As usual, interesting cell banter. Also: JayDee, you tease us. I was interested in Mario and Magus, and had almost presumed Kain & Cat and Cecil & Spoony were off the table until someone else acted on them. ... Which could be the case, granted, but not a transition I expected.EDIT: Or something else. Rosa's Hold spell wearing off sooner than expected, Spoony or Cecil coming up with something, just simple character development and/or exposition, etc. |

Well, Rydia could somehow be contacting Spoony. Or the death of the massively touched EoD could affect the massively touched Spoony. Those are my guesses! |

I am pretty sure that this comic exists solely to taunt us. Alex is hedging so badly I want to plant him in front of my house. |

It makes sense going to Cecil and Spoony given that Spoony might be trying to delay the inevitable (or Cecil) |

I'm interested in this for the vital plot point of... why the chicken crossed the road. Or whatever it was that caused Spoony to go into shock in that comic. Actually, there's something in Cecil's hand in that panel isn't there? |

What's most interesting about this comic is what it has to say about Videolandas a whole- more evidence for the "there is a mind to it beyond the Sovereign" thing hinted at by the universes' hatred for "I am Invincible" declarations, and a hint that the Sovereign isn't actually godlike at all, merely really good at manipulating and playing into the habits of the actual overmind or collection of overmind-like tendencies the universe possesses... She isn't a Dungeon master, merely a character that has come to understand dice and the DM's habits. |

Well, that's been kind of the point. The touched are aware (in a very unhealthy way) of what they are and that their world isn't truly real. |

Well, yeah, but up until now, the impression was given that the Sovereign was a part of Videoland's mind, that the Sovereign was, or at least was in control of, fate itself, or at least videoland causality. This reveals that she isn't a Goddess of Fate, she's no different just like those she Touches, only stronger and infectious. Touching someone doesn't bestow someone with a fragment of Her tainted essence and power, as was implied, it infects them with her forbidden knowledge of how reality actually works, which must enable, among other things, unlocking of one's own potential power- explaining why the Touched only manifest logical extensions of their known abilities and manipulations of the game mechanics. Apart from anything else, this means that she very well might simply be a known character with a very high Omega infection- probably the Princess/Hope Keene. |

Englong, you are so brilliant. Also, this stuff concerning the Sovereign, Videoland, and the Touched is just blowing my mind. But, uh, I do seem to recall various characters in nexus knowing that they are video game characters. I mean, they all seemed to know of platform sprites and their multiple life deal, and poor Marle was hated simply for being an RPG sprite. |

Luke- Cecil is holding the Drab Lord's hood. As for the nature of the Sovereign, the DM analogy is apt.
We know Alex was speaking metaphorically, so perhaps this is a clarification. The Sovereign isn't Fate. But the way she games the person who can crudely manipulate fate makes her more powerful than the fate manipulator. The bolded word is my emphasis. Alex seems to imply there that fate in Videoland isn't simply a matter of dramatic conventions and aesthetic, he says there is a person manipulating it. I suspect the Queen of Videoland. Lana wouldn't have displayed this power in the cartoon because she was still a princess. |

That would also answer the Nostalgia Critic's question of why she never changed her title in the show. Being Queen as opposed to Princess isn't just a legal position, its a supernatural position, one she hadn't yet manifested. |

That the Sorrow-Touched are aware of their situation in an unhealthy way is very important. Recall that nobody contested this part of Kwirk's preachings. Whether believing in the Creators or taking more of an atheistic standpoint, a video game character can exist using a lot of the same terminology we use without any real issues. Sure, there can be some philosophizing or theorizing about the true state of being, but I maintain that there's a very big difference between wondering if someone made you as a plaything to be discarded when bored, and being certain beyond a shadow of a doubt as the Touched are. EDIT EDIT: See Spoony's reaction. EDIT: Re: The Queen - Ooh, I like that idea. I like that idea a lot. EDIT EDIT EDIT: Dear jegus... Anyway, Spoony has a line that might be relevant to the discussion of the Queen: "No one in Videoland could affect the real world, except possibly members of the R-" Royal Family, I imagine, much as it might be something else. |
