Hello and thank you for your interest in playing The Chronicles of Vaniya. This is a campaign that will start at level 1 and progress all the way to Epic-level of 21+. It features action, adventure, conquest and discovery of your character's inner-self. It is to be played weekly for a minimum of 3 hours. It is my fondest hope as DM to display a story that will be memorable for years to come! If you don't have an understanding of the world of Vaniya, please read about it here before applying. Before you start, I have a few guidelines and some questions I'd like answered from all applicants to play. Guidelines: * The server will be up roughly one hour before actual game time. This will let players get situated, grab some food or drinks and prepare to immerse themselves in the world of Vaniya. When the game time actually is at hand, every player must be present and ready to play. This means tokens must be updated to the appropriate level and all equipment gained from previous campaigns already in place. * Players are expected to know the difference between player and character knowledge. * Players must have a working understanding of how D&D 4E is to be played. * Players are not to purposefully go against the story set before them. This does not mean that freedom is restricted, or that the story is entirely linear. It just means that if it makes sense to go on in a certain direction, you should go in that way. As long as those guidelines do not appear to be more than you can handle, I think you'll be fine. Now I have a few questions for you as a player: - Why do you want to play the characters you do? - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? -What is your experience with Maptools? -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? -What do you expect from me, as a DM? -Why do you want to play in this game? You're almost there! Now that I have an idea of who you are as a player, I'll need to know about your character. Character Information (Name/Race/Class): Brief character background: Character alignment: If accepted into the game, I will require that you send me a .dnd4e (D&D Character Builder file) of your level 1 character, an image of your character and your character's in-game token. - Why do you want to play the characters you do? I was wondering recently what life is like for people that can't tell anyone apart after reading something short about it. So this is what came from it. A self-centered, indifferent man-child that isn't the best at expressing a wide variety of emotions(understatement) since he can't tell one person from the next, or seem to recall anyone's name. A lack of sustained interaction with others - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? Conversation definitely. Though if I'm the one who got myself into this situation I'd wager it would deteriorate into violence pretty quickly. -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? DnD 4e since it's release. -What is your experience with Maptools? From version b53 and up. We've come a long way. -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? Deviant Null, Rumble, VeggieSama -What do you expect from me, as a DM? An engaging story. A lack of meaningless extras. Quick and dirty combats. An engaging story. -Why do you want to play in this game?
Character Information (Name/Race/Class): El / Sorcerer / Human Brief character background: El was born and raised in Pugh as Elyinad Strahn Yuhl as part of a wealthy family of merchants. His parent's were pleased when they learned their eldest had inborn magic but it was cut short after realizing the drawback. El would often follow and obey complete strangers assuming they were his parents or teachers. After a particularly bad incident they discovered the nature of the illness, El is unable to differentiate between two completely different people whatsoever. Even with obvious signs like voice, height and manners it was a guessing game for El every time. After quietly giving up on their firstborn they had another two sons, whose names El could never recall, to succeed the family business as El was prohibited from leaving the grounds and began to spend his days sleeping or lounging around the grounds causing trouble for others inadvertently. When his fathers business prospects took a turn for the worse and they were close to being stricken with poverty, El was to be married off. Unassuming, when they spoke with El about this all he could answer was "...uh-huh." When the tell-a-tale day came and El was introduced as the 'bride' to another man after taking a few seconds to register what was about to happen, he burnt his way through several walls, rooms, guard posts and guards and by the time he had realized he wasn't incredibly bothered by the situation anymore he had no idea where he was and wasn't in any hurry to find his way back. - Why do you want to play the characters you do? - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? I've been on D&D for about 4 moths already, this only locally and with the tools we can get in Mexico,(which by the way are few on D&D, i mean we can't even get fisical dice), we have learned 4e on the road, stumbling and making big mistakes. Regarding rpgs in general, im sad to say 4E is my only one, rpgs are not that popular in mexico, maybe because only a few places here have stores to sell them. -What is your experience with Maptools? Being honest, none. A friend of mine in Canada was supposed to teach me but haven't heard from him in a while. I've experimented myself and seem to know how to use a token and it's macros, however im at a loss regarding how to program my own (i practiced with prefabed ones). -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? If this means regular 4E rules, i'm pretty familiar, if it means frameworks, sort off decent. -What do you expect from me, as a DM? *A good story, entertaining encounters *That you make the campaing 1 hour earlier(kind of a joke but not really a joke) *Patience since im new at maptools. *Comprehensive(I'll return to college on the 9th of august, so it might affect my gametime) *An overall nice dude, i know that as a DM i once lsot my cool and threw a basilisk at my adventurers...they somehow killed it. -Why do you want to play in this game? I want to experience a good online D&D campaign, the concept seems to my understanding our growing society pushing out the mystical creatures out, so i think its an intersting plot, eighter humans are evil or good, it depends on what we learn from them on the campaign. As i mentioned on maptools. Race: Genasi. Classs: Wizard. Name: (Currently fiddling with it) Background: when he was really young, his village was destroyed by the development of human civilization, he was raised in a secluded area and just learned about what happened, he wants to show what he is capable of and learn what really happened to his people. He would be a: general good, with a posible dislike but not hate to some humans.(raised by humans). His goal would be to show people the mistake theyve done by cornering some species with their excesive growth. Contatct: xjd127x@gmail.com Edited by xjd127x, Jul 14 2010, 10:32 AM.

