Name and Series: Lash, from Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike Appearance: Quite possibly the biggest attention-grabber about Lash is the righteous, solid black afro that’s about as out of control as her. Outside of that, the Wunderkind’s pale complexion contrasts starkly with her very dark clothing. While she wears black polypropylene long underwear in tandem with a tight, dark Byzantium two-piece, this is typically covered up by a similarly colored trenchcoat that spans from the midpoint of Lash’s neck to her black boots. Her lissome frame is relatively obscured by this coat as well, but it cannot hide how short she is. Personality: Though a well-accomplished tinkerer and inventor, Lash’s personality is largely that child. Immature, brazen, and relatively callous given the scope of her actions, the Wunderkind finds playing games with her toys – both military personnel and inventions – and winning these games in war to be her only joy in life. Lash may enjoy the destructive mayhem that war brings, but Dual Strike brought forth a curious revelation that maybe, underneath the disorderly exterior, she is slightly more compassionate and humane than she first appears… to her close associates, at least. Capabilities: Lash has two notable talents, both of which involve her special blend of chaotic genius. The first of these is her skill as an inventor. It was because of Lash that a vast majority of Black Hole’s toys – ranging from laser cannons, to the garden variety cannons, Neo Tanks, and even a special Lash Armor for protecting Black Hole pipes! – even existed and made the invasion of War World possible. The second, but most prominent, of Lash’s skills are as a Commanding Officer. Despite seeming like a child playing with toys while engaging enemies, Lash’s unconventional and wildly unpredictable tactics have just enough underlying strategic sense to work perfectly. Combine this with a bit of obfuscating crazy and Lash is far more dangerous than apparent in battle. Units under her command gain offensive bonuses based on and equal to the defensive benefits of terrain they occupy. In short, a normal unit would simply gain a 20% defense increase from hiding in the woods. Lash’s units would gain a 20% attack increase in addition to the defensive one. This is extended further by her CO powers, Terrain Tactics and Prime Tactics. The former voids all terrain-based movement penalties for her units, regardless of type. Devastating in its own right, but that’s not all. Prime Tactics grants a minor Attack and Defense and doubles the terrain benefits of every tile Lash’s units occupy in addition to the Terrain Tactics benefit. While they do not charge up very quickly, it’s almost always a death sentence when they are. Like most COs, Lash does not engage units personally. It can be inferred that she possesses combat experience and training typical of armed forces officers, but this has yet to demonstrated in any meaningful way. As such, any self-defense she exhibits is due to units or inventions at her disposal rather than her own physical prowess. As a CO, Lash would – and, on at least one occasion, outright did – throw away a large portion of her units on a bet dressed up as a game. While not stupid in any sense, the wunderkind has a tendency to do things that, even by her standards, aren’t terribly wise or just meaninglessly throws lives away if they would provide enough amusement. Arguably one of her few CO-related flaws, anyone fighting her should take advantage of it post-haste. Emotionally, Lash’s social underdevelopment and juvenile nature make even genuine attempts to get along carry an outlandish undercurrent. Units under her command likely feel concern for both her acumen and their lives, no matter how skilled of a CO Lash might be. When things aren’t going to plan and/or aren’t fun any more, the wunderkind gets very angry and/or upset and her judgment is impaired accordingly. Background: Prior to Black Hole Rising, Commander Sturm recruited Lash as a CO in the Black Hole army along with Flak, Adder, and Hawke. By and large, each CO was assigned their own continent to subjugate when the Black Hole Rising story began: Flak raided Orange Star, Adder laid siege upon Yellow Comet, and Hawke demolished all Green Earth resistance. Lash was assigned to Blue Moon, although, like the other COs, she made appears on the other continents of War World. In particular, Lash appearing meant the introduction of a new technology during the Orange Star portion of the campaign. In Blue Moon, Lash made a number of messes that Olaf still will never forgive her for making. In particular, the Black Hole Wunderkind turned Olaf’s hometown into a spectacle of bedlam during the Toybox mission. Without a thought, this sleepy town was turned into a live combat zone that Lash used to field test her latest experiments and designs. Olaf was, suffice to say, utterly furious, but ultimately won the day over her. On another mission, Nature Walk, Grit was charged with navigating through a winding route past three of Lash’s devastating Cannons to save the Blue Moon HQ. Though victorious, it was still very close. In Yellow Comet, Lash was caught playing in an expansive mountain range by the intel CO, Sonja. Despite her defeat all but assured, the Black Hole Wunderkind challenged Sonja to a game: if even one of her units got to the Yellow Comet HQ, Lash won. Sonja, having both sides of the range peppered with artillery units and a small defensive battalion around the HQ, agreed to the contest and a battle of wits ensued. Though Lash ultimately lost, she didn’t hesitate to point out how similar they were and left a shaken Sonja behind as Lash retreated. Lastly, Lash was responsible for the creation of the missile launch facility Sturm nearly used to obliterate Cosmoland. In Dual Strike, Lash resumes her work as a scientifically-enthused CO with absolutely all the toys. These toys, such as Black Bombs and the Black Onyx, made her an unbelievable pain to defeat. However, Von Bolt up and decided to execute Hawke for the heinous crimes of seeing him eavesdropping after Kindle suggested a backstab plan not moments before. Hawke fled when this