As soon as I'm out of my Elder Scrolls kick, I'm picking up this game. I've become very excited about it.

I think, IBS, you might be the only person I've seen make a case for autosave calling it increased challenge. Most people like it because they forget to save and this nifty little thing helps them out.
For someone like me, I rarely play a game twice. Doesn't matter how good it is, I just don't have the attention span. Hell, I rarely can complete a game on my first playthrough. So when my file gets autosaved over after I've done something that makes it impossible for me to get certain armor or weapon or piece of clothing (I collect, shhh), it pisses me off. I will certainly be playing DD with a huge walkthrough to be sure I don't make any mistakes. It's not exactly more challenging than it is annoying.

-*-

Drake's exactly how I pictured him. Crysia, not so much xD. I always saw her with blonde hair...even if her profile says otherwise. My mind doesn't seem to make these connections.

I'm going to play around on the character creator in the demo and make some of my RP characters. I tried this a while ago and started with Atar. It was impossible because you can't have a scruffy character. You can either be clean-shaven, have VERY light stubble, or a styled beard or mustache. Might try his Duke form instead. Or I'll redesign Atar with muttonchops xD

And that, IBeat, is exactly what my issue is, what Paw said here.
I ended up missing out on some quests in the beginning, (some that were kind of important.) and I couldn't go back, it was too late by the time I realized. I was almost tempted just to erase my file and start the whole game over. but I had already done a lot, and I worked hard on my characters and was happy with how they looked, so I decided against it. but it got me pissed. Though I did make the mistake of not being prepared for how the save system works, so that was my bad. From now on I have been extra careful.
But still, this does and will always bother me, especially when starting out on a game like this for the first time. and as Paw said, it is rather more annoying than challenging, really.

But not enough to not play this game because it is bloody amazing still--and with that, back to more positive looks on the subject!

I'm glad you guys think my characters look how you imagined. :3 except Paw with Crysia... bonde hair? get that out of your head! :wtf:
and I'm glad you think they look heroic, IBeat. xD

The character creation is indeed the best I have seen, I really like it. The only minor issue I have with it; I do think there should be more choices with the hairstyle. and I find it silly that both genders share all the same hairstyles. Most of the long hair on the guys are very girly. x3 (speaking of that, I did see a character in the game, a guard, who looked a bit tough and manly. He even had a mustache to further show his manliness. but the one thing that threw it off was he had one of the girly hairstyles; one of the long ones with a ponytail, and bangs. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. x3)

IBeat: I did set the griffins wings on fire, yes. in fact that is the only way to keep the darn thing from fleeing the battle. xD
There has been some more surprising moments so far, but I'll leave those for you guys to find out for yourselves. ;3

Gathering items is kinda fun. you get to break a lot of crates and barrels and pots and such to get things, which is awesome. and what helps if you miss anything, your pawns will grab them. They actually end up finding a lot of things I miss. xD
As for the "crafting", you don't actually craft weapons/armory.. but really just use the crafting items to enhance the weapons and armor you have.

I was very excited about this game when you introduced us, though I guess I didn't show it too much. But still, I was rather surprised I ended up being the first to get it too. xD I was going to wait. But I couldn't hold the excitement. *SHOT* (also there's the fact that I knew we were going to have financial issues soon, so I wanted to grab it while I still could. I doubt I'll be able to get much games the rest of this year from this point on.)

I'd forgotten about that aspect, what you guys pointed out (heh, tiredness). I see what you mean -- especially since advancing at certain points of the main story cuts off sidequests.

I should mention that I got this game and I love it! Haven't played it in a few days, but I'll get back to it. My Arisen is named Casper and is a mix between Caspar and Hiro (since I didn't really want to run around as a Snow Lupus).
The Pawn looks like a blonde-haired Ingrid and is named Ava. I'll put up screens soon.

If you guys are still playing, pics?
Ahaha I'm a bother.
I still don't have this game, shockingly! The price is dropping a bit though ($79 atm) so that's something. I'm dying to play it, but I don't want to until I get a Game Capture HD.

So I played DD for the first time last night. I spent nine to ten hours (!) playing it, roughly, with an hour-long break in the middle. :D
I spent three hours in character creation for my Arisen, and a further two and a half hours, (perhaps three, as well) for my Pawn. Time well spent, as they turned out fanstastic! Gorgeous!

Hi there

These three shots are of my Arisen (Ranzer) on her first day in Cassardis, first day in the wilderness and first night in the wilderness (with just Rook at this stage).

