-What does their name mean?- Deva or devi originally got their name from the people of India where they were mistaken for deites instead of the benevolent supernatural beings they actually are. Scientists have given them the name avia anima or bird spirit. They are also sometimes known as avianya by the creatures of the spirit world. Devas will respond to any of these names simply because they lack a name that they have given themselves. However deva is the most common name used to describe their species. -What is a Deva and why were they created?- Devas haven been commonly mistaken as angels or other winged beings of various religions. However they are more similar to demons in their behavior. They are neither; Devas are reincarnated spirits of lost human souls. All of the souls that were unable to cross over to the afterlife because they either were unable to do something they wanted or needed to do in their previous life. So they are reborn and seek out souls that are either lost or susceptible to losing their way and collecting them. This helps keep the number of lost souls down. The lost souls that are to be reborn are gathered together by whomever is in charge of the Rebirth division of the Office of Death and sent down every half a century during the devas breeding period to start their new existence. Devas are basically superhuman in that they are stronger, faster, heal faster and have enhanced senses than the average human would have. They also have more in common with wild animals than humans do because they are more likely to act animalistic before humanlike. -What do they look like?- Devas can be found on every continent inhabited by humans. They generally have a light complexion despite their various nationalities. Devas are all born with naturally a light grey eyes that are almost white but change color with their contractor's aura color. All devas have light colored hair that can range from white-blond to dirty blonde at the darkest they also have low lights running through it. Some also have a strand that changes with their contract colors eyes. As a species devas have a distinct all-over avian appearance. Obviously they have wings but it extends past that aspect. They are naturally taller than humans. The average height for a deva at adulthood is six feet tall. Their bones are also much lighter and longer than humans making it easier for flight and their agility. They are also more slender than humans making their bodies more streamline and aerodynamic. The most noticeable feature of a deva is their wings. They are most similar to that of giant bird wings. Their wing span is usually twice their height when their wings are fully extended. Their wings are an essential part of their body and can be used as shield when needed. Devas are also capable of "hiding" their wings. It’s more like casting an illusion over them. They seemingly fade from view into markings that resemble a tattoo on their back. These makes change similarly to the deva’s eyes and hair. They have similar identifying marks on their face around their eyes. tl;dr Physical features: - tall (like 6' and up) - slender - skin tone: pale to slightly tan - eyes: naturally a light grey almost white but change color with their contractor's aura color - hair: white blond to dark blond they have a few darker streak going through it and some have a strand that changes with their contract colors eyes - wings: usually the same color as their main hair color - they have distinctive facial marks that are white but change as well with their contract's color -Devas Throughout History- Devas have been around almost as long as humans have been. Originally Devas were mistaken for angels, demons, and various other idols and creatures of different religions and mythologies. In a sense they were revered and treated with respect as well as fear. In those times devas were usually unworried about showing off their wings or nature. However as humans dependency on religious control grew devas were treated with less respect and more fear. Some were even persecuted when they went out in public with their wings out or witnessed using any of their various powers. This caused the deva populations around the world into seclusion and into forming tight-knit colonies throughout the developing world so that they would always have somewhere safe to hide. The issues between the religious groups and the deva species eventually died down in a way and grew in another. This is because as science and technology developed scientists of all kinds took a great interest in the physical nature and supernatural powers of the species. Scientists were able to see the potential devas had to offer human society. The leaders of the major religions were still reluctant to allow extended interactions between the two species let alone integration the scientific world desired. As of right the standard relationship between humans and devas is a tentative one. Devas are allowed within major cities as long as they keep their powers in check. This causes less-lenient devas to rebel and cause more tension. -Powers and Abilities of Devas- Given that devas are all born with wings they have the ability to fly for great distances without tiring. As they grow older they are able to hide their wings within the marking on their back and shoulders. Preening another devas wings or having their wings preened in return is a very important part of deva social behavior because keeping such large wings clean and well-kept is difficult. By having leaner bodies and lighter bones devas are more agile than humans are. Even without their wings devas could probably out-pace and out-maneuver most acrobats. Devas also have a certain level of telepathy that allows them to communicate with other devas and recognized family, friends, and foe. They also form a much more sensitive bond between their contracts that can even allow them to go as far as control them with their mind. Given a deva's immortality they have an enhanced ability to heal major wounds or even not receive them considering how old the deva in particular is. Devas have a unique ability similar to that of a djinn to grant their human contract's greatest desire. However unlike djinn devas do not twist the humans wish. This is probably because this would be their last wish before their death and soul removal. Devas have an innate instinct to seek out lost souls or weak hearted humans and retrieve their souls. They offer the humans in question their greatest desire in return. The actual process of removing the soul is not painful and when it is absorbed by the deva the soul will be at peace until the deva is ready to charter the souls to their proper afterlife. tl;dr Powers: - flight - agility - telepathy - enhanced healing - mind control over the deva's contract's body - wish granting/soul removal Devas Social Interactions |
