How rude of you to assume that anyone on this site had anything to do with DF's downtime.

I didn't think we had anything to do with it, but hey, Narolf is known to be right. I will re-evaluate my life on November... i dunno, 24th? and make sure I did not commit any atrocities. |

Do you somehow think that presenting a different opinion than the one I posses would cause me to have any less respect for you, your ability to form an argument, or your general willingness to speak your mind? Nah. Anyways, I feel like even you, however, haven't fully heard the story about why we have decided we can't work with DF. I actually DID sit down and talk to Mass Zero, and I offered to remove any aspect from our plans that he felt was directly competitive to Dissidia Forums and that we could entirely arrange to run our tournaments at different times. He told me that he would discuss it with his staff and get back to me. Well, he never did get back to me, and I've since seen some things stated by these very staff members regarding the stupidity of this site and everyone here and have seen them openly state that they will never feel any differently about it. I'm sure you would agree that it is a little hard to work with such things. That's to cover that little point. Obviously I don't expect you to take my word for everything I say, so if you wish to see some of the logs I'm referring to I would be happy to deliver, but only in a private session out of respect for those who I was talking with. As for the whole "Dissidia isn't a fighting game" thing, you're absolutely right. I don't play Dissidia and I don't think it's a legitimate fighting game. But, a competitive scene doesn't have to be built around a fighting game. Tetris has a competitive scene. I've seen Pokemon Puzzle League money matches. The fact of the matter is that Dissidia has always had a competitive scene. There is a demand for it. Nothing that you think or I think will ever change that. But, not all competitive communities are made alike. I don't pretend to have any more knowledge of the game than I do. But, I do have knowledge about competitive scenes. I was active in an offline Brawl competitive scene for over a year while it was growing, and I attended a regional tournament for both Brawl and Street Fighter 4. I met the top players and tournament organizers for both games, and meeting Sanford Kelly basically got me enamored with the SFIV scene. Since then I've closely followed the SFIV scene and it's online extensions, as I cannot actually participate in it at this time. It was then that I really began to understand the inner working of a community, and that there needed to be more offered to players then just replays of tournaments that didn't pay. If there was going to be a competitive scene, it should be done right. However, any pushes for change, variety, ideas were feared as some sort of selfish action that would disturb the oh so touchy balance of the forums. The more time I spent on Dissidia Forums the more I began to feel that the site existed not for the community, but solely for the staff. If you want me to go into details about this, again, I'll do it privately. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I feel like I've done everything in my power to a different outcome than the one that occurred. As of late, I've even talked civilly with RDF and Dave, moving forward from the drama that occurred. Both sides have apologized for our faults and expressed the strong urge to leave the drama behind on a personal level. And yet, every one of us understands that so much has been damaged by actions taken from all parties that there is no going forward together. All in all, if there is going to be no competitive scene for this game, I'm fine with that. I don't like the game much. If such a scene is going to exist, why can't it be made to be everything it possibly can be? What's wrong with putting the work in to try and provide the best services to the players? Because we've obviously been busting our asses off since this community started, be it on DF or here. |
