Alright. Some of you may recall a Final Fantasy thread somewhere around here. I decided that, since it's my dream to get Square to make the game, I should probably wipe the script off the face of the internet. So. Here's a new thread to help me out in. For reference: Characters and Their Unique Properties Each character has a primary class, from which their skill is determined, leaving their Battle Menu looking like so (Cid is used in the example): Attack Tools Items Each character levels up in a unique fashion. Their stats may increase as they earn XP, but their primary skill levels up in the manner listed. -Here is a list of dramatis personae: Endo Michaels. Class: Thief. Skill: Sneak. Steal, Mug, Backstab, etc. Leveling: As Endo uses skills, he learns new skills that build off his old skills. Weapons: Knives/Daggers. Unique Accessory: Jacket. Hair: Brown, shoulder-length. Ponytail. Eyes: Blue. Species: Human. Outfit: Brown leather jacket and blue jeans. Brown belt, with his weapon attached. Black sneakers. Wears a white undershirt. Personality: Snarky and quick witted. Not always the most observant, but his confidence and boastfulness more than makes up for it in his eyes. A ladykiller in his own mind. Fiercely loyal to family and friends. Element: Wind. Limit Break: Endo's limit breaks involve using his weapons to deal wind damage, as well as steal from his opponents. HP: AVG MP: Below AVG PDef: AVG MDef: Low PAtt: AVG MAtt: High Speed: High Cid Michaels. Class: Engineer. Skill: Tools. Chainsaw, Bio Blaster, Orbital Laser, etc. Leveling: As Cid finds gadgets or gizmos, they are added to his list of tools. Cid can also synth together parts to form new tools. Weapons: Clubs/Blunts (including bats, wrenches, maces, etc.). Unique Accessory: Goggles. Hair: Sandy crewcut. Eyes: Blue. Species: Human. Outfit: Blue denim jacket, with a white teeshirt underneath. Wears goggles on top of head. Khaki cargo pants and workboots. Has a utility belt, and carries weapon in hand. Personality: Quiet and modest, quite the opposite of Endo. May occasionally get lost in his own little world, i.e. wondering how the airship works during a group discussion. Will stand by his brother, no matter what. Element: Knowledge. Limit Break: Cid's dog enters battle to perform various actions. HP: High MP: Below AVG PDef: High MDef: AVG PAtt: High MAtt: Below AVG Speed: Low Desmond “Desi” Korvin. Class: Black Mage. Skill: Black Magic. Fire, Thunder, Blizzard, etc. Leveling: Various spell scrolls are hidden throughout the planet. By finding them, Desi adds the scrolls to his spellbook. Weapons: Staves. Unique Accessory: Masks. Hair: Shortish black. Eyes: Black. Species: Elf. Outfit: Navy blue trenchcoat that flares out at the end. It buckles closed at the waist, and the collar is popped up. Brown leather fedora. Fedora is replaced by a mask in combat. Personality: Dark and dour, Desi is out for himself first. He doesn't like to talk about his past, not after reading the Obsidian Texts and his self-imposed exile. Keeps to himself mostly, but recognizes that he needs allies in a pinch, since he has... well, a mage physique. Element: Shadow. Limit Break: Desi casts a more powerful version of a random spell he has for free. HP: Low MP: High PDef: Low MDef: High PAtt: Below AVG MAtt: Above AVG Speed: Above AVG Elanor Harvey. Class: White Mage. Skill: White Magic. Cure, Esuna, Holy, etc. Leveling: Instead of sleeping, Elanor can meditate, should the player choose. While she will not be healed like the other characters, she will learn a new spell if she meditates long enough. Weapons: Hammers. Unique Accessory: Sashes. Hair: Blonde, waist-length. Held out of her face by a sash. Eyes: Green. Species: Human. Outfit: White sweater with a hood, and red triangle trim. Black jeans. Wears one white glove, until she replaces it with a red glove. Leather boots. Weapon is usually strapped to her back. Personality: Raised as an orphan by the White Hand Collective, a group of white mages living in the Wind Shrine. No experience outside the