Watching Reunion - Part I on Hulu and just thinking to myself how ridiculous it is that is that Reeves jumps into the pool with his hat on to save the drowning girl in to begin the show. Not only that but the hat never comes off even while the coach is swimming under water. I guess the rug just must not have cooperated LOL. |

In the original broadcast on CBS, didn't "Reunion, Part I" end after Jake Reeves said "Because I'm dying!" and we saw Reeves' look of disbelief. In the syndicated cuts, it ends after Reeves consults with Jake's doctor. |

How did the Carver team fare in season 3? Winning season? Losing season? I know at one point they were 6-6 and we saw them win at least one game, the one where Cool scored 30 and declared himself a giant among men. We also saw them lose to Keeler after that dope Falahey bailed on them and Cool was hurt. Only other footage that season against an actual high school opponent that wasn't recycled from another season was during "No Blood, No Foul" and we never found out the actual result of that game, other that Salami's TKO of Greg Alder. There was the game against the PAL Cougars, but that was an exhibition. Was the season actually over by then, since that was the last episode to feature Carver in action? Apparently not, because they held practice in "Burnout." Rutherford was played by a former college basketball star, why didn't we see more of him in actual game footage? He had skills that Reese or Jackson could never hope to match. Finally, what about this "Alumni game"? Who else other than Hayward, Reese, or Goldstein participated? Baker? Mays? Bobby Magum? Jeff Simpson? Edited by Lucius Robinson, Aug 19 2008, 02:58 PM.

Well Lucius, I guess we will never know. We can only speculate. If they were 7-7 at worst by the alumni game I would like to think they slide into the last spot and defended their title. Maybe got hot at the right time and made some post season noise. But, I just can't imagine that team going all the way! And for the Alumni game: I always thought The "old guys" would have consisted of Hayward and Gomez at the gaurds, Reese and Goldstein at the Forwards, and Have Salami and Coolidge on their team in the first half and have Nicky and Thorpe play with them in the second half! Something like that.............

As I recall in "No Blood, No Foul" the next day at practice Stone says something like, "What 'cha think about our boy Salami, coach?" To which Reeves responds, "In case you can't read numbers, Stone, we lost." I always thought that too about the Alumni game (with there only being 4 to come back). Good thoughts on the others, although, I have to wonder...I know who Baker is....does anyone know which one is actually Mays? What about Brostrom? Speaking of those extras, and I can't guarantee this, but rewatch Rocky IV when you get the chance. When Stallone is about to leave the house for Russia, check out the cab/limo driver...I'm pretty sure this is Mays...or Brostrom...or one of those guys who sat on the bench. As for the talent of the season 3 squad...it's almost silly to compare...adding Rutherford and Franklin made them far more talented (with the exception of the off guard still shooting like a wrestler) than anybody else put out there. |

REALLY!!! You think it is silly to compare? As a team on a whole? Lets have Hayward, Jackson, Reese, Gomez, and Goldstein go up against Rutherford, Franklin, Falahey, Stone, and Mitchell. I'd put my money on James Hollywood Hayward and the gritty hard nose veterans that had more time together as a team. I didn't see any cross town hustles (Reese) for Rutherford? Goldstein or Jackson could D up Franklin any day of the week! Did you see some of those guys they went up against in them pick-up games? Gomez was probably one of the best 6th men in HS his last year. Couldn't be that bad if the coach was calling on him to take the last shot in a big game! Falahey, Stone, and Mitchell brought down the Second string depth chart way down!! You gotta have a deep bench to go all the way!! With a back court of Thorpe and Mitchell you go 6-7 With a back court of Thorpe and Hollywood you win the state championship!!! |

I was thinking more along the lines of A: A starting lineup B: The actors themselves...not necessarily the way the show went or how television might make it appear to be. That's why it's funny to think one could be a city champion and another is 6-6. A: Compare a starting line up of: 1. Thorpe, Hayward, Reese, Jackson, and Coolidge VS. 2. Thorpe, Salami, Rutherford, Franklin, and Coolidge I can't see one 1 beating 2. As far as the actors themselves...It's pretty clear by watching that Kevin Hooks had some playing experience. Byron Stewart obviously played (in fact they say he played college ball and had a knee injury during the "Globetrotters" commentary..anybody know where?) Wolfe Perry played at Stanford and was in the NBA draft. I don't think you'll argue that Van Patten wasn't much of a baller. I'll give you that, but at the same time, even though TV might suggest otherwise Eric Kilpatrick and Nathan Cook do not appear nearly as talented or athletic as Art Holliday (definitely better actors though:) On the overall the season 3 cast appears more athletic and fundamentally talented than the first two seasons regardless of storyline. That's what I meant. |

Okay, no problems! But, you did refer to them as their character names! So, the assumption was valid! I really wouldn't care who was better in real life! The White Shadow is a Television show. One of the greatest as that!!!!! Peace

In "The Death of Me Yet", when the team questions Reeves about leaving...why would Gomez, Hayward, Reese, or Goldstein care? They were graduating.... |

I know the original air dates were week to week. But, something tells me that alot of the episodes were filmed somewhat apart from each other and it could be that at the time this episode was being done the writers and producers weren't sure what characters where going and which would return! |

Here's one. Was the episode "Me?" (the infamous Cooldige/Thorpe "VD" episode) supposed to air before it actually did? On the DVD set, there's an episode featuring Vitaglia that airs before that one (verified by airdate), yet Salami lobbies for Reeves to get Vitaglia on the team in "Me?" ...networks are funny about that sort of thing, and the subject matter of this particular episode might have put them a little on edge or something. |
