Swampert![]() Type: Water/Ground HP: 100 - ATTACK: 110 - DEFENSE: 90 - SP. ATK: 85 - SP. DEF: 90 - SPEED: 60 Tier: OU (Overused) Trait(s); Torrent: When this pokemon has below 1/3 HP, it's water attacks become 1.5x stronger. Moveset 1 ~ Hydro Pump/Surf ~ Earthquake ~ Ice Beam/Rock Slide ~ Roar/Rest/Protect/Toxic/Hidden Power Bug @ Leftovers Mixpert. Probably the most common set. The STABed Earthquake is nice. Ice Beam is usually used over Rock Slide for Salamence and the like... Roar for some phazing, or Rest for recovery. Protect for Lefties abuse, to check for HP grass, and to figure out a safe switch. Final slot is your choice. Moveset 2 ~ Earthquake ~ Rock Slide ~ Hidden Power Bug ~ Focus Punch/Hydro Pump @ Choice Band CBpert. STAB'd CB'd Earthquake is nice(er). Rock Slide for flyers, obviously... HP Bug for Celebi mostly, and Focus Punch when you predect a switch. Hydro Pump so you're not walled by Weezing. This set isn't seen as often as others, but it's worth a mention. Moveset 3 ~ Curse ~ Ice Beam/Rock Slide ~ Earthquake ~ Rest @ Leftovers Cursepert. Not really a Curselax clone, because Lax has the potential to be a special sponge too... Swampert is kind of more generally defensive. Have to mention the STAB'd Earthquake again... Ice Beam or Rock Slide for fliers. Rest when you're low on HP after getting some Cursing in. Moveset 4 ~ Earthquake ~ Ice Beam ~ Sleep Talk ~ Rest @ Leftovers ...Stalkpert...? I don't know if this deserves a full set in my analysis, but here it is. This is a set with more staying power. STAB'd Earthquake again... Ice Beam for Salamence, among others. Moveset 5 ~ Earthquake ~ Ice Beam ~ Protect ~ Counter @ Leftovers Nicpert... Ice Beam for Salamence, EQ to do damage, Protect for Levtovers recovery and to check if the opponent is going to use a physical attack I guess, and if you can take the hit well, Counter it. Moveset 6 ~ Earthquake ~ Muddy Water ~ Hidden Power Bug ~ Counter @ Leftovers Apparently 0mastar's set. Muddy Water can kind of psuedo-haze... HP Bug mainly for Celebi, Counter is a nice surprise for your opponent... EVs: Set 1 is really variable. Generally a good amount of Attack, some Special Attack, HP or defenses... So many different spreads can work for this and it's really up to you... Cursepert should probably have max Sp. Defense. Careful nature can give it over 300 in the stat. The rest can go into Attack and HP. CBpert can have max Attack, decent amount of HP, and some Defense, with Adamant (thx Kirby). Set 4 should have lots of HP, if not max, some Defense or maybe some SDef, and perhaps a bit of Sp Atk to help the non-STAB'd Ice Beam... Other Options: Hmm... I covered a lot, but Counter and Mirror Coat can work. Hydro Pump over Surf in some cases, Muddy Water is frowned upon, but it works I guess. Swampert can make 101 HP Substitutes, so Subpunching is an option too. You could do a Special moveset with Earthquake for Special sponges I guess, but I won't cover that here. Counters: Celebi (even with Ice Beam), Ludicolo, any Grass type basically, Hidden Power Grass is used just for Swampert on many pokes, so watch out for it. Opinion: For what it's worth, Swampert is probably the best starter pokemon, (in-game, not first in battle.) I like how it is so customizable to fit your team, which makes it unpredictable, for example, the fourth slot on Mixpert. I also think having only one weakness is cool, though it comes at the price of being a 4x weakness. Grass isn't exactly the most used type, but you still have the HP users to watch out for. Anyway, Swampert is a fun pokemon to use and fits in to most teams. |