Shrine's walls. Zealous of her faith in the Wind Crystal, despite not being an Acolyte who knows the prophecy and the WHC's true purpose. A bit of a romantic. Element: Light. Limit Break: Elanor cures her party and casts holy on the enemy for free. HP: Below AVG MP: High PDef: Low MDef: High PAtt: Below AVG MAtt: Low Speed: AVG Garuf Chang. Class: Monk. Skill: Blitz. Pummel, Blaze Kick, Aura Bolt, etc. Leveling: Chang may train instead of sleeping. Weapons: Fists (including brass knuckles, claws, katars, etc.). Unique Accessory: Belts. Hair: Longish black. Eyes: Black. Species: Elf. Outfit: Red karate gi with green trim. feet wrapped in bandages to keep them protected, and to keep him lightweight and agile. Black belt. Personality: Having lived in the Monastery of Enki for most of his life, Chang is the chosen Warrior of Earth. He has been training for the final confrontation with the dread Chaos since as long as he can remember, and as such is a very serious person, if a bit naïve at times. His mentality is thrown for a loop when he meets his fellow Light Warriors. Element: Earth. Limit break: Chang performs powerful earth-based attacks. HP: High MP: Below AVG PDef: High MDef: Low PAtt: High MAtt: AVG Speed: Above AVG Salissa “Lissa” Tycoon. Class: Gunner. Skill: Shot. Cripple Shot, Sharpshoot, Explosive Shot, etc. Leveling: There are shooting ranges in most towns. Lissa can improve herself there, or in battle. Weapon: Pistols. Unique Accessory: Neckwear. Hair: Red. Eyes: Green. Species: Human. Outfit: Green pirate coat covering a white one-piece swimsuit or unitard. Wears leather boots that come midway up her calves. Typically wears a green bandana, but is known to like large hats for festive occasions. Personality: As a young girl, Lissa was quite the accomplished thief. In later years, she managed to build her own criminal empire as a pirate, operating mostly out of the Hydra. A lovely lady in a man's world, Lissa is opposed to showing feminine weakness. When Endo lands back in her life and she is left shipless and powerless, she nevertheless doesn't let that get her down. Element: Water. Limit Break: Lissa deals powerful ice attacks. HP: AVG MP: AVG PDef: Above AVG MDef: AVG PAtt: High MAtt: AVG Speed: Above AVG Bella Underwood. Class: Knight. Skill: Sword Tech. Parry, Counterattack, Cover, etc. Leveling: The more practice Bella gets in, through battle, the more special moves she learns. Weapon: Swords. Unique Accessory: Shields. Hair: Black. Eyes: Blue. Species: Human. Outfit: Dangerous-looking red and gray suit of armor. Personality: Orphaned at a young age, Bella has traveled the world mastering melee combat to avenge her parents’ deaths. She is determined, and anything she does has that one goal in mind. She stalks the streets of Port Tuuli as the Crimson Knight, interrogating gang members, and working her way up to Tuuli City’s Family and its Don, who personally killed her beloved parents. After being found by Cid, she grudgingly joins as the Warrior of Fire, believing the Lost King to be behind the Don’s decisions. Element: Fire. Limit Break: Bella's blade light on fire for a powerful fire attack. HP: High MP: Below AVG PDef: High MDef: Below AVG PAtt: High MAtt: Below AVG Speed: Low Sergiott “Giott” Taika. Class: Caller. Skill: Summon. Ramuh, Alexander, Bahamut, etc. Leveling: By finding the proper instrument and the proper music, Giott can summon new espers. Once they have been summoned a first time, they can be summoned by any instrument. Weapon: Axes. Unique Accessory: Instruments. Hair: Bright orange-ish red, shoulder-length mane. Braided beard. Eyes: Yellow. Species: Dwarf. Outfit: Red and green tartan on his kilt. Wears a white chain armored shirt. Bespectacled and a bit bookish, at least for a dwarf. Carries his summoning instrument on his back, and his weapon on his belt. Personality: At a young age, the elder son of the Dwarf King entered the Summoner's Circle. Not very well-liked among the dwarvishfolken (they think he's too much of a dwarfess), Giott thrives on knowledge and news of the outside world, where his IQ might be more appreciated. Wise beyond his years, Giott sometimes forgets to mention rather trivial details that end up being not so... trivial... Element: Magic. Limit Break: Giott summons Grandpa, a powerful Dwarven Warrior who devastates the enemy with fierce physical attacks. HP: Above AVG MP: Below AVG PDef: High MDef: AVG PAtt: Low MAtt: High. Speed: Low - Here is how limit breaks work. I'm thinking it'll be sort of like trances in FFIX. 