It all depends on the forum. Right now, we're good where we're at. Back when we were on Buzz and TWC, they were good where they were at. However, what people don't like to acknowledge about the Golden Times (TWC and Buzz) is there were a lot fewer people on, which is why it worked so well. When you have a max of 10 people on, average of two to three, you're only going to need the forum to be a subforum itself (as TWC was). But when you have an average of 10 to 15, and a max of 20 to 25, then you know what? It helps to have it split up a bit.
There used to be an image here telling you to vote, but then Photobucket, the image site made to allow you to do third party hosting, no longer allows third party hosting without throwing a shitload of money at them... and I can barely afford to eat. So no you get some text of me bitching about it, yaaay! Also, go vote.

Car, I's beleive you if I ever saw where these subforums were ever justtified. The RP forum normally has one to two active topics at a time. comic by comic typically one, possably 2 if my crazy theory thread gets bumped. then there is spamsylvania... I never understood the point of spamsylvania in the first place. It seems it was just there to get the PAYT off the main board.

I came to and left many boards before this one. most I was kicked from for being too off topic, so the state of a forum that i actually stay at for a prolonged period is important to me.

If it weren't for splitting being so messy and a pain in the ass, I'd like more smaller topics.

Maybe all new topics should go in thier own sub-forum (a new topic sub-forum), and if they get over thirty pages they get moved to general? It would be easier to ask/talk about a specific thing that way.

It would keep general from getting cluttered, and new topics that were popular would be easily checked. It also seems like less of a pain in the ass to move a topic then it is to split one.

In general though, I prefer mega-topics.... even if people's posts do get "lost" sometimes.

The thing is, I doubt you'd ever see a need for them to be justified. It doesn't matter is the comic updated everyday and people still had the fire of roleplaying in them, you're way too against anything having a place to itself since it seems slight organization means the end of the god damned forum.

The comic section is there so newer people can find it without having to wade through all the shit and fluff that the General Section is. Some people come here just to talk about the comic; this makes it infinitely easier for them to do so. Otherwise they'd have to go into the one single section and try to find any threads dealing with the comics... and I'm almost positive if people had to do that, they'd say 'fuck this' and go elsewhere.

And why the hell is this still being talked about? Nothing's going to happen to the forum anyway, and the topic isn't even 'should we break the shit up in here', it's 'hey, which do you prefer?'

Damn tangents...

They have their place, but sometimes it's nice to actually have a on-topic discussion.

As far as megathread VS minis are concerned, I don't really mind either way.

Although I tend to think that some topics should get their own thread (KH2 vs Gaming megathread, FMA vs Anime megathread, WoW vs MMO megathread), but it's of very little concern, in my mind.

And while I like the idea of some actual organization, (Heaven knows we need it, :P) I dislike how it tends to create "dead" forums.

Serious Discussion and Spamsylvania recieve very little attention in general, and almost NO attention from me, personally. I spend most of my time in the General forum with cursory glances to the Comic Discussion and RP boards when something comes up.

The PAYT used to be an awesome forum game, but now, it's just kinda...meh.

I'm not really a fan of that.

Because you're not actually contributing to the discussion, and just doing a postcount +1 for all intents and purposes.

That was mean.

What I meant was that I enjoy both of them and I find them both vital to discussions.

you don't have to be so mean about it.

Eh, as long as this forum exists, there will be snarky comments, Red.

Don't dwell on it.

What FemmeSimonBelmonts means is Redheero's post had very little to contribute, as she said nothing as to why she prefers both. Almost everyone else has given reasons why they think one is better than the other, and is therefore more than just a 'postcount +1 post'. If RedHeero had said something like 'both, because some subjects need more than just a single thread to have everything covered, while others do not' or something along, then it would not have been viewed in that light.

Majorly baroned, but yeah.

Small topics. I don't want to have to read through all the posts of big ones.

And I dislike having to sift through pages of threads and a massive tangle of subforums to find the topic I want.

I recently joined another forum that has... 3 subforums, 20 'child boards' (what we would call a subforum. Their subforums are the equivalent of our 'General Discussion' and 'The Frozen Wasteland'. Scattered randomly within those 'child boards' there are nine furtherly nested subboards.

This is EXTRAORDINARALY confusing, and I dislike it immensely. It took me upwards of ten minutes to find where I posted to check if anyone had responded to me... some of the mini-boards are clear enough as to what's supposed to be in them, but some sorta overlap depending on the whim of who created them...

And some of the boards are filled with pages of threads that have no responses at all... because it's almost physically impossible to check everywhere unless you're obsessive...
Live and learn - or die and teach by example.
