"Speaking of being terrible at games, Red fumbling with the blocks in Magnet Man's level has to be seen to be believed. If the definition of insanity has to do with expecting different results upon trying the same thing, then he must be one of the most insane people I've ever known." - Brickroad The Guardian Legend - By Red Silvers (VLP): Our Red Silvers continues to find the weirdest worksafe pictures of the game's protagonist, a plane that transforms into a waifu. Super Metroid - By Red Silvers (VLP): I think it's safe to say at this point, that Samus ain't leaving her suit once Red Silvers finally gets around the finishing this game. Fantastic Dizzy - By Red Silvers (VLP): Fresh off his recent run of Super Metroid, Red Silvers tackles yet another, err... classic? (Egg-scuse me for being confused about Red Silvers' next choice.) | |

Today's comic was so interesting, I had to come out of anti-socialness to comment on it. This comic is the best thing I will see today or tomorrow. *disappears for a few more years* |

So, what I want to know is... If this is the most surreal yet, does that mean that there are even more surreal comics coming up in the not-too-distant future? Will the secret of Luigi and Flea's acid trip one day be revealed? For the sake of the world, I hope not. Now that I think of it, Alex is telling this story as his way of avoiding speaking about Mario... Could this be related? I think not! Thinking has gotten me into enough trouble today already. |

The real question is, does he need to blow on his thumb regularly to maintain the new appearance, or has he simply been forgetting to blow on it for upwards of a decade now? |

With King Hippo, I'm fairly sure it's the second one. This, I think may also be the first time that Videoland has completely and directly contradicted what Alex thought it should be. |

Thought #1: How did King Hippo know to blow on his thumb? Was there a meeting about this, or is this just knowledge that all sprites inherently have? Thought #2: King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard seemed quite a bit behind the times to me at least ever since they first entered the comic. Does not blowing on your thumb and going 16-bit keep you a bit behind? If so, might that explain part of what happened to Captain N? Thought #3: I really need to find a way to use "Space Yarr!!!!" in a sentence today! |

JD often uses conventions in the comics that reflect what he remembers about old cartoons that might be confusing to some of us younger than him (Captain N in general, I guess). Anyway, often in cartoons a cartoon character would blow on his or her thumb to pop back to normal after being flattened, or even to blow themselves up so they could float somewhere. I'm not sure how that applies here, except that the NES sprites look flat, and the SNES sprites often appear to have more depth. If King Hippo was flattened, perhaps he reverted to his 8 bit form. If King Hippo and Eggplant Wizzard were flattened by a steamroller, perhaps that was enough to force them back into the NES era. Of course, being flattened has never had that effect on anyone in Videoland before, so who knows (when Alex was flattened by Gato)? |

There's just no way that the great change, for everybody, involves blowing on their thumbs to turn 16-bit. I think it's more likely that King Hippo just runs on cartoon rules, being so divorced from his video game appearance. And something tells me that he's not exactly a reliable narrator. But uh I don't even. Maybe that's just how it works? We probably have several comics worth of King Hippo's story to look forward to, so maybe it'll be explained. |

I find it ironic that Alex thinks that King Hippo's exaggerating about how annoying the Eggplant Wizard was. In pretty much all the behind-the-scenes side-stories (and maybe his narration in the story's current timeline, I forget), his obnoxiousness is about the only thing he could say about him. |