- Why do you want to play the characters you do? I enjoy the challenge to filling the role of the character, making decisions and saying things because that's what the character believes, not what I do. - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? This is almost entirely character dependent. -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? Been playing 4e on and off since it was released. Ran several campaigns (Keep on the Shadowfell, and one homebrew campaign) but prefer the player side of things. Was also a player in a fairly steady game until schedule changes forced me out. -What is your experience with Maptools? I've used maptools to run both my campaigns and to play in a regularly scheduled game. -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? For my homebrew campaign, and the campaign I played in as a player, I used the Deviant Null framework, which worked out very well. -What do you expect from me, as a DM? To be fair, to provide a challenge, and allow for interesting actions or ideas but no coddling the player. -Why do you want to play in this game? My friend and I have been looking for a D&D game to get into for some time and this came along. You're almost there! Now that I have an idea of who you are as a player, I'll need to know about your character. Character Information (Name/Race/Class): Pollander Varson (called Poll, short o sound) Human Rogue Brief character background: Poll grew up in Cerrilon, son of a general goods merchant and expected to follow in his father's footsteps. As Poll soon discovered, his father did more than just sell general goods, he also fenced for a number of thieves in the area. Poll took to this business easily and without qualm, but he was also more interested in providing the stolen goods rather than selling them. He picked up what knowledge he could from his father's suppliers and over the past two years, has been plying a new trade. Poll is extremely pragmatic, and prefers to solve problems non-violently (less culpability and less questions later), but he will defend himself if necessary. Poll is a meticulous planner, and likes to be prepared for any situation. Unfortunately, this also makes him something of a pack rat. Character alignment: Unaligned |

- Why do you want to play the characters you do? Well this would be my second 4.0 character that I've made. I think I have a better feel for this one in terms of character creation. In terms of mentally playing this character, I want a change to bring out a serious/sarcastic character. - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? Well, I would think that my character would be prepared for any situation. If your main question is if my character will run into any situation hacking and slashing, then no. My main duty is to defend the party and support them in the best actions to achieve our goals and if that means talking to a Balor then why not. Makes things interesting. But at the first sign of trouble my character would be at the frontline to defend his allies. -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? I've been playing D&D now for 8 months and I like it much. I have been a various roleplaying games for about 10 years. -What is your experience with Maptools? I've been in Maptool games before and they are great. I've done about 3 games. I work on a Mac so a few stuff runs differently for me. -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? Frameworks? I'm going to assume these are the codings that make 'At-Will' and Attacks and Dailys more visable, clear, etc. If not then I don't know but I'm willing to get familiar. What's life without learning. Actually am going to research it right now. -What do you expect from me, as a DM? I expect a great story! A great adventure that is 60% story and 40% action that draws and pull every member of the party. Once everyone feels like apart of the story, our actions means something and everyone is having fun... or the majority of us is. -Why do you want to play in this game? They say a good defense is a great offense, so I want to be a Striker. Character Information (Name/Race/Class): Chainer Hellfire/Human/ Hybrid Fighter/Swordmage Brief character background: Born in Iosia, off the east coast of Coreal, Chainer Hellfire was raised by his parents. He is an only child. His mother stays at home and his father was a low ranking official of the Coreal military. Chainer has much potential but shows little of it. At the adult age he enrolled into the Coreal Military and tend to hid his various talent in the masses. Character alignment:Chaotic Neutral |

Okay, guys! I've read what you guys have posted up. Here's the results: Fortune: Application accepted. Please read what to do next in "The Process" within this forum subgroup. xjd127x: Application temporarily denied. You missed two questions in your application, which is a big deal. We also have a controller (invoker) playing already, so this may not be the best choice. Make some revisions to your application, but for now I'm going to reject it. Stossel: Application accepted. Please read what to do next in "The Process" within this forum subgroup. Nevilytis: Application denied. I remember you from the "Everywhere There Be Dragons" Sunday group. (Hi! It's me, Thirty-Seven!) You showed up to one game, didn't do a whole lot and then failed to show up the next week. I heard that even afterwards there was some arguments with the DM. I don't want to deal with one-post-wonders. So as it stands we have: Invoker (Controller) Sorcerer (Striker-Ranged) Rogue (Striker-Melee) Whew, lots of magic in this low-magic campaign, heheh. We can hammer it out, though. |

