Hello and welcome to Carver Chat. This board is created for all of us who love The White Shadow tv series. This board will serve as a meeting place for us fans share ideas and comments on what most of us consider one of the greatest television shows ever made.

I got the urge to create this board because there really is no board where we can go and discuss the show. Sure, there's little threads here and there on tv sites, but nothing TWS specific that we fans can call our own...until now! The master plan is to have this board be the center piece of the most inclusive website for White Shadow fans. It's gonna take some time and hardware updates on my part, but I'm up to the challenge. I've got lots of great ideas for a site and would be interested in hearing from some fans' ideas as well.

Feel free to create a profile and start posting. Hopefully in time we'll have a larger community of fans to interact with. If you have any questions or comments, this is the forum for them, or you can private message me directly. - TWS Fan

Enjoy!

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for setting this up! I look forward to discussing this show with everybody.

Was curious as to what ideas you've got so far. Also, anybody know when Season 3 is being released on DVD?

:welcome: Shadow Buddy & thanks for signing up. The funny thing is that I was too young to watch the show growing up. I was born in December of '79. I first came to see the show years back on ESPN classic and it instantly became my favorite show. It's just timeless.

I was born in 74, my older sisters used to watch the show which probably made me about 5 when I first started watching.. I still remember that Monday night when the show did not come on. I have seen White Shadow on various channels over the years, such TV Land and ESPN Classic. Jim Rome usually try to host a White Shadow Reunion Show. Even though I was young, the show still remained my favorite show over the years.

Hey Shadow Buddy...I think you and I were in the same boat. I was born in '74, and my older sister introduced me to this show too. I think she watched more for Salami and New York though. I too know the horror of hearing the show wouldn't be on the air anymore. Thank God for syndication. It showed up on a local affiliate a few years later. I had just about all episodes on tape, but they're really dying out. That's why the Season 3 DVD is so crucial.

Thanks very much for creating this board.

When originally aired, the show coincided with my first three years of high school (1978 to 1981) and my only three years of organized basketball.

I watched the show almost every week for the first two seasons and it was a frequent topic of discussion at school, particularly during my grade nine year.

I lost interest in the show in year three with the new cast of characters and seemingly new direction. What was interesting was that was also my own final year of organized basketball. I did a lot of sitting on the bench that season as the team I was on was a very good one and eventually won a local championship.

Although everything usually got resolved, for better or for worse, in less than one hour, The White Shadow nonetheless taught some useful lessons.

I've enjoyed reading the comments on this board. It is rewarding to see that some of the strongest actors on the show have gone on to long and great careers in show business.

25 years later I still enjoy playing basketball from time to time (I enjoy it more than any other sport, particularly when there is no coach to sit me on the bench) and am looking forward to revisiting some old history and watching the first two seasons of The White Shadow on DVD.

I found this site quite by accident and I'm happy I did...I was 9 years old when the show first came on the air and it still remains one of my all time favorites and its one of the rare shows that actually stand the test of time because the subject matter is something that affects everybody no matter where you live or the color of your skin and it also deals with issues that are relevant even today almost 30 years after the first episode aired. the only thing outdated about the show is the cars and the styles of the times..other than that, its still as relevant as it was then.

I'm glad I found this board and I look forward to chatting with everyone.

This show actually encompassed my middle school period and high school freshman year (1978-1981).

Gee, I cannot believe so much time has elasped between the show's debut and now. WOW!!! Almost 30 years!!! Where has all the time gone?!

I have rather fond memories of the series. At first, I was the only one in my family who followed TWS. But then, slowly but surely, the rest of my siblings came around and followed the show with me!!!!

It remains a favorite of mine to this day.
It is one of the few TV shows I have actively followed and collected on DVD.

Looking back on TWS now, I relaize that Bruce Paltrow, Ken Howard and Co. were on to something. Nowdays, TWS is considered something of a precursor to such shows as The Sopranos, etc., in terms of how the story is handled and linearly maintained.

In that sense, watching these DVD's over 25 years later, coupled with all we know about such aforementioned TV series now, these TWS episodes seem to play out like mini-movies as opposed to an hour-long conventional TV drama.

Great site! :D Thanks for setting it up!!! :dribble: :tv:

Welcome to the board Sybil and some great points. I definitly agree, it really is hard to believe that this show is almost 30 years old, its amazing but the show really has stood the test of time.

I just wanted to say thank you for setting up this website and to also say hello to all other fellow White Shadow fans. This was indeed a great show on so many levels. I was in elementary school when the show was in it's first run. As a kid who ate, drank and slept sports, this show became a favorite of mine. It has so many great memories of childhood.

As an adult, I gained an even greater appreciation for the realism this show portrayed. Hard to believe the show is nearly 30 years old, and yet the subject matter is every bit as relevant today as it was in the 70's. The White Shadow was ahead of its time.

Today, I teach High School Physical Education and coach varsity baseball- in large part because of the influence this show had on me. It's also great that the YES network runs The White Shadow periodically on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. for those that aren't aware.

I'm real happy to be a part of the board!
