Arkenstone is now approximately the size of Brandywine, based on the activity. Holy shit. Just as a side note, that Brandy spike.

As these are logins, you can get an estimate of the size (that's what these charts are); observing the yearly chart, one can see that from August when the transfers opened Brandywine has steadily increased. In that same time the other remaining servers have steadily increased, and effects of the refugees arriving are visible.
There's an abrupt upturn toward the end of the chart for Arkenstone and Crickhollow. Arkenstone was the recommmened server on the launcher for some time, and many of the refugees have moved there; it is now getting the same amount of player logins as Brandywine. That is massive in comparison.
Landroval is behind in third, followed by Gladden and Crickhollow. The new apparent ranking (this time I have included Imladris) :

ServerLogins per 5 minLogins since last restart
Brandywine
55
127,182
Arkenstone
50
127,461
Landroval
42
98,385
Gladden
33
80,391
Crickhollow
35
67,415

Imladris

24,233

Unfortunately for me, a vast portion of the Oceanic players have moved to Arkenstone. They are mostly from Elendilmir and Nimrodel. On Elendilmir in particular, the Ocaenic community collaborated and decided to move collectively to Ark: that's partially responsible for the jump, evidently.

The second-largest server is the one I'd see the most people on at logical times, but as a kin we are not necessarily looking for the largest. For performance reasons, but that will not be as much of an issue with the new hardware; also gameplay reasons.
Here is an account of the current situation on Arkenstone:

Quote:

Tonight I took my 39 Beorning alt to Midgewater to finish up the last couple dozen Sickleflies and Neekers for deeds. I kept running into on-level characters and had to mount up and go to far corners to avoid impacting their fun. After that I went to finish up Bree orc deed near Trestlebridge and found a couple soloers slaughtering away in the camps near the road. Had to go to the orc camp north of Hengstacer to avoid them. Then I went to the Annunlos to start working on Goblins and found a couple duos sating their bloodlust in Minas Eriol.

I haven't seen that many 15-25 characters in those areas in a long, long, time. There's a decent population wave levelling up through Arkenstone right now.

Ark has acquired a lot of visible growth and new blood; it is now getting crowded in certain areas. it must be very crowded in Gondor and Rohan.

There's lots of good discussion on that second thread re: the sever environments, as well. Apparently, Crickhollow is still somewhat hostile, and Landroval is friendlier. Arkenstone is described a couple of times as 'warm and welcoming'. Gladden, apparently, remains aggressive with in-fighting.

The majority of Imladris' kinships, according to this thread, are going to either Landroval (practically all the RP kins e.g Children of Arda) or Crickhollow.

According to this post,

Quote:

PVE is not as common, unless it happens inside kinships and they don't have the need to advertise. I PUG a lot so I'm not getting enough action there. It is a very high population server and u always find players around but it's mostly RPers, so if your thing is to chill with other people while logged on, that's your server.

Our top choices still appear to be Arkenstone or Landroval.

SIDE NOTE they are working on housing again and considering allowing multiple houses per account

Quote:

We are looking into the possibility of this along with some other Housing system improvements to come in a future update.

(But yes we are mining all of the old threads on the subject for ideas).

Your properties are about to be repossesed. I've already paid the kinhouse back up to the maximum (six months). No idea if others can pay the lockout fee.

Edit: I'm in the neighbourhood (took like 5 minutes to remember where your houses were) and your upkeeps appear to be paid up fine. Mine was locked out when I checked it last week, and so was the kinhouse.
Edit Edit: the Gondorian furniture's flush with the wall now.

Edit Edit Edit: Pelargir's full of refugees and exhausted warriors and at least half of them are annoyed at Aragorn, particuarly the Rangers. They have to work triple time getting the ships ready and full of people and supplies before they sail to MT and it's amusing. They're carrying cargo back and forth and mumbling as you walk past. Meanwhile Aragorn's not even in Pelargir ʘ‿ʘ

Edit Edit Edit Edit: THAT'S A BIG THORONGIL/ARAGORN STATUE

Edit Edit Edit Edit Edit:

However, the great esteem and many honors that Ecthelion gave to Thorongil and Gandalf incurred the jealousy and anger of Prince Denethor who felt both slighted and threatened.

As of today all closing US worlds already open for transfers should now see Brandywine as a target destination. Additionally next week we will open Maiar for transfers on Monday 11/16 and Imladris on Tuesday 11/17. We will continue to monitor and open worlds for transfer as appropriate while we wait for the buildout to be completed.

Closing dates for the Closing worlds will be extended to the end of Q1 2016 so that players have time to return and get mail from kinships and friends in game before making a decision on where to move.