MOAR

These ones I took just before I got off last night. I started trying to take them when the sun was still high but by the time I got everyone to stand still, the sun was setting so the lighting's a little compromised. xD
The first two are of my Pawn, Elseth (I need to get better shots of him, he kept moving and it was starting to annoy me), and the last two are better views of RazArisen. I'm very happy with how they both turned out. :'D
She's level 9, but when he came out of the Rift he was only level 4 for some reason, so now I'm making him catch up. He's level 7 at the moment, and when/if I get on later today, I'm taking my newly-formed party of four to go and try to best this group of six or seven bandits that kill me every single time. The problem is the heavy guy -- captain, I think. Each hit knocks his target back, but I haven't tried with my Pawn yet. He's a Fighter, so he may be able to stand up to him. I sure as hell couldn't do it with just the Arisen and Rook (who's getting swapped out soon).

I went past the Encampment adventuring before I went and got my Pawn (just Arisen and Rook) and got COMPLETELY turned around in the dark because I was being stingy with my lantern. First we got attacked by wolves, which were in a pack big enough to overwhelm us. We ran... straight into a group of bandits. Rook went down and I had to run blindly through the wilderness before coming back again to wake him up. O_________________O
We then bolted back to the Encampment, lol.

Arisen is obviously based on Ranzer, and I think I got her likeness very very close, almost spot-on. The resemblence is especially close in that second-last screenshot.
The Pawn is based on Elseth, a character I haven't introduced and most likely won't -- he was a mercanary that was captured by Ranzer's people, who then turned from his employers and got recruited to the ranks instead. Just so happens to be bloody gorgeous.
Okay, towards the end of making the pawn I kind of just went nuts trying to "make the hottest Pawn possible". I succeeded. They both turned out so fantastic. :sopretty:
The other day I said the long hair looks weird in this game -- after some actual gameplay, I don't think it does anymore. Hell, the way hair is animated is pretty damn lovely by itself.

The character creator is so deep -- the best one on PS3, and the best one I've come across, full stop. Even after choosing height and weight, those two things are still altered by musculature, torso, legs and arms, and head and boob size! I managed to fine-tune my two to a fine point, and pretty much exactly how I wanted them.

The Pawns are so lively! It's fantastic -- I don't feel like I'm adventuring with robots like in other games *coughFFXIIIcough* and they do their own thing and are actually intelligent in battle. The only thing I can complain about regarding this is they won't stand still for screenshots! XD
The only way they could've been better, or at least that I can think of right now, is if the conversation and affinity system from Dragon Age: Origins was mixed in. The Pawns (and character creation) mixed with Origins' sense of party members and forming bonds with them. Actually, you know what, just mash the two games together and all will be FANTASTIC.

It may be because this is my first new PS3 game since Skyrim, but this game is AMAZING. I love it! Can't think of anything I dislike so far, and I'm only up to killing the Cyclops at the Encampment and getting my Pawn!
That, by the way, is almost as far as the demo goes. I racked up three to four hours in the demo, but I'm already at almost thrice that so far, and I've earned almost thrice the money too -- and spent all of it on new gear! All 25,000G.
But I'm rambling. Rambling after just ten hours (roughly) of gameplay. The game's exactly how I hoped.

Okay, so yesterday evening I played for around twelve hours (I need to slow down a bit, clearly). I had QUITE the adventure -- my most productive day in Dragon's Dogma so far and I learned a lot as well. I know this is a long post but it's the best way I can think of presenting the screens without being spammy, lol.

I set out from the Encampment (everyone level 15) and headed back to the Witchwood to check out the odd features Drake mentioned. It was my first night in the wood. I spotted two suspiciously humanoid-looking boulders, then took off again and kept adventuring.
I headed down the coast and went down near the side of the bandit lair fortress, and headed down the slope on one side of it. I saw this with a group of bandits and decided to turn around and continue on my way -- I didn't know if I could take on a cyclops AND eight bandits at once, and I hadn't fought a cyclops yet besides the one at the encampment. Then I found a whole herd of cows. :'D

Just past the cows I stumbled across a grave high on the cliffs and kinda wanted to slap my pawns when they decided to pick the flowers planted on top of it. LOL
A little way past the grave I saw some bonfires and figured it'd be best to wait until morning, so I stood on top of some boulders atop the ridge I was on. When morning came I discovered how high up I was and that I was overlooking a forest!

