It's been forever, why is Spoony having trouble killing Cecil? |

The FFVI combat mechanics mean that a level nothing bard can't do damage to a level 99, heavily armored paladin. He just doesn't have the attack power to even land a 1 hp hit. But he can't run away or Cecil's paralysis (which Rosa cast on him) will fade instantly, and he can't just wait or it will wear off. Either way, he's going to be face to face with a pissed off paladin very soon. Very soon indeed if the lack of waviness in his lines is any indication. I just hope Cecil doesn't let him pull a last minute "conversion" to avoid execution. Being a paladin doesn't mean you have to believe it when an enemy says he's not your enemy. Cecil is smarter than that. |

*Sigh* Freed from the darkness of ignorance, only to be blinded "Again" by the light of illusion and lies. Edward, you poor bastard.

So what are the chances Spoony can tap into FFV Bard songs like Lucca tapped into Phoenix? A simple Alluring Air would ruin Cecil's day. |

It's possibly that Edward might be able to tap into some new touched powers, but he doesn't seem that far gone yet. Just kinda mostly pathetic. I still expect him to try and open the chest. ... I wonder if it's a PACKAGE. |

I really hope that Edward can be snapped out of this. I mean, sure he's been driven crazy by being Touched, but I liked him in FFIV so I'd be sad to see him go. ![]() I guess the key element is whether or not Videoland actually is just a collection of video games, or if it's something else that has grown to be based off video games, due to the Gamemaster influencing the world. |

Given FF4 has a sequel (wherein basically nothing that happens in this comic, post-FF4 proper, takes place) I think we can safely say that Alex and the author have a heavy influence. ![]() (Okay, so the comic gets Luca's unrequited crush on Palom right. More dumb luck than anything else. And Palom isn't freaked out by Luca in TAY - just simply not interested.) |

Not a lot interests TAY Palom, actually. He changes a lot in that decade. And yeah, "based off a game" sounds about right. I think we have Myst situation going on here: the "stories" described a world that already existed. |

I think it is interesting that Spoony argues how inconsequential sprites are to Cecil (they are merely pawns in a chess game) while expressing derision when Cecil attempts to use Anna's death to placate him. Spoony would like to assert that the entire world around him is worthless, but using someone worth everything to him to prove it. It's contradictory, even if human. It seems that if everyone and everything were vain - merely shells and shadows as the Touched seem to say - they wouldn't have the sorrow of losing those who meant everything to them. It's interesting how the reality of death and the ache of losing someone will make that someone deny reality and pontificate that nothing is worth anything. I am bored.

Poor, poor pathetic Edward. Unless that chest has something absolutely incredible in it, he's gonna die when Cecil is released from his paralysis. Though since Cecil only said "ending", he might not kill Edward. No, instead, he could tap him on top of the head and knock him out (Edward has, what, 5o HP maybe?) and then the battle would be over, Rosa'd be healed by an item Cecil carries on him, they talk, then they basically do with Edward whats been done with Kainazzo. That Water Fiend was always the most ANNOYING of the Four. Hated it. Though Rubicante was no pushover either. |

I actually got the idea from the ending of FFIV for that. I suspect TAY writers got it from there too. |

Actually, I'd consider the "The After Years" similar to "Chrono Cross". Back during the Super Magus Bros stuff, the sovereign tells Magus essentially about the events of Chrono Cross... but they'll never happen. I posit that Videoland isn't a congruous universe of all videogames... the Videoland in the comics is simply composed of the SNES games. ...not to mention the story takes place years before they even started production on "The After Years". |

Either way, the world of FFIV has diverged wildly from what the game would dictate of them. I wonder if Spoony thinks that all of what's going on now is in the game's script. |

To be precise, she says that once that was the future... but then something happened to change that future. I'd posit that whatever that "something" was, it was the same event that made the Sovereign what she is in the first place. Whatever it was, it clearly affected all game worlds, not just the time-travel prone Chronodia. |

There was a Sparkster game on SNES. Wasn't Rocket Knight Adventures but its own game. |
