... different. I think it would be a good idea to have the default avatar be your first upon coming here. As an optional rule, give players the option to revert back to their origional avatar, to perhaps change places; all at the limitation of being able to change avatars once per turn.

Also, give some forumites *coughmecough* "avatarless" as a starting thingy, which... does something.

Examples of avatar upgrades:

Me from avatarless to JPEG to A) Newb Costume B) Tornado Kirby or C) PNG avatar.

I was gonna post an example for Grandmaster Jogurt, but I don't know enough about that particular branch of avatars.
At first I thought "she", but you people started talking about GJ as a "he", so now I'm confused. I honestly think "she" due to something said earlier that I forgot, but right now I just don't know. It?

Also, I don't think I like the idea of summoning creatures... but then again, it could work, I could warm up to it, and stuff. For this, I recommend having certain posts/threads be the the summoned monsters, because some threads seem to take up a *life* of their own. This has just now given me an idea for a *last ditch* creature/post/thread/thing:

Off topic post: Unaffected by summoning sickness, doesn't directly cost anything to summon (in the way of lands, or something), and (If using Ou's rules for avatar stats) can summon a number on the spot somehow related to "y" (because it doesn't take much time/brainpower to spam a bunch of posts) BUT doing so runs the risk of turning one of the/your/a/someone's threads off-topic, and you can only do this Z times before you start tempting the wrath of the mods, seeing as off-topic posts are pretty common here, but you're probably not going to let some young upstart just start spamming your pages. Also, it could raise X dramatically.

Also, I think perhapse X, and maybe Y, but mostly X, should not be static variables. Because Post Count Level goes up for everyone. Y is dependant on X. you get the idea. But here I've run out of ideas and have just started speculating.

Geez, discussion died down quick again...

Okay, here's something I gotta ask about multiplayer games. By which I mean, more than two players.

When one of the players is defeated, what happens to all his cards?

For instance, let's say there's a triangle duel between myself, MFD and Car.
It's my turn, and I play the artefact "Minefield" which causes damage to any character that attacks. I end my turn.

On MFDs turn he plays "Fair Trade" which allows him to take a card from my hand, and give me any card from his.
Then he plays other cards and ends his turn.

Car goes next, and activates "Brainwash" which allows him to control one of my characters for a turn. He uses it to wipe me out, eliminating me from the game.

What happens next?
Does the effect of Minefield remain? Or is it removed from the game?
And the character that Car took control of? What happens to it?
Then there's the card that belongs to MFD. And the one he took from me. What happens to them?

These are just sample cards, and not actual suggestions, by the way.

Including cards on your opponents side of the field, in their hand and in their decks?

Well if your oponnant gets one of your cards then discards it in Magic, it goes back to your deck. and if it dies, your graveyard.

All your cards would be removed from the game, including the card that he took. The card of yours he gave you would go to his graveyard.

IMO anyway.

Makes sense to me. Let's go with that.

Oh, and also. In any given duel, you cannot attack a player until they have had their first turn. Any complaints with that rule?

A waiting period with which to "charge".

Edit: No objections to the "first turn" rule.

Also, perhaps there could be an alternate rule/setting where a dead player's cards remain, or have the option to remain. I like the Dead=gone rule for a main rule though, but I think people should have access to the alternatives. Agreed upon prior to the game, of course.

Far, far away, where they belong.

What is a burn deck gonna do on the first turn anyway? Ooooh, three damage, whee...

There's a combo involving old, old, OLD green cards, but the card (feedback?) is illegal or restricted or something, almost impossible to get, and I thought that that was third-turn kill anyway...

There's a banned combo in Yugioh. Works something like this.

Gearfried the Iron Knight
1800/1600 level 4
Earth/Warrior
Whenever this card is equipped with any card, destroy it.

Butterfly Dagger-Elma
Equip Spell
When this card is equipped to a monster, and destroyed, return it to your hand.

And pretty much any card that triggers when you play a spell card. Like Royal Magic Library. Which lets you draw a card for every three spells played. You see the combo?

Geez, keeping this discussion going is like pulling teeth...

Okay, I've figured out what the problem is. The focus of other card games is automatically shifted towards the creature cards.
This should not be the case here. The creatures should be a means to an end, not the other way around. You understand.

Sorry for the double post.

What, the "trying to keep a discussion going" thing?

Well, anyway, this train of thought leads me back to the idea that the characters, while they should indeed stay on the field, can't attack by themselves but can defend.

Make sense?
