Was watching Coach Carter, which was produced by Thomas Carter(Hayward). I noticed alot of scenes and plot come from White Shadow. The first one how the old coach approached Coach Carter to coach the team, is much like the principal approached Coach Reeves. Just post any thing you seen in White Shadow that was similar IN Coach Carter. |

Coach Carter physcially threw a player (Cruz) out of a try out/practice who was disrespecting him (somewhat similar to what Reeves did with Hayward in the locker room in the pilot episode). |

Kenyon's girlfreind being pregnant which was impacting his college career, much like Reese's girlfreind claiming she was pregnant and was affecting his college career. |

When Thorpe and Co went to Vegas and sneaked out the hotel to go to the casinos, there was a similar scene in Coach Carter when the team sneaked out of the hotel to go to the party. |

I'll have to go back and watch Coach Carter again. One big difference however, Carter locked the kids out for low grades etc. Reeves was always on the boarder of being the ringleader of a "Grade Fixing" conspiracy at Carver.
Kinda like the racism topic. Reeves, like many people, beleived that basketball was the best chance for these kids to get out of the Hood despite the odds of most of them doing so. In 'Artist" the art teacher almost had to beat Reeves ass to get him to take an honest look at reality. By the same token, too often people (white and black) push college as the way out but, if a kid is unprepared for the demands of college classes and the freedoms of being on their own, what have they gained by being in college other than playing a game? You can lead a kid to college but you cant make 'em think! I always say I met some of the dumbest people I know in college. |

Coach Carter and the principal had the same type of relationship that Coach Reeves and the Assistant Principal have. The old coach in Coach Carter served as the peacekeeper like the principal in White Shadow. |

I haven't seen coach Carter but now I have to. Looks like there are a lot of tie ins to "The White Shadow." I'm sure Tomas Carter during the planning of the movie dipped into the TWS well and that's great. To me, that's proof that the show even though pushing 30 years still stands up today. I'm actually looking forward to watching it now. Now the question is, does "Swing Kids" have any tie ins to TWS??

From one of the Commentaries from the DVDs, it was stated that Thomas Carter(Hayward) pretty much used White Shadow as a guideline while making Coach Carter. You will be amazed on the scenes or storylines that came from White Shadow.

The playoff game in Coach Carterwas similar to the tournament game in bonus baby. Cool dominated the game in Bonus baby and Junior dominated the game in Coach Carter. Both were the centers. |

Just watch Coach Carter again, amazing how the movie was made from the show. I guess the Lyle and Salami ' character was supposed to similar. The white guys on the team. I guess the Cruz and Gomez's character was supposed to similar, the hispancics guys on the team.

The basketball in Coach Carter is more "pretty" than the mixed bag shown in "The White Shadow". But it is similarly unrealistic in the movie as shooting percentages in game action must be in the eighties. |

Eugene Lee who played Bobby in "One of the Boys" and "Little Orphan Abner" was a team parent in Coach Carter. |