Application to join Chronicles of Vaniya A little about me in general. I am 32 years old and live in Miami FL. I have been playing 4e for about 4 months now. I have recently joined RPtools forum and began to try playing online, which has been very enjoyable. I have a long history of Multiplayer online gaming and love the fantasy role playing genre. I am seeking a stable group to join who intends to carry on the campaign regularly. The proposed game time is excellent for me. I enjoy both roleplaying and combat mechanics. - Why do you want to play the characters you do? I wanted to play the character I do (Grimauld, Revenant Warlock) because I very much enjoy the concept of playing a character with an arcane background, especially in the setting of a world where magic as a dominant force is on the decline. I envision my character as a once brash and overconfident adventurer who was too lured by fame, fortune, and power. As a result of this, he was tempted by a power which he knew on some level would consume him, but he arrogantly believed he could control it. Over time, his ego and lust for power resulted in his enslavement to that power and his eventual death. Before dying, he implored to his deity (I am not yet sure how the deities of Vaniya compare to those of core rules, but I envisioned the Raven Queen) for another chance. He was returned again as a revenant, looking nothing like his original form in life (he was a Githzerai, but returned appearing human). The longer he lives in his new life, the less he can recall who he was, except in dreams. He seeks to find meaning and to utilize his rather accursed gifts for some more productive aim than what he once did. - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? I would always explore the diplomatic option first, for it is more interesting story wise. If it devolves into violence, then I would deal with it as such, but there are so many more options inherent in negotiation, manipulation, and discussion -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? Dnd for about 4 months. Computer based RPGs since 1998. -What is your experience with Maptools? Over the last month have learned maptools relatively well and participated in some LFR game on there. -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? Mostly Forgotten Realms material, both in my prior campaign and in the LFR setting. Edit: I just realized I misread this question. I'm not sure if you mean frameworks in terms of maptools. If do, I am familiar with DeviantNull -What do you expect from me, as a DM? Commitment to carry on the game (hopefully) as you suggested, from heroic to epic. Creative storytelling (which I imagine from what I have read so far is easy for you). Lastly perhaps a desire to foster a setting in which a relatively new player to the dnd world can continue to learn and enjoy it. -Why do you want to play in this game? I like the basic background to the setting I have seen so far, I am encouraged by the effort that you put into recruiting for this game that the quality and nature of the campaign will be fun and engaging. You're almost there! Now that I have an idea of who you are as a player, I'll need to know about your character. Character Information (Name/Race/Class): Grimauld, Revenant Warlock (Infernal Pact) Brief character background: (as written above) I envision my character as a once brash and overconfident adventurer who was too lured by fame, fortune, and power. I have a slightly longer backstory in mind with some more detail, which I will gladly PM you if it looks like I would fit your group. Character alignment:Unaligned Thanks! Umm... not a one hit wonder kBrad. I can actually show you the conversation that me and the DM had, which is on my skype.
So, after seeing the actual conversation which clearly shows an actual 'argument' with the DM and me leaving the disappearing from the game for no reason, I hope that this simply allows you to atleast have a one-on-one with me before you reject not only my character but me as well. |

Now I have a few questions for you as a player: - Why do you want to play the characters you do? Although I've played D&D for over 25 years most of that has been as a DM and only recently have I gotten a chance to be a player. I've played several character's that I truly liked(Wizard, Assassin and Rogue) and a couple I absolutely found no enjoyment playing(Cleric, Fighter). I would eventually like to play several more types(probably in other groups). Currently I'm playing Avengers. I've played a Dwarf Avenger in several games and very much enjoyed the experience. I think I would like to change up a little and play a Human Avenger. - In a situation where violence and conversation would solve a situation equally well which would you chose? It really depends on the situation. I would prefer violence in a case where the antagonist was a creature of evil inclination. A good Goblin is a dead Goblin. However; when the antagonist is non evil conversation would be preferred. -How long have you been playing DnD (any other RPG)? I started playing 1st edition D&D in highschool almost 30 years ago. I've played 2nd ed. AD&D and now 4E. I've not played any RPG outside of D&D. I've played other games such as WWII tactical combat games. -What is your experience with Maptools? I've been using maptools since Feb 2010. I'm completely familiar with it and have embraced the macro language. I'm currently working on my own framework. -What is your experience with 4e frameworks? I've played both DevNull and Veggie extensively and had a brief brush with Rumbles. -What do you expect from me, as a DM? I expect you to unfold a story of richness and vibrancy and provide us players with an opportunity to become immersed in the story. I expect you to bring our combined story to life. -Why do you want to play in this game? I'm looking to join a group of like minded individual that are here for the duration. I've played in groups that fall apart in short order, that have people that are missing every other week, DM's that decide to take a break with no warning. I want to play in a group[ that I can count on to be there week after week. I understand real life occasionally intrudes and allowances have to be made. You're almost there! Now that I have an idea of who you are as a player, I'll need to know about your character. Character Information (Name/Race/Class): Rikard Haakon / Human / Avenger Brief character background: Rikard was born in a frontier village full of rough adventurous families. They had to be, living on the edge of civilized lands as they did. When Rikard was still a young boy a very large hobgoblin raiding force swept through the villiage killing and looting. Rikard's mother just had time to stash him in the root cellar moments before the hobgoblins were upon her. Rikard's mother, father and siblings were all slain or taken into captivity along with the rest of the villiage. A wandering priest from martial religeous sect wandered through the villiage shortly thereafter and and took Rikard in. Rikard grew up in the order of militant clergy. He was raised with the ideals of law and order, to protect the innocent and defend the weak. Rikard has recently set out to see more of the world. Character alignment: Lawful Good |
