It was going to be a thread about Skyrim but that probably wouldn't generate enough discussion on its own here.

The thread for discussion and news of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series.

The next game in the series is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and it's hitting (with meteoric impact on 11-11-11, the eleventh of November and now 36 days away. It's already set to be game of the year and the RPG of the generation, setting new standards just like its predecessors.
I'd post news here, but I don't trust the Wikis and won't go on them, so I need to find alternate news sources.

Okay, some Skyrim news, and only the most recent I'm bothered to find; if you want all the news, find it yourself.

Skyrim's Trophies

There's a huuuuuuuuuuuuge reveal from PC gamer, go to the Skyrim Wiki if you want to see it.

SKyrim's looking to be an excellent game. However, being that I care more about AC:B and FFXIII-2, I'm saving my money. So I must wait for a price drop for this.

However, every time I see a screenshot of Oblivion, I want it more and more. I was planning to get it for PC, but at this rate I might just give in and get the PS3 version. It seems right up my alley, so I just gotta get it.

^ I didn't see that post up there. o.O

Well, knowing how you're new to the Elder Scrolls, I'd recommend (this is the advice generally given) just picking up Oblivion for like $15 on the bargain bin. Skyrim is like a massive evolution on Oblivion, so it'll help you get used to the format.
Once, months ago, you mentioned you'd play Skyrim (and Oblivion, yikes) in third-person if you got interested in them. If you play either, I would recommend you do NOT do that; they're designed for first-person, despite Skyrim's improved third-person, and that's really how the game(s) should be played.
Example: in third-person, you can't see that spoon sitting on the table, or the coins scattered on the ground. You can't see that secret note tucked behind the bedhead, or that hidden switch you need to enter the next room.
In short, for The Elder Scrolls series, you pretty much need to go first-person 100%. It's so easy to get used to. o3o
-------------
In other news, it is now 20 days to Skyrim. My blackout was supposed to start today but there was a huge couple of reveals, like teasing live-action Dovahkiin shots and more screenshots.
Here are the live-action shots:
I don't have a lot of credit left, so this is all I can manage.

Again, we have exactly TWENTY days left until the game hits. Well, I do. I'm a day ahead of you guys so, theoretically, it comes out a day early here, BUT as mine is ordered over the internet, and the 11th falls on a Friday, I'm probably not getting mine until the 15th (which is Revs' release, incidentally) or later.
Should have paid for that premium shipping.

Well it's not like I'll NEVER use first person. Obviously, if I find gameplay impacted negatively by third person, I will switch. And I'd probably use it for deeper exploration. However, using it 100% will never happen. Never.

I don't use first person 100%. Sometimes I like going third person :aldo: (Although it's mostly when I'm just running around town or in the wild, riding a horse, or jumping rooftops x3)
First person is still best for the most part though, yeah. and it is easy to get used to.

IBeat, there's a chance I may be getting Skyrim on a later date as well, since my dad works on the day of its release :c But idk, I've never got a game right on release day before, I was hoping Skyrim would be the first... but, if I did get it on the 11th, that would mean going with my dad when he goes to work- like at 6-7am, and wait til he gets off work at 3:30pm so he can drive me over there. (He won't take me after he gets home, too far of a drive and he'll end up being too tired by then) Not sure if I'm willing to do that or not o_o

Again, forgot about this thread temporarily. xD

As for using first-person, no one will use it all the time. Now that Drake's mentioned it, it's occured to me that I do use it when I get bored in Oblivion -- I completely forgot. I often hit 3rd-person when dashing around, or when checking out my character's armour. Lately I've been doing it to show off how my girl is essentially a floating ball of flame (her torch) because of the 100% Chameleon. And last night I was trying to turn her into a rubber band with Paralyze, used it then too.

In Skyrim, I imagine third-person is going to be used a lot more because of how fluid it is compared to its predecessor -- it's been revealed that you can customize the camera's distance and tilt when you use that view.
In Oblivion, the main reason players avoid third-person is because it's ridiculously clumsy.

