Seriously, that Mother Brain sprite is awesome. Who did that?

Also, did they call her "Mama Brain" in the cartoon?

Sam: Norm you look down, what's wrong?
Norm: New boss chewed me out. Said I "Lack enthusiasm".
Cliff: Well, is that true?
Norm: I, uh I dunno. Maybe. Who cares?

I'm wondering...young girl maybe? It could be the key to Captain N's defeat.

Also...CAPTAIN HOOK! FUCK YEAH!

Uh... shouldn't Hippo's Crown be outside of the goldfish bowl helmet?
It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

MB017-PT (Mother Brain, ProtoType) was a version of the Mother Brain. I am sure this is all over the game and incarnations, but I only found it used specifically in fan-fiction via googling:

Aww, baby pictures of before she got mutated into a giant brain!
Hey, the comic seems to be updating kind of regularly. Maybe we should vote to spread the word.

It could have something to do with the young girl that represented Mother Brain's good side in the episode of Captain N where they went into her head.

I wonder if the actual, sinister Mother Brain will ever appear in Captain SNES or be plot relevant.

It isn't like Alex never played Super Metroid.

just reread some relevant comics, MB017-PT IS Mother Brain, according to Mega Man when talking to that idiot Dr. Wright.. So, maybe those were Mother Brain's blueprints? Held some sort of super secret awesome weapon? Maybe even blueprints for the form she had in Super Metroid? This has to be what pushed ol' Kevin over the edge. He was probably teetering on it for dealing with her and her idiotic schemes for who knows how long? It'd put anyone over the edge. Alex would have snapped after the fifth scheme. Or halfway through the first.

That's... a good theory. Nice catch!

You know, not to be a quibbler or anything, but isn't Mother Brain a bit too colorful to be 8-bit? I thought 8-bit sprites could only be four colors? I guess King Hippo'd be off too, then, and in the end, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Potentially awesome development, though. It seems somehow impossible that these events don't somehow lead to the creation/awakening of the Sovereign, although knowing the way this comic works, it'll probably get interrupted right before the good bits by Alex getting broken out of prison.

Mother Brain was voiced by Levi Stubbs.

I doubt anything is too colorful for her.

Check out an NES Mega Man sprite (a real one, I mean, not green dude). He's got five colors on him, six if you count transparent (which you do, because that's how it works).

You're absolutely right about 8-bit sprites having a low color limit, mind you. I bring Mega Man up as an example of how that doesn't necessarily translate into a color limit on characters, thanks to clever programmers. What we think of as Mega Man's sprite is actually two sprites using different color palettes, one for his face (black, white, peach, and transparent) and one for his body (black, blue, cyan, and transparent). That's one trick NES programmers used sometimes.

In Mother Brain's case, she's stationary and very large. As such, while she's a "sprite" in Videoland parlance and for sprite comic purposes, in technical terms she's probably more accurately described as a background, which would give her a bit more freedom in her palette.

I made it and yes, Eggy and Hippo both tended to call her that quite a bit.

Megaman is actually 2 sprites overlayed. That's why he can break the limit.

That's what I said. I just used way too many words to do it.

Nah, you used just enough. I taught myself to read with Nintendo Power, you'd think that after 20 years I would know this kind of trivia myself.

Thanks for the correction, in any case.
