WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND TURBINE ANNOUNCE THE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE: HELM’S DEEP

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment unveiled today The Lord of the Rings Online™: Helm’s Deep, the next expansion to the award-winning free-to-play massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) developed by Turbine. Helm’s Deep will continue the Epic Story into the western plains of Rohan, allow players to take a direct role in the battle for Helm’s Deep and advance the level cap to 95.

“With Helm’s Deep, we’re bringing the War of the Ring to players on a monumental scale,” said Kate Paiz, Executive Producer of The Lord of the Rings Online, Turbine. “Our team is thrilled to create another iconic moment in Middle-earth, and put players in the center of the action.”

Experience the Battle for Helm’s Deep – Fight to defend Helm’s Deep starting at level 10, as your character enlists as a soldier in the Battle of the Hornburg, the most massive conflict yet in The Lord of the Rings Online. Earn rewards for your contribution to the war effort – win or lose, your aid makes a difference!

• Explore new landscapes across Western Rohan - Explore the Westemnet of Rohan and rally each of the five Ridings as Rohan returns to glory. Traverse the capital of Edoras, mysterious Dunharrow, and the fortress of the Hornburg, deep within Helm’s Deep.

• Advance from levels 85 to 95 - Experience 10 new levels, from 85 to 95, with new skills and completely updated class specializations. Both mounted and un-mounted combat will challenge you as you war against the evil of Saruman.

• Continue the Epic Story - Encounter beloved characters such as Aragorn, Éowyn, and Éomer. Restore King Théoden to his rightful lordship and defend the peoples of Rohan at Helm’s Deep.

And I don't even have Riders of Rohan yet.

Anyway, I'm not sure if either of you are interested in it, but let me know. If you do want any, I'll do my best to get them. x3

(Other than that, the only other new things are a steed that matches this set, and a caparison of the same for the warsteed. So you guys aren't missing out on too much.)

Ooh, I actually rather like that robe/cloak set. If you don't mind, I'd like that. But don't feel obligated if you don't end up feeling like it.

^Already done :P

In any case I'm trying to do the deeds for the festival, and it requires doing the quests a lot of times. I'm ending up with extra tokens anyway x3

I was in Bree this-morning running some quick errands and the amount of people there must've been 3x more than usual. I've been on around 8am a lot recently, but dropping into Bree didn't see that many. Perhaps something was on that I didn't hear about, but it was nice. Approximately 15 people at the west gate at once.
There was also a dance party in the vault.

According to the server stat site, Imladris is getting 20-40 logins per 5 minutes and the population online at any given time is peaking around 400. As far as I remember.

This post was originally located here.

Since we need to discuss this as a kin, small as we are, I'll put this post here.

Turbine has announced which servers are remaining open; no surprise to anyone, Imladris is going (however, the likes of Vilya, Snowbourn and Elendilmir are surprising).
Most of the remaining U.S servers are non-RP concerned, whereas the EU servers are 4 RP and one standard, with two in German, one in French, and two in English. As a kin, the majority of our play is on Imladris, a U.S server. We must choose from a U.S one.
First up, all VIP and Premium players have recieved two extra free character slots; if you've wanted to bring one of yours from another server onto the same as the rest, you may have an opportunity to do so.

World Transfers
World Closure Announcement

In these links you can find the relevant information; since Turbine are fans of awful page layout, I recommend copying the entire thing to Word or something for readability that doesn't burn your eyesight.
You can see that they are closing 19 servers for a remaining 10. We have five to choose from. Also detailed in the post is the order that servers will be opening for transfer off of, "a few at a time". Imladris is in the last third. This gives us time to evaluate, discuss, and re-evaluate.
I've also made a tumblr post here replying to a follower about this.

"*Note: Brandywine will be unavailable for incoming transfers for a time until population and load can be re-evaluated on new hardware.*"

This is due to Brandy's size; for similar reasons I suspect we keep an eye on all five choices as things proceed up until we can transfer off of Imladris. It seems that it'll be several weeks before our transfers open up, and it will be best to monitor the situation as it advances.

During the transfer process the ten remainining servers will change dramatically; they're recieving refugees from the other servers and the populations are going to intermingle and encounter teething issues before settling down in months to a year.
They'll also get much larger; the five remaining on each side will have players not only coming to them but leaving from the other remainders; some number of people will be leaving Brandy, for instance. Arkenstone may end up second largest from people going to it purely because it's the smallest survivor and people will pick it for that.