ANYWAY.
We're now just five days from release day, and Skyrim's soundtrack is up for preorder. I'm getting it as soon as I have the money spare. I am SCRAMBLING for the $35 -- that's an amazing deal to me for four disks.
I have it from a guy on Youtube that the full soundtrack (he has it early) is four hours and twenty-six minutes:

SGTBizarro

@IBeatSephiroth You'll be pleased to know that the music folder for the game totals an astounding 4 hours and 26 minutes. Keep in mind this includes the dungeon music and other pieces which are more for ambience, but still it is a massive compilation of awesomeness. I haven't listened to most of it yet, don't want to spoil hearing most of it for the first time in-game.

It contains four disks with thirteen tracks each, for a total of fifty-two tracks. That's an average length of five minutes per track.
I'm so excited for the soundtrack. I missed out on Oblivion's (got in late) and I love that the copies sold before Christmas are personally signed by Jeremy Soule.

I really expected more posts in this thread. Skyrim discussion and stuff. O_o

To follow up on my previous post, my OST was shipped on the 14th of January and arrived a couple of days ago. It had some minor scuffing and a crack but the thing DID come all the way from the U.S. And I'm 100% happy with it despite all the people whinging about similar damage -- it's signed by Jeremy Soule in a nice gold paint pen (lol poor guy signing thousands of them) and the CDs were in immaculate condition -- that's all that matters. The audio quality is higher than in the game itself and amazing even though I've only heard it through headphones and my tv's speakers.

Patch 1.4 for Skyrim is out now for PC and the console version is undergoing approval now. Here is the full list of fixes as stated by Bethesda on BethBlog:
Skyrim Patch 1.4

The Creation Kit is also due for release shortly.

Dawnguard confirmed. I was watching when it went out about... 4 hours ago. We can expect a trailer at E3 and a release about a month or two after.

The name was leaked months ago, and late last month extra details were leaked through sloppy patch files.
What're we in for?

Snow elves. (!!!!!!!!!)
Spears!
Crossbows.
Better vamps.
Vamp and lycan perk trees.
Other stuff like that. Google it, I don't have the time nor the credit right now.

I swear, if this snubs the snow elves or the Psijic order, I'm going to be pissed.
More pissed than I already am due to the fact that I can't download the damn thing anyway.

The Elder Scrolls Online.
There's a fair bit of issues with this one.

When I first saw the logo, I was apprehensive but not critical because the logo looked good -- a dragon, an eagle and a lion.
Then I saw the leaked screenshots.

Why, Zenimax, why?
It looks like World of Warcraft, i.e shitty. Bright, colourful, AND FREAKIN' THIRD PERSON. TPS ONLY. The battles are described as 'hotbar-based' (?). Apparently, this means not actual proper combat as seen in proper ES titles.

Look, I know it's set in the Second Era, Zenimax, but you're going to make a lot of fans furious with the liberties you're taking. Everything the 'plot' is based on never actually happened. Molag Bal never attempted to take over Cyrodiil. Those three factions don't fit in anywhere with the lore.
The only window this could have happened in is unbelivably small! It had to be the time after Dagoth's reawakening but JUST BEFORE Emperor Talos/Tiber Septim conquered Tamriel.
In short, this is damn well almost impossible.
The one thing this game has going for it is that you can travel freely between the provinces as in, say, LOTRO, for example. Everything else is a detracter, such as locking people into classes and the blatantly anti-Scrolls vibe.

Oh my god what a mistake!
This is the Elder Scrolls, for fuck's sake!

ES fans? Discuss.

Edit: Bit of trivia from Skyrim.
Karliah is a descendent of Queen Barenziah. Yes, THAT Barenziah. It's probably why she's the only known Dunmer with violet eyes (rather than red).

------------------------------

What I've been up to in Skyrim;
- Finished Thieves Guild and Civil War questlines.
- Feldas is at 50 hours, level 27. Just got his ass handed to him by a Frost and Blood dragon duo while on his way to find the priest of Boethiah.