execution order was backed by Oozium 238s and strongly urged Lash to follow. She complied, but the pair would’ve been food if not for the timely assistance of the Allied Nations saving them. Lash’s role beyond this point is left to the player’s discretion, as CO selection is free for them to choose. If they so choose, however, Lash can take part in every single mission thereafter leading up to and even including Von Bolt’s destruction. [Series ends here.] With the Allied Nations disbanded, Lash was left with very little to do. This naturally resulted in a default to experimentation. After much pleading with the various War World nations, Lash secured a remote, mountainous region in Yellow Comet with a very, very low population count and was strictly monitored in exchange for having a new Toybox. It was around this time Lash began developing a literal Black Hole tank. The results, well, speak for themselves. ... After riding a wormhole into an entirely different universe, Lash found herself reunited with an elite squad of Mech troops, known as Decoy Squad, on the moon. The Wunderkind's misadventures with Decoy Squad were many, ranging from a search for the Black Arc, to setting fire to Kokiri Forest, and even raiding a market. How Lash left that universe for this one was a truly mysterious affair indeed. RP Sample: Another day had started in Yellow Comet, although only just. The sun had barely risen in the sky and the birds – along with the civilian population – were likely still asleep. The Toybox was entirely unpopulated, leaving only a moist dew from the evening chill as witnesses to the fell conglomerate. Expansive forestry, roads to nowhere, sporadic mountainous regions, man-made lakes, and meandering rivers that so peppered the landscape had only fauna as their companions For the moment, anyway. The military base nearby, however, was hardly so sparsely populated. Within its metal walls and brightly-lit halls, infantrymen were performing early morning drills, vehicles were being maintained for the stress tests to come later, and some poor, unfortunate souls were tasked to assist in the test fire of a brand new invention. Lash needed a few tags after all and those dummies weren’t going to move themselves without rocket-propulsion. For some stupid reason, jet-assisted targeting dummies or firing at real troops was out of the question. There was only one reason the Wunderkind wasn’t throwing a fit over such unfair constraints on her genius. Namely, it didn’t matter. Sliding out from underneath the mechanical monstrosity she had more or less designed herself, Lash wiped her face off with a nearby towel and gave a satisfied sigh. The new prototype tank was finished. See, normally tank shells had to deal with pesky things like armor and hitting their target. That was usually avoided by bigger guns and shells and well-trained crew, but why not circumvent it entirely? You know, by making the tank shoot enemies into a black hole. Of course, some people would say that would violate more than a few laws of physics and would be impossible. They were so boring. Sure, it took awhile to make it work, but if it did then it would be such great fun. One look at the clock gave Lash a momentary frown – she’d been awake that long? Really? – but it quickly dispersed into a grin when she caught sight of the Black Hole Tank again. “Who’s Lash’s great widdle tanky-wanky? You are!” The wunderkind giggled, trying her hardest to hug the oversized hell-on-wheels. The grease on her clothes would come out later and besides, that’s what her coat was for. Having the best of hopes for her latest creation, Lash let go of the tank to retrieve and put on her coat. No sense not wearing it if she wasn’t going to get it full of machine parts. Not a moment sooner had she done this than three troops entered the room. “Uh, m-ma’am? We have the targets you requested. Where would you like them?” Though nervous, Lash had no idea why. It wasn’t like she was going to use them as guinea pigs. Well, not this time… but anyway, that wasn’t important. “Oh yay! Go set them over there. Tee hee hee!” The Wunderkind gestured to the wall to their right in front of the tank. The troops almost questioned why she’d want to fire a tank indoors, in an experimental mechanics chamber, right next to a door, and inside their own base, but opted not to. They had grown used to this behavior by now. “Yes, ma’am…” True, the chamber was very large specifically to accommodate whatever deranged ideas Lash came up with and usually the first time something was used the firing mechanism didn’t function. Setting them down, one of the three looked back at the trenchcoated CO. “Permission to leave you to experimenting, ma’am?” Digging inside her pockets in search of something, Lash barely heard the request. “Huh? Oh, fine. If you don’t wanna watch-” The Wunderkind huffed, stopping only when she realized all three of them were gone. “Losers. Oh well, their loss! This’ll be so much fun when I get it on my playground.” Finally finding the remote control in her coat pocket, Lash pulled it out and took a step back before pressing the big red button. Surprisingly, the tank actually fired! The blasting sound made her wince, although any pain was interrupted by a sense of awe as she noticed a small black hole in front of the middle targeting dummy. “IT WORKS!” Lash laughed triumphantly, failing to notice the sizing of the black hole growing exponentially until she felt a tugging sensation. ‘I wonder where this goes…’ As the Black Hole sucked her in, the Wunderkind’s last idle thought would be disrupted by banging her head against the very tank she made. Where she landed was a very good question, but all personnel in the base were likely to be grateful for the reprieve from duty. (alternatively) How You Would Play This Character: It's Lash. If that isn't enough, consider: She's going to construct the Beat Hazard Device, a mech powered by DDR. The space station is maintained by Green Earth troops, so there's that. Oh, and I may have some plans involving the Black Arc, a dormant volcano, and a very large misunderstanding. |

Approved, on the condition that the Beat Hazard device responds well to Cascada. |
