For srz...

... Also, that's interesting... When the girl says she knows her mommy loves her, she's tinted in green. It stands for hope, of course, but I wonder if it's metaphorical, or metaphysical...

It could also have a literal meaning.

Aw, poor Celes. She's had a rough enough life as it is.

Also, there are quite a few "Kekfa"s on that middle panel.

Hmm...something Kefka says is interesting to me. In the last panel, he mentions a "shade of apocalypse." Why would he say "shade" unless he's referring to the purple? Is the girl giving off so much Sorrow as for it to be visible?

Also, methinks Celes is the only one with a Touched voice right now because she was closest. The others are probably going purple in short order.

Celes is also highlighted by the wave. No one else is.

Oh hey. Runic. That's the explanation.

Don't know if anyone noticed this. But it would appear as if that tear is the Shard of Tears.

Well, that rather solidifies the combatants of the War of Fire and Ice.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die. <- This form appears through the Old man glitch if y is the character in the third, fifth, or seventh slot of the player's chosen name.

It also shows something else. Two somethings, in fact.

The girl isn't carrying the Shard of Tears. She is the Shard of Tears. As in, she was created by it. Otherwise, why would it appear as one of her tears?

And second, the girl knew her mother was dead, but was blocking it. You don't have that kind of reaction to uncertainty. How she reacted at the beginning was how someone reacts to uncertainty, and Kefka was smart enough to recognize that.

I'm inclined to agree; at least on some level, the girl might have known her mother was already dead. However, it could also be that she'd never even thought her mother might be dead. Even if they understand what death means and that it happens to everyone, kids might not think, "That means Mom and Dad, too," and react pretty badly if the possibility is jumped on them like this.
But that's partly playing Devil's Advocate: most kids as young as the girl (seems to be) might react more with, "... What's 'dead' mean?"

Also, the new panel makes me feel more confident in my 'the girl is a mass of sorrow energy in sprite form, that the Shard of Tears cast around itself' conception. There are plenty of other explanations, too, but hey.

She reacted much too fast and much too negatively for this to be likely. There wasn't even a hint of denial or confusion. She knew exactly what Kefka was referring to and what it meant. Most children who know what death is will react very badly to the idea of it affecting someone close to them, but it would be closer to the way she reacted to Kefka's assertion that her mommy didn't love her.

This equals her being Kid!Rydia, with the memories of at least up to her meeting with Cecil; potentially including those of up to her capture by Leviathan. EDIT: I wonder if that means that she has a battle form based on Kid's template.

It also means that the Shard could (and did) create Physical bodies capable of transferring it. A power the mask does not have.

EDIT: Yet, as the Dwarven Rings in LotR needed Gold to breed Gold, so to does it seem that the Shard "needs sorrow to breed sorrow," and thus couldn't create such a body spontaneously. The only question is as to how the Shard saw the opportunity that Rydia presented. Actually, there is 1 other question, which shall be saved for the Crazy Theory Thread.

It also seems like my BootToTheHead to Kefka was appropriate for the wrong reasons. As would my comparisons between him and the Eater of Dreams

P.S. JD: Your comment reminds me of the end of Act 2 Which is too long to quote directly...
It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

Yeah, that one little bitty insignificant panel might make a tiny difference. Maybe. Quite possibly. :P

Also, the fact that the girl is Sorrow given form is simply more evidence that it is Rydia's child self. Or rather, it is the child's memories that form the body of Sorrow.

HeroicJay's thought process: What's so unusual about that, he's being condescending to a small chiOOOOOOOHHHHH. "Kekfy".

And along the same note, Sabin calls him "Kekfa" in the same panel.

EDIT: And I didn't see the post earlier in the thread than the quoted one about "Kekfa" either. >_>
