I have a tail to tell about the pond and its strange behaviour. And I didn't take any photos of it Yesterday an 7am Mrs madrat went to let the chickens out of the roost, she came running back into the house shouting "my god the pond, We've had an earth quake or something" (talk about premonition) it's all up in the air and the tiles are all broken, bleary eyed I thought, what's she on about and dragged my body out of bed and out the back door. The pond is a preformed fibreglass shell about 12' long and 5' wide. it was as she said sticking up at one end about 3' in the air, with all the slabs around the edge ripped out, there was about 12" of water left at the far end where there are lots or heavy rocks that held the end down luckily, so the fish were OK. We both stood there for a while just staring, then I realised it wasn't levitating but floating on water. The set up is as follows water is pumped from the main pond to the filter, from their it goes to a small top pond and then from there flows over slate back into the main pond. That night we had had very strong winds and the only thing I can think that happened was as the water left the small pond it was blown away from the slate and flowed into the earth around the pond and then flowed under the pond, so as it emptied itself the one end of the pond started acting as a boat and started to float pushing itself and the slabs up. Seeing the fish were OK for now I turned the pump off and went back to bed for a good think. A few hours later I was there with pumps and hoses. and managed to get the pond back into the ground by 5pm. Today I have fed the filter outlet directly into the main pond, re done the rockery and turned the small pond into a wildlife (still) pond. I just have to re cement the slabs back into place. The fish are all OK and so are the frogs. I cant believe what they have been through the past few months, first the ice (lost loads) and now this, they must be the toughest fish in the area. I also cant believe I didn't get a picture of the pond when it was levitating it was a sight to behold I can tel you.

It can't be the wind Mad Rat, we have had worse winds than those that night. It has to be something else surely You are not on a mine shaft by any chance are you ?