'Cept we'll tweak the system. Alot. First, once your guage fills up, you don't automatically trance up. Your ATB and Trance Guage both need to fill, or if it's turn-based, it needs to be your turn. This prevents, say, Endo from Trancing, only to waste it as Desi deals the final blow. Secondly, your abilities don't change; your characters merely receive boosts in all their stats until the trance guage empties again. Finally, when the guage empties, your limit break occurs. Each character has a special action that occurs exactly when your guage empties. They will learn new actions as they either level up or pass a certain plot point (for instance, Endo will not have wind attacks until he is confirmed as the Warrior of Wind). -Job Equipment Each character also can equip up to 7 pieces of equipment, like so (Cid’s equipment): HELM: R. Plumed Hat (+10 MDEF, Red Magic skill) ARMOR: Plate Mail (+5 PDEF) WEAPON: Spiked Mace (+7 PATT) BOOTS: Dragoon Boots (+7 SPED, Dragoon skill) GLOVES: Iron Gauntlets (+2 PDEF) ACCESSORY: Fire Ring (+5 MDEF, absorbs fire-elemental attacks) GOGGLES: Thermal G. (Negates accuracy penalties) Notice that the Boots and the Helm Cid has equipped adds skills as well as stat increases. They are called Job Equipment. As a result, his battle menu now reads: Attack Tools Dragoon Red Magic Items Job equipment levels up as the characters earn AP. As the Job Equipment levels up, it will level up both stats and skills. This is so Job Equipment received at the beginning of the game is still a valid choice for end-game equipment. Here is a list of all the Job Equipment: 1. [HELM] Red Plumed Hat: Red Mage (Skill: Red Magic- low-leveled white and black magic.) 2. [HELM] Blue Mask: Blue Mage (Skill: Blue Magic- enemy skills.) 3. [HELM] Scarf of Gogo: Mime (Skill: Mime- Repeats the last attack by either enemy or ally. Useful for setting up chain attacks.) 4. [BOOTS] Dragoon Boots: Dragoon (Skill: Dragon Art- Begins with Jump, but adds Dragon Magic from Freya in FFIX as the boots are leveled.) 5. [HELM] Black Helm: Dark Knight (Skill: Dark Art- Begins with Drain, and learns low-leveled Dark Magic, as well as Dark Wave.) 6. [WEAPON] Excalibur: Paladin (Skill: White Art- Learns the three cure spells, then Holy.) 7. [WEAPON] Masamune: Ninja (Skill: Ninja Art- Begin with Gil Toss, learn Flood, Smoke, Flare, and Blitz) 8. [WEAPON] Whip: Tamer (Skill: Tame- Can cause creature-type enemies, but not human-type enemies, to attack their teammates, and can summon a creature depending on level) 9. [BOOTS] Tap Shoes: Dancer (Skill: Dance- Various Dances have various effects) 10. [HELM] Lion's Skin: Berserker (Skill: Berserk- Uses Attack every turn, doubling Attack power for the duration) 11. [HELM] Pointed Hat: Time Mage (Skill: Time Magic- Haste, Slow, Stop, etc.) 12. [WEAPON]Bell of Light: Geomancer (Skill: Geo-Attack (attack using the element related to the landscape of the battle) 13. [WEAPON] Sword of the Magi: Mystic Knight (Skill: Sword Magic- imbues sword with elemental power for the duration of the battle) 14. [WEAPON] Crossbow: Hunter (Skill: Trick Arrow- can cause status effects, or group attacks) 15. [HELM] Thinking Cap: Chemist (Skill: Mix- Mixes items to make more powerful items, i.e. potions to hi-potions, phoenix downs to phoenix pinions, etc.) 16. [GLOVES] Golden Claw: Morpher (Skill: Morph- Can morph into a creature with unique attacks) |