ServerApprox. sizeNotes
Arkenstone
11-15k
I've got nothing to add. Haven't heard anything about Ark.
Crickhollow
15-20k
I've heard that Crick has a notable amount of bickering and trolling. Take that with salt.
Landroval
25-30k
This server is EN-RE -- roleplay encouraged. Big events, like Weatherstock.
Gladden
30-35k
Apparently has a community that can be argumentive and aggressive, with a large PvP population. Again, salt.
Brandywine
56-65k
Brandy is the largest server by FAR, as I'm sure you already know. It is closed for transfers for the time being.

I suggest checking your characters' names against the available servers using the Alt Finder. It's been out of commission for two years and three days now, but it's something anyway. I didn't find Anoriel/e on several of them, for instance. You can also just add /SERVER/NAME to the end of the URL.
It's not overly reliable, since it's old, but it's something to go off of. The same goes for these stats, which is where the rough figures from above come from. These numbers should be treated as rough approximates only. Here is an update.

We can also make scouting/placeholder characters on prospective servers who will be used to gauge the environment, e.g running around in earlier areas and checking out the attitudes of the community and the nature of general play. We may wish to target a server that is mature, friendly, and not 'noisy' in regards to player population. A busy hub is fun, but so is solo and isolated exploration.

It hasn't even begun yet, and Imladris is in the last 40% of the transfers; we have plenty of time, perhaps a couple of months, before we can transfer. Arkenstone is nearly the same size as Imladris. Crickhollow, almost double. Landroval is twice to three times the size. Gladden, thrice.

As things are at the moment, I suggest Landroval, Gladden, or Arkenstone, with a preferance to Landroval.

Edit:

Gifts
"All characters on all worlds will receive a gift box as a thank you from us as a remembrance of the worlds we will be closing that hold so many fond memories for all of us. The Free Peoples' gift box will contain a Title Picker Box “Of <World> with choice of any of the 29 worlds, hooded and hoodless variants of a cloak, and a housing banner decoration."

Kins
"When transferring a character who is a Kinship leader, the game will disband the kinship on the home world and reform it on the new world complete with all historical data. Players who were in that same kin will be instantly added to the kin on the new world if they decide to follow the Kin leader."

We can also, apparently, transfer entire kins in one go.

Well right off the bat, Arkenstone an Landroval look to be our best options. Of course, as you said, populations will be fluctuating. However, waiting for as long as we can to decide means it'll be less likely for us to get our preferred names. Other people will squat on names, too. Glaerdan seems to be safe on all of them as of the cutoff point, while Eohric is taken on Crickhollow and Celebuial is taken on Landroval.

Now, are we unable to transfer to an EU server or are you just not recommending it?

I always preferred Imladris for its small, quiet community and overall bullshit-less attitude with the RP sprinkled throughout. I never expected it to stay, but predicting which of the remainders will be the best for that type of environment after all's done will be difficult.

It's not so much waiting as long as we can; the servers are going to be opening up to be transferred from in small groups at a time, probably pairs and trios. They're staggering it to gauge load and etc. They're going to be occurring in the order shown in the dev post (which is order of size smallest to largest but the difference in the bottom 30% is ~400 people), and will be announced as they go, probably. Imladris is just after the halfway mark.
In the meantime, we can reserve names on each of the locations we're considering by making a proxy character on it; we then delete the placeholder shortly before transferring. If we're considering all four, we make a character of the same name on all four -- this was actually recommended by the Exec. Producer,

Vyvyanne

For those concerned that your server will be last to move, you can still create new characters on the remaining worlds. So you can still reserve character name, Kinship names, and houses using a new character or one already on a remaining world if this is a concern for you. One house per account per world, means your items from the previous world will just be added to your placeholder house once your server is opened for transfer.

As for transfering to/from an EU server, it's not possible. If it were, I'd probably recommend Laurelin, as it's the official RP server and everyone's generally level-headed and friendly there (and the EN-RP is not strictly enforced despite the name).

Region Transfer

Existing characters on EU and US worlds will have a data conflict moving to a different region, so we are only able to support transfers of characters from an EU world to another EU world and US to US. You will note that we have now labeled all worlds on the launcher with their region. However, there is no restrictions on where you might start a NEW character and play based on your physical location, so feel free to try out new worlds in which ever region you feel most comfortable.

The only restriction is moving from US to US or EU to EU, due to however way the data sets are handled. Otherwise, everything's normal. I think they'd have corruption issues or something moving from one server region to the other. It's like how in FFXIV and ESO the transfers between regions are non-compatible for similar reasons.