Next I spotted some interesting monoliths and headed up -- I found the Tomb of the Unknown Adventurer. I found another of those weird rocks and it, uh, stood up. A stone golem! So that's what those weird boulders were! After the initial 'oh crap' moment, things calmed down a bit and it was a surprisingly leisurely battle. I started off trying to hit the discs with arrows, but quickly swapped to climbing up. I spent a lot time on its butt. XD
I love how when you knock the discs out it can have a 'system failure' and shut down temporarily. The first time it did it it went straight into rage mode. It went into rage mode a second time right before I downed it. It was very dark by then so we regrouped and continued on. We found some more cliffs and a path that seemed to open up into a valley, full of goblins. So we fought them.

Except that it wasn't just goblins.
"A giant!"
"A giant, Arisen!"
Wait, what? What pawns? A GIANT? Can I hear footsteps? Wtf Elseth how did you get up that high I can see your health bar all the way up there--
"Cyclops! Seriously? I just evaded one of those! Now I've walked right into battle with one. This is what I get for fighting in the dark, I guess.
But it wasn't one cyclops. It was two! Fighting at once! With all the goblins!
We fought all night and felled the first one at dawn. The second went down shortly after (I used sleep arrows and they apparently worked). The battle was over just as the sun was coming over the crest and flooding the valley, and I headed down a canyon-path nearby towards the beach.

I found a camp down there and there's heaps of stuff! Loot! <3

After that, though, I turned around and headed into the forest. I found a weird glowing spring and was super-suspicious of it until my pawns ran straight up to it and got healed all the way up. You can fill flasks at it! I didn't have any though, so I'd have to come back later. Got into a fight with some goblins who I assume were also here to heal. It felt like we were at a river in the middle of a dry African plain, and all the animals were coming to drink here and fighting over the resource. We recuperated and moved on.

I soon spotted a chimera off in the distance. I was level 23 by this point, but remembered how much difficulty I had with the other one so I took off up the hill in hopes of avoiding it. I got into a scrap with a huge band of goblins and thought I saw a chimera-tail whip across the screen. No one reacted to anything, though, and after a quick check of the situation I couldn't see anything, so went back to fighting.
I heard wingbeats and Elseth shouted something like "It's airborne! Bring it down!". First thought: Griffin, though I was completely surprised by a flying foe, HERE.
Goblins still swarming around, I turned my camera around again and saw some flapping wings in the trees -- shadowed.
"Griffin!"
On the second wingbeat, I saw that it clearly wasn't a griffin.
"DRAGON!!"

By the time the goblins were dispatched, I realized that it hadn't joined the battle and everything was quiet now. So I had to figure out where it went... It was in the trees still, far back near the cliff wall. It was walking towards me, so I fired an arrow.
We tried to fight it. It was thrilling! After a while I knew we couldn't win and in fact died twice (I saved right before this) so on attempt three we picked a fight with it, stayed just long enough for the pawns to gain knowledge of drakes, then took off. We ran away and luckily it seemed to give up soon after we left Devilfire Grove.

We walked right into more goblins and another cyclops, not far enough away to be comfortable. For the entire battle I kept half my attention on the drake because I was worried that it might come join in. I kept pumping 'Come!' to keep my pawns in a tight formation just in case one of them wandered off towards the drake. It was so close.
After the battle it was still too close for comfort and I lost my nerve, gathered everyone up and we sprinted away. Only to almost get crushed by falling boulders.

We found a ruined building, cleared it out, and stayed there all night. I'd found some flasks and was going to head back to the spring, but wanted to do it in daylight. We set out as soon as it started getting light.
On the way we found that chimera again, just south of the spring. We were level 24 now so I figured, hey, why not -- we should be able to handle it by now.
We were! Killed it without too much trouble.

I filled the flasks at the spring, then decided I needed to head back to the Encampment. It was a huge walk back, but the pawns I'd hired were now nine levels behind and needed to be changed out. On the way, I passed by that spot with the chimera and all the saurians again. There was another chimera, and killed that too. Thing is, it was WAY harder than the other one near the spring. I think it's a few levels above, or something. With that I hit level 25.

That's the end of the day's adventures -- I levelled up ten times, collected a LOT of materials, and made a ridiculous 88,000G (and 17,000 Discipline points each for Arisen and Pawn). A BIG day, and a really good one. x3

But exhausting. :asleep:

I killed five drakes yesterday and hit level 56 doing so. Quickest kill was four (!) minutes (it was 11:18 when the Defeat Your Enemies quest came up, 11:22 when it died). As it died it used that move that knocks out all your pawns, so I was surrounded by lifeless bodies LOL.
No longer afraid of drakes. :frolick:
