So, sprites because that's how Alex thinks the Video Game world should be? |

he should be more worried because he thinks Video Land, or some higher power there, is out to get him. The only thing going in his favor is the fact that he see's himself as the main character, and main character's either get a happily ever after ending (including getting a hot girl), or do a heroic sacrifice that get them immortalized. |

So its about his expectations and preconceptions, not conscious decisions... Someone sufficiently skilled at psychological manipulation could really turn that against him... which is what I think the Sovereign is all about! |

Yeah, it's like he externalizes and then experiences whatever he expects to happen. And at least up to this point it's been done unconsciouslly. What I wonder is if Video Land is entirely based on who he was when he entered or is it constantly changing with his experience in Video Land. Interesting though. Whoo I feel like we're really getting somewhere now.

Man, Ryan seems really upset by that idea. Like he's realized that if Videoland isn't working how he thinks it should work, than maybe he's actually not the Game Master, and that bothers him. |

Look on the bright side. It could be the cat's ideas deciding what should work. What exactly is the distinction between the cat, Alex, and Ryan anyway? All three are (probably) from the real world, but Videoland treats them differently. Is it all because Alex is the Gamemaster? But Ryan "shares his powers," according to him. Guess we'll just have to see if it's revealed before the world ends in 2012. |

The world will not end in 2012. Society, most likely, but not the world. As for the comic, both Alex and Ryan, in my opinion, are game masters, but from different realms of perception. The Sovereign is, also in my opinion, an amalgm of all the dark energy of humans, since the portal between Earth and Videoland never fully closed. That's my theroy and I'm stickin' to it. |

Finally! An explanation for why his thumb got sore. At least I hope it is. Also it amuses me greatly that the world that literally revolves around Alex's sense of how things should work takes every opportunity to humiliate him and crush his hopes. Could this mean that the Great Change happen when Game Masters die? If the reality of Videogame Land restructures itself to match the views and personality of each new game master it'd make sense that there would be massive upheavals. Alternatively significant shift in how a Game Master thinks might do the same thing. Didn't the Great Change happen just after Captain NES when nuts and killed Motherbrain? PS: Neither the world nor society will end in 2012. It already ended on Y2K. |

To be fair, I'm personally of the opinion that the crazy Captin N was actually Kevin's evil twin from the Mirrorworld. With this Anti-Gamemaster in charge of Videoland, and Kevin stripped of his title, things started going downhill. ...but slowly. Gradually over time. The effect was not instantanious, becouse Nega Kevin's subconcious was basicly the same as the real Kevin's. It was simply the active portions of their minds that were different. (IIRC, the Great Change happened AFTER the SoS did her thing.) Of course, if that were true, that would make Hope Keene part Human (Mother's side), part Videolander (Ditto), and part Mirrorworld Human (dear old Dad). I'd hate to see what HER Mirrorworld double would be like. ...but back on topic. The way I see it, Videoland requires a Gamemaster to give it form, and to tell it how to function. Also, chances are that the groundwork laid down by previous Gamemasters will continue to have an effect even after someone else has taken up the title. (This MAY be why Videoland has a free will of a sort of it's own, and is trying to bend Alex over a rail so often.) In the case of two Gamemasters, which appears to be the case with Alex and Ryan, Videoland will most likely try to split the difference. Creaters help them all if those two are as diametrically opposed as Ryan seems to think they are.

I just realized... Ryan can hear silent protagonists like Crono because he never played the games and doesn't expect them to be silent... |

Because seeing the flashback at all involves having gamemaster powers. And because he expects to be able to hear the characters in question. |

Basically, Alex is the jaded gamer. He's been there, done that, and knows what to expect, including the silent protagonist. Ryan, being near the other end of the scale, and therefore having a different perception, expects them to talk, especially if he started around Megaman IV, when the writers started giving Rock text in the intros, indicating that, yes, he can speak, just not during gameplay, or from Megaman's perspective, work. |