Oh hey thanks for checking on our houses! Seems weird that any of mine would still be fine -I haven't logged on in ages. I should probably check on that.

Anyway, does that mean that transferring begins on the 16th and lasts until Q1 2016? I can probably get on to discuss things any night this coming week (most likely some time after midnight, my time). We can discuss in this thread or we can discuss in chat or anywhere - I don't really give a damn.

As I've stated before, I think Crickhollow sounds the most appealing, personally. Considering how rarely I interact with other players, I don't really mind a bit of hostility. Also, low population is pretty important to me, and if Crickhollow is getting a poor reputation it may not bump up.

Thanks for keeping us posted, by the way. It would suck to be possibly split up. I may not be playing at all lately, but that's because my computer and internet just can't handle it without setting the graphics all the way down. And I'd honestly rather just wait for a new setup than lower the prettiness. The game's too beautiful to do that to myself.

Yeah thanks for keeping us posted, IBeat. Just realized I didn't say that, and I apologize. and thanks for checking on the houses too. I thought I payed them good enough so they'd stay unlocked for a while last I was on, but I guess it wasn't for as far ahead as I remember.

I said in chat, but my computer and internet has been too shitty for the game too. I will be getting new internet before long, but can't say about the computer... sometime next year though, I'm sure.

and I still vote on Crickhollow too, just so that's out there and in case it was missed in chat.

#1 is still Brandywine, by a mile.
#2 is actually Crickhollow because they have been the "recommended server" for several weeks now.
#3 is Arkenstone, because they had been "recommended" before Crickhollow, and it was a very popular destination for a while.
#4 is Landroval
#5 is Gladden, and Gladden actually is a lot lower than the #2, 3, and 4.

Right now it looks like they will not close until end of Q1 016 so folks will have time to log on and get notes from kinships before having to make the decision from the login screen.

LotRO is designed to run on dial-up; anecdotally, when my internet (connecting from half the world away from the servers) is being shaped to 256kpbs my latency/loss goes from 250~/0.0% to ~400/3.2% and there is no discernable difference in performance. Rest assured, the fault is entirely on your machines.
Additionally, the new hardware will likely improve performance across the board.

As neither of you evidently care about the shifting populations re: server move, I will be deliberating upon and making the decision myself.

Edit: Interesting developments: [X]

Vyvyanne

While we are still working through some kinks in upgrading from 32-bit to 64bit Operating Systems for our new hardware, we have come to the last of the list of opening closing worlds for transfer. On Dec 14th Snowbourn will be opened for transfer.
All closing worlds will then be available for transfer.

We will also be offering Free transfers between remaining worlds following the below schedule.
• Dec 7th- Jan 3rd: Arkenstone & Gwaihir
• Jan 4th- 10th: Landroval & Belegaer
• Jan 11th- 17th: Crickhollow & Sirannon
• Jan 18th- Jan 24th: Gladden & Laurelin
• Jan 25th- Feb 29th: Brandywine & Evernight
• March 1st- 31st: Arkenstone & Gwaihir
• April 1st - May 1st: Landroval & Belegaer
• May 2nd- May 31st: Crickhollow & Sirannon
• June 1st- 30th: Gladden & Laurelin

Please note that transfers off of closing worlds will remain free permanently regardless of schedule.
All Closing worlds will no longer be available for play on April 4th 2016 (my bold). Characters will remain available for transfer to an open world.

Once again we are grateful for your patience throughout this process that took longer than any of us expected, but we are very excited about this upgrade and the boosted activity on the top ten worlds and we hope you are as well!

Thank you,

This morning we added 3 Character transfer tokens to every account and enabled the ability to use these to go between any of the ten remaining worlds. Transfers are 1 token per character so you can use these to move your main characters while you wait for a free window for your world or hold on to them for a later time in case you decide to try out a different world.

This also means that the Account/ shared storage transfer is now available between all worlds and is free (no token needed).

Currently the 3 tokens we have granted or any that you may have purchased prior are the only ones available. We will offer a way to purchase more in the new year.

We hope this helps those of you who may have made a mistake in your transfer choice or simply want a change of pace without waiting for free transfer windows.

Happy Holidays from all of us to you!
LOTRO Team

And the stats:
As all the closing servers have all been available for transfer for over a month, and the free transfer windows off of surviving servers have begun, this is an indicator of relatively stable size. It will stabilize more as people shift off of their respective servers onto others, but aside from Brandy and perhaps Crickhollow it will not change much.
The now smallest server, Gladden, is 23 times the size of Imladris. It is 10 times the size of pre-transfer Imladris.
Most of Imladris' people have moved to Landroval and Crickhollow.