Alright. An updated class list. The main classes don't have full skill sets yet, but I'm pretty happy with the secondary classes. FFXII kinda downed my thrill of writing a story, but I think I can do something now. Class Skills Primary Classes- Each character has a class with skills unique to that individual. These classes learn new skills in different ways. Thief (Endo)- Learns new skills by using old skills. Battle Menu Command- Sneak Steal (steals from opponent) Backstab (attacks from rear for extra damage, but leaves self open for extra damage) Witty Repartee (raises foe’s attack, but lowers foe’s accuracy) Mug (steals from opponent, and also offers a weak attack) One-liner (raises party’s defense) Throw (throw a weapon) Limit Break- Fury of the Wind (attacks all enemies multiple times) Smug Response (raises party’s speed and attack for a period of time) Engineer (Cid)- Find tools to use them. Battle Menu Command- Tools Goggles (scans foe for weaknesses and current HP/MP, also dispels any buffs on foe) Bio Blaster (poison damage to all foes) Tommy Gun (attacks all foes) Chainsaw (attacks all foes in front row) Flamethrower (fire damage to all foes, or raises one ally’s attack by tempering their weapon) Taser (lightning damage to all foes in front row) Orbital Laser (attacks all foes) Limit Break- Angela Strike (Angela tackles one foe, preventing the foe from attacking) Angela Fetch (Angela brings a needed item (Phoenix Pinion if someone is KO’d, potion if someone is low on HP, Ether if low on MP, etc.) Black Mage (Desi)- Find tomes to access new spells Battle Menu Command- Black Magic Tome of the Elements, Part I (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder) Part II (Fira, Blizzara, Thundara) Part III (Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga) Tome of Ailments, Part I (Bio, Confuse) Part II (Berserk, Stone) Unnamable Tome (Meteo) Tome of Death (Flare) Limit Break- Dark Secrets (translates a random spell from the Obsidian Tome to use for one battle) Elven Knowledge (raises party’s magic attack) White Mage (Elanor)- By leveling up, Elanor’s MP rises, granting her access to more spells. Battle Menu Command- White Magic Cure (3), Cura (8), Curaga (15), Curaja (30) Stona (5), Panacea [cure poison] (10), Esuna [cures all status ailments] (18) Aero (10), Aera (15), Aeraga (20) Nulblaze [defense against fire] (20), Nulblitz [defense against lightning] (20), Nulchill [defense against ice] (20), Nullall [defense against magic] (40) Holy (40) Limit Break- Fury of the Red Hand (Attacks all foes) Grace of the White Hand (Party regenerates HP for the rest of battle) Monk (Chang)- Rest often enough so Chang will meditate and learn new skills. Well... For one, I think your Limits are rather...bland. Most are nothing that's never been seen before, and Desi's in particular are just plain laughable. |

Player interactivity is a sorely lacking feature of most RPGs. Perhaps add some Mario+Luigi Superstar Saga/Partners in Time-like functionality? |

Timed button presses, perhaps Sabin/Zell-esque button combos, slots, mini-games, anything that separates them from bog standard attacks. |

Righto... I can think about those later. Now, I know I already was planning on a four person party (with a return to the traditional TBS). But I was thinking of adding a fifth "guest" slot to be occasionally filled. My idea was that you could control the guest in battle, but you couldn't equip them (since you'd probably end up stealing their gear for yourself). Would that be interesting or would you prefer FFIII's "I'm randomly going to either attack you or cast a spell!" tactic, or FFXII's "I'm on this team, but I'm doing my own thing!" tactic? These guests would be dual-classed, using any of the classes listed above. One example, maybe the first guest you get: Lukahn Class: Prophet (Sage/Time Mage) Skill: Magic (Haste, Slow, Stop, Meteo, Shell) Weapon: Lightning Staff Hair: White. Eyes: Gray. Species: Human. Outfit: White trenchcoat covering a blue sweater and khakis, with a pointed cap. Personality: Lukahn's a bit out of it, but he knows that he must tell the party where the Crystals are, since he's the only one who knows anything about Crystal locations. |
