This is an an easy question, Battaglia was the worst character on the show. Why was he neeeded? They already had a 5'10" italian guy on the team in Salami, what was the purpose of another one?

Really? I liked Jerry Fogel's character. He was kinda of a square with a hint of elitism, but I enjoyed his character. I liked Bill a lot better than Katie. She was came off as a wet blanket liberal to me.

Well, I kinda felt like his character tried to hard to fit in...with the buying the stuff for Haywards brother and always acting like he agreed with the coach when he really didn't understand. It's not that I didn't like him. But, more so, I just didn't care for his character as well as The Sister. Would have been better served as him venting with an old teammate or Jim Willis. JMHO :dribble: ;)

In seasons 1-2, there were no characters I really disliked. However, I do agree with an earlier post that Gomez was the worst actor of the group. Even in the shows which centered on his character, the acting was weak. Goldstein was definitely annoying at times, but Ken Michelman actually had to do a good job of acting to make his character of the naive dork believable.

I don't know why but I found the coach's girlfriend in the last episodes of season 2 annoying--the teacher who wanted him to go to Greece. Maybe it was her overanalyzing every thing or that bad overbite--don't know but I usually fast forward through her scenes.

I think this question has come up also on the www.imdb.com message board as well... and Goldstein is ususally in the top 1. But tht thing is, his character was very real. There's always a Goldstein in real life, most definitely in high school. Whether it's at school, on a job or in Church, you're going to have somebody in a group with poor social skills in relating to other people.

Someone on this thread did mention Paddy Falahey and their least favorite episode, where a girl tried to trick him into a marriage commitment by believing he got her pregnant when he didn't. I never understood why they did this; it was the same thing with Reese and his girlfriend.

I never liked Lee, the sound effects guy who drove the English teacher Ms. Stanley and everyone crazy. He really was a nut job!

Falahey by far; he was one of the few guys who seemed to overdo it in his role as team "tough guy". It almost didn't seem like he would be a guy who would have an interest in playing basketball all that much, yet he's on the team (and unlike Goldstein, his "overdoing" it didn't actually help the role much). While Season 3 seems to be unfairly reviled as a whole, I usually think they're on target when they mention Falahey and the episode where they recycle the "pregnant girlfriend" angle.

Vitaglia would have been my choice, but in Season 3, he actually mellowed out all of that "I miss New York" business and became a better character, a funny partner in crime to the ever-likable Salami.

As for the rest of the Season 3 guys... Franklin is cool, even if he is no Milton Reese. Rutherford would have been a great guy if he got more screen time, Wardell was a total goofball... and like Goldstein, his overacting actually helped enhance his "Goofball" qualities, and I don't even know what to say about Mitchell. Did he ever do much except play and say a few lines here and there? I guess he was supposed to fill Gomez's role, but he didn't have much of Gomez's flair.
