Like so many other meetings of its kind, this one took place in the middle of nowhere. Yardrat was the perfect place for such discretion because of the Yardratians unique skill for teleportation: it meant that a tavern located in the far corner of the desert didn’t run the risk of losing customers due to a lack of roads or accessibility. Unfortunately, for would-be patrons who lacked such skills, it took much more effort to fancy this particular establishment. The Treasurer touched down outside the concrete structure, its massive engines rattling the small bar like an earthquake, despite landing over one hundred yards away. As Glacier entered, the cloaked Changeling found himself on the inside of a dank pit. Wreaking of alcohol and urine, the roadhouse’s patron’s were not the upstanding sort, which made it perfect for business not of an upstanding nature. Glacier’s glowing eyes settled on his mark immediately, and the gargantuan alien moved to the far corner of the room, where his contact had dragged a rickety old table outside the range of the bar’s single light bulb. Taking a seat, the Changeling flier stared into the darkness toward the man across from him. Shrouded within the shadows, three empty glasses sat before the similarly cloaked stranger, with a fourth glass filled with alcohol next to the empties. Unlike Glacier, the stranger had a hood pulled over his face, further concealing his identity amidst the shadows. As the young alien sat down at his table, an arm reached forward, lurking toward the handle of the mug that contained his drink; a hook snared the handle, lifting into the hood, before setting it back upon the table’s surface. ” Nice to see you’re still in good health. ” Glacier snarked, eying the empty glasses. ” Nice to see you still care. ” a raspy voice replied. ” Where are your cronies? ” ” Training. This planet has other values than a hole for you to drown yourself in. ” ” Aaah . . . having them learn the Yardratian secrets. Very smart. Not many space travelers bother with it these days. ” the hook moved the glass back into the shadows. ” Why am I here? ” ” I’d like to think it’s because you missed me. ” Glacier paused, eying the shadowy mass intently. The Changeling’s unique radiating eyes grew with intensity; small sparks of ki crackled, escaping the voids. Finally, the energy subsided as the exiled prince regained control; he rose to leave. ” Sit. I want to discuss plans with you. A strategy. ” ” I thought I told you I didn’t want your help, ” Glacier said, as he remained standing. ” And I thought I told you I’d always be here to aid you in any way I can. ” Glacier paused, examining the situation. He didn’t like it, but he knew whatever information this shadowy figure from his past had would be valuable. Even if he didn’t agree with it, it would be advice worth hearing. ” Alright. Then let’s go back to the ship, we’ll introduce you to the crew, and you can explain your plan to all of us. ” |

Eerie tension filled the silence between the two men, as a violent coldness emanated from the shadows across from Glacier. The two figures stared each other down for minutes, seething with rage; the weight of their words were forcibly chained down by the history they shared. Finally, the shadow broke the silence. ” I think we both know that will cause much more harm than good. ” Glacier, still standing, looked away from the darkness. The hook crept out from the shadows once again, loosely wrangling itself the glass, and withdrew it into the confines of gloom. Retaking his seat, Glacier’s eyes almost illuminated the void. ” Go ahead. ” The glass hit the table, sliding across into Glacier’s spiked gauntlet. The Shade’s hook slammed upon the table’s surface, satisfactorily resting in an almost triumphant fashion. Glacier knew to expect such a display of arrogance – the bastard thought he’d actually won something – and choked down the urge to blast the silhouette through the wall; he had to use what knowledge The Shade possessed. ” Let’s start with this: have you been paying attention to politics, lately? ” . . . ” You’re insane. ” ” It will work. ” ” No, I know it will work – because your plan borders on madness. ” The Shade leant forward, his covered arm exposing itself ever so slightly – pale, almost necrotic flesh covered the arm, with his appendage serving as the anchor point for all three of the hook’s bolts. ” My plan relies on your ability to choke down on that rage of yours for a minute. This is not a coup you’ll be staging tomorrow. This is the long haul. This is you working for what may be