Yep. Yandere cosmic horror. And here I am without a good Sakura joke for the situation.

I'm beginning to think that the criteria for "touched by the Sovereign" is "affected by the actions of Real World Alex." For instance, Alex had Cecil kill off Spoony a bunch of times...
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die. <- This form appears through the Old man glitch if y is the character in the third, fifth, or seventh slot of the player's chosen name.

But from what we've seen, with this one the only way Alex affected her was by being there to play the game...
I think the more significant effects of Alex's presence divergent from the canon is a product of the Sovereign, not the other way around.

I thought that the significant effects of Alex's presence divergent from the canon was merely the result of him being the Game Master. (i.e. He is Game Master, therefore his actions are Canon.)

Of course, that raises the question, again, of why he is the Game Master.

But in the commentary of that comic, Alex says that the important question was "What is Videoland?"

Wait... I see what you're saying, Zap. Nexus could be the subconscious ordering of a hub world as Alex imagines it, but even then it functions under its own laws and its own realities mostly separate from the Real World. (Fox News Expies and Robo-Ronnie notwithstanding.) The touched, however, have shown varying degrees of fourth wall awareness. Especially with regard to Alex's actions in their world. Old Spoony being an excellent example.

So now is a good time to consider what the link between Alex and the Sovereign is. And it seems like some answers may be forthcoming.
It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

Pardon me if this has been answered already...

Well two things first.

I love old videogames. I hold the SNES, and Sega systems both in my heart.

But considering all I know about the comic so far...

...why is Rocket Knight, one of the best games of the Sega world, in the world of Captain SNES O_O?

I would note that Lupin III has shown up in comic, and while he was on a number of consoles, none of them was SNES. Videoland may not be as limited as you're assuming.

There were Lupin games released for the Japanese equivalents of the NES and SNES though.

Monkey Island.

Reconcile that.

Easy. Alex played his games on a SNES emulator. On a PC. He probably also had SCUMMVM and SCUMM engine games on the same PC, the Monkey Island games included.

Wait, that's not easy, that's long and convoluted.

Seeing the way the comic has been heading, that just makes it all the more likely.

um, never really played Terranigma, but I'm fairly sure in Illusion of Gaia, the hero has a definite backstory and a definite name. Though to be honest I never played Soulblazer either.

In Illusion of Time Gaia? Yeah, he does. And when I heard that it was just the second game in a trilogy, I suddenly felt the very slight urge to play the other games... which I've ignored for years and will probably finally get around to once I finish Mother 3.

Well he pretty much said something like he went to a family member's house to play with consoles pretty much saying he did not have an emulator
... If you don't know it will be hard... But if you know it will be boring.

As a kid he did not have an emulator.
Hey, the comic seems to be updating kind of regularly. Maybe we should vote to spread the word.
