Huh; a mystery to them both. I must admit, I wonder what would have happened if Alex had met him. (And yes, I remember the comic where Bob turned into a Chocobo; you know what I mean.)

At any rate, good comic JayDee. Doesn't quite reach the level of orphan jokes, but that's okay.
There used to be an image here telling you to vote, but then Photobucket, the image site made to allow you to do third party hosting, no longer allows third party hosting without throwing a shitload of money at them... and I can barely afford to eat. So no you get some text of me bitching about it, yaaay! Also, go vote.

It looks like Swoon can be healed by something I can only assume Edward has access to.

I assumed that the word "creepy" was a reference to Lif, and not a third method of getting Rosa back on her feet.

Aye, that made the most sense to me, too.

I don't doubt this is leading somewhere, but I'm still curious about where. Maybe the imp will describe some significant item that was in his chest. Presuming it wasn't empty.

Still, the fact that he has some items on him, albeit not the status cures we'd guessed, is interesting. Also interesting is that it restored 45 HP. The FF VI Tonic always restores 50.

Also, Edward might have only 45 HP

Ah, good points. It's possible Kappa only did 45 HP of damage, as well.
Since I looked it up, fun fact: Spoony apparently has an initial 60 HP. It's doubtful he has too much more than that, given Alex's treatment of him in FF IV. He probably never got a single experience point outside of that one plot fight.

"That creepy" what?

What thing restores from KO that's creepy?

Oh god, Kappa. Poor Spoony, nobody deserves that kind of treatment.

Gonna go with this.

Was "Tonic" the name for "Cure1" in the Japanese games? Even if not, we could have "functional equivalence" at work. (i.e. unless there is an outside factor, the "conditions" of the current setting take precedence.)

In any event, I'm thinking that we now know what was originally in the chest as well. (99 Cure1s.) Going by an average of 48 HP per Cure1, (average, reference the comic,) Kappa will have had to expended about 26 Cure1s, plus an additional one (that we've seen) for Edward. Which means that we still have about 70 Cure1s at... whomever's disposal...

Too bad Edward can only carry one at a time.

Still don't know how Kappa got into that chest in the first place. Especially when it was all full-up with minor items...
It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

Tonic was the potion item in the SNES translation of FF6 if I remember right.

I imagine Porom stuffed him in there thinking they had to hide the corpse of the innocent imp that Palom killed.

Then again, looking at the comic in question, Porom approved of Palom's Bio attack.

I doubt it. In Final Fantasy games, you can be healed for more HP than you're missing. Obviously you won't get all those HP, but the full extent of the healing will still display.

Look back at 651. Porom heals Palom for 356 (his max is 342) and herself for 362 (her max is 350).

The FF4 healing item randomness is probably to blame.

Ahhhh... that would be my post. I actually only just now noticed it was gone.

What I said was that you take on the properties of the world you're in, in this comic, unless you have an item (say, Lucca's belt) that cancels that out. In Final Fantasy IV, healing items are a little bit random - enough so that it would be perfectly reasonable for an item that normally heals 50 HP (in FF6, where items are NOT random) to instead heal 45.

My guess is that having tonics is simply part of the tutorial nature of the character (for a demonstration), although I suppose the chest could've had tonics in it (I'm not sure why he'd bother saving such a useless item tho').

Palom and/or Porom stuffing the swooned imp into an empty treasure chest makes enough sense that I'll assume that's the right answer; either that or he crawled in there to get away from the crazy children.

So... All that remains is how Bob's tutorial summoned Kappa to FFIV.

Maybe Bob has one of those portable reality bubbles. He was in Alex's party when Alex tried doing something new so his game's rules activated and summoned a tutorial.

I like Kappa. Or maybe I just like characters that ramble on and on for no good reason.

You know what, I just realized that Kappa is acting EXACTLY like a BING commercial. QUICK! Someone parody this!
