Staves and stuff; Equipment recommendations

So we've all (except for Robert2) got another 21,722 gold to spend in the Magnamar Bazaar. John had expressed interest in a staff, so I thought I would post some recommendations.

Rules for staff creation are kinda complex and are available on d20pfsrd.org. A staff has 10 charges, and you can reduce the cost of adding a spell by having it consume more than one charge/cast. Here's a general breakdown:

5th level spell = 36000/charges (so 1 charge/cast = 36000, 2 charges = 18000, etc)
4th level spell = 25600/charges
3rd level spell = 19200/charges
2nd level spell = 12800/charges

The second spell costs 75%, and the third spell is 50%, but you must add the most expensive one first. There are some more factors influencing price that I don't feel like explaining, look them up yourself if you are curious. I've attached an excel sheet that does the math for you if you want to price your own (the dark regions auto-fill, so don't erase them!)

I assume our friend the sorcerer will want to pick spells that he doesn't already have, so let's start with the suggestions! I figure we can finagle some combination of two or three spells depending how we distribute charges.

My suggestion:
Confusion (2 charges)
Slow (2 charges)
Cost = 20,000

Yes but don't forget that in order to re-charge the staff there has to be at least 1 spell in it that the re-charger can cast.

I still have another 14,000 or so to spend from start up. I'm not used to playing at this level. All the shopping just feels wrong somehow.

Ah yes, good point, I've been building staves for my druid and forgot that a staff for John's character would need to include a spell he knew. We should probably include magic missile or scorching ray on each staff.

Yer telling me!

So, just so John has a bit of a menue from which to choose, what might be some cool spells for N.O.'s staff? Perhaps a summon? Perhaps some mobility?

Personally, I like confusion, enervation, slow, or ray of exhaustion combined with either scorching ray or magic missile so he can recharge it.

With regards to the level 1 recharge spell I would definitely choose magic missile over burning hands.

I think that Slow & Confusion are fine spells. I, personally, have always liked Web as I think it can be used creatively in addition to as a combat spell.

Yeah, though a wizard's staff should say something about the wizard.

What about "Staff of the Dragon" with fly, gust of wind, mage armor, darkvision and flaming hands, all apropriately dragon-flavored as wings, eyes, scales, etc.

Well, maybe but John isn't a wizard...