years just to get close enough for a shot. But it’s the best damn plan you’ve ever heard for this kind of thing, and you know it. You want Chill dead? This is how you make that happen. ” The Shade withdrew back into the confines of the shadows that masked his appearance, his hook retracting from the surface of the table. ” . . . I don’t know if I can get my men to do it. I just asked them to leave. ” ” Manipulate their loyalties to your father. ” Glacier’s eyes flashed, bolts of energy erupting from both ocular. ” Have you forgotten what happened the last time you mentioned my father!? ” Glacier spat, slowly risking from his seat. ” Not at all. I was just telling you what you needed to hear, even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Forgot? Hah! How many hands do you think I’m willing to let you take from me? ” The Changeling behemoth’s eyes slowly began to calm, but it was clear that The Shade’s presence pushed Glacier to a boiling point even his men had never seen before – any efforts at stoicism were instantly shattered in the presence of this mysterious ally. ” What if I can’t get to Chron in time? I mean, what if this war ends first? ” ” Chron isn’t a necessary part of the plan, he’s just icing. He helps the whole thing come together. Regardless of what happens at this point, the PTO has lost a lot of its men and it’s only losing more. Now, that being said, try and get Chron. You need to make contact with that faction, first. ” |

” Something tells me they don’t let Changelings walk into Capsule Corp. off the street, anymore. ” ” No, probably not. You and your boys need to head back to Frieza. The PTO has an outpost outside the capital they’ve been using as an intelligence station. From what I gather, they’ve found out quite a bit about your new friends. You raid the compound and steal the intel, you not only find your faction, but you come to them as a savior. They’ll welcome you with open arms. ” ” This is sounding . . . How do you know all this? ” The Shade laughed. If he had two hands, he probably would have clapped. ” Suspicious as always. I’m glad to see it. Don’t worry about how I got my information – I’ve my suspicions too – just take solace in knowing that, even after all of these years, there are still some people in the PTO and royal guard who remember a time when loyalty to me meant something. ” The Shade set a small device on the table’s surface, a GPS module. Glacier knew it would possess the coordinates to his destination. Taking it, the Changeling placed the device within his cloak and turned to leave. As he began to walk away, The Shade’s jagged voice called out to him across the bar. ” Glacier, ” Glacier stopped, looking over his shoulder. ” be careful. ” The Shade’s sincerity was not returned. Exiting the tavern, Glacier returned to his ship and flew to where his men were training with Xerash. Landing, the Changeling arrived on a small Yardratian boy jumping up and down, clapping his hands like an idiot. The entire crew looked exhausted, but they greeted him with cheers and smiles. Hex approached, slapping Glacier on the arm. ” Howdy, boss. You got perfect timing. Last o’ us just finishing mastering this technique – and let me tell you, it was a pain in the ass. We’re good to go. You, on the other hand, are going to have a hell of a time figuring out how to make this work. Rettbu teleported himself into a rock about eight times. Marce finally got tired of breaking him out, so we started leaving him there. ” The crew burst into laughter, Glacier eyed the blue clutz. ” It wasn’t funny . . . ” ” Bullshit. Anyway, we’ll be on the ship getting’ some much needed rest. Good luck dealing with this punk. ” Hex pointed a thumb in Xerash’s direction, who was still goofing off, apparently oblivious to Glacier’s presence. As the crew filed into the ship, the Changeling placed a hand on Hex’s shoulder, halting his advance. ” Show me. ” Grinning, Hex stepped back from Glacier’s contact, vanishing into the thin air. Reappearing several feet to his right, the Meguma-jin threw his hands up and laughed. ” Looks easy, right? We thought so. The finer details are pretty hard, though. You’ll be lucky if you figure out how to grasp just the breathing technique by the end of the d—” Glacier suddenly dematerialized into nothingness. Hex couldn’t believe his eyes. Searching desperately for the Changeling’s presence, the Meguma-jin reached into his pouch to retrieve his scouter before he felt a hand once again on his shoulder. Glacier had teleported behind him. ” Evidently, it’s not that tough. ” |
