I've been looking for a very small square oak table with just two chairs and an oak framed mirror for the kitchen. I usually go to the Oak Loft (don't know if these shops are just in the south west) but couldn't find anything much so ended up in a shop in Torquay who specialise in oak furniture. I found a fairly nice table with chairs, although didn't commit myself because of the high cost and was then told that there was a £25 delivery charge. This shop hires a man with a van to deliver and that is his charge. I don't know if it's just me but I would have expected a furniture store to have its own van since just about all the items they sell are large and this has really put me off. Also I don't think they know much about retail as one of the tables in the shop had been returned because it had mismatched wood and one of the mirrors was also very dark oak on one side and light on the other. Surely the best pieces should be on show not the poorer returned ones. I was told I could check the furniture I was interested in in the store room because I wouldn't want to have it delivered and then return it but actually I don't think I'm going to buy the items now, Im not feeling too happy about it all. What do you think ? |

Leave it Dustbin, you'll probably see exactly what you're looking for when you're not looking (if you know what I mean!) Sounds like the Torquay shop will be out of business soon if people keep returning their furniture. |

The problem with wood is that it is a natural product but the joiners do a top job of matching the selection of wood so it gives a nearly uniform finish. I would be inclined to leave it for a bit and keep looking. Like FB says you often end up finding what you want when you are least looking for it. Allot of companies when you are spending quite allot will take on the delivery charge as well
