Gender: Male Height: 4ft Weight: 100 lbs Hair Color: Orange Eye Color: Purple Skin Color: Blue Age: 17 Origin: Australia, Earth
Alignment: Heroic History: Spoiler: click to toggle The Australian jungle was lush and green. Tropical birds flitted about, diving in between the tangled vines in their quest for mates. Small animals rustled in the detritus, undisturbed by the small blue man toiling through the undergrowth.
Chadwick charged up yet another energy disk to slice through the thick vines, sweat running into his eyes. His goal today was a broken down lumber machine, its rusted remains lying untouched in the jungle. As a salvager, Chad was skilled in finding and retrieving machinery. The blue imps of Australia had not willingly chosen their lot as gear heads, but had embraced it nonetheless. When Capsule Corp. had relocated Chadwick's ancestors to Australia, they had not been given a chance to argue. Generations later, Chad followed in his ancestors footsteps. Geared, electric, hydraulic, he worked with them all. How bothersome it was. And now, today, he once again found himself trekking through the jungle to find another machine corpse to break down and bring home.
Of course, today was different. Today, he was a man. Today, he would salvage these sacred parts to prove his manhood, venturing into the deepest darkest recesses of the jungle to find the downed harvester. Today, he would bring back the oil-blood of the machine to bathe in and complete his transformation from boy to man.
Today was very hot, though, and Chad didn't feel like a man. Chad felt like a sweaty lost little boy. He sighed, blasting through yet another vine and scattering a flock of birds. He loathed the jungle, the heat, the day-in day-out monotony of salvaging. His brothers and sisters might revel in it, but Chadwick had never felt so...strongly...about the magic of machines. He had never quite fit in with the rest of his clan. While they relished in retrieving dead machines, Chad preferred to tinker with the holy parts. But that was not his lot in life. At least, not yet. If Chad could complete this final pilgrimage of his boyhood, he could make it to the esteemed rank of gear head and gain the respect of his peers. He could tinker all day long, and never ever ever have to fight his way through the gods-forsaken jungle again. If he could complete this last task it wouldn't matter that he was too tall, or too curious, or not quite the right shade of blue. None of it would matter. All he had to do was bring back the parts, and the anointing oil.
He was surprised when he cleared the last of the vines away and stumbled into the overgrown remains of a city. Around him were the wonders of technology slowly succumbing to nature. Crumbling stone structures were eaten up by the jungle, empty houses strangled by creeping vines, and the shattered remains of machines slowly sunk into the foliage. Chadwick wandered through the remains of the city until he came upon his quarry. Crushed and tangled against a decrepit building, the rusted remains of the lumber machine lay in a twisted heap of metal. Gears, once in neat arrays, sprouted sporadically from the machine, teeth bent or missing. Chad approached carefully, clearing some of the underbrush away.
Underneath the carcass of the machine lay the precious working parts, protected from the environment by the body of the mother machine. Chad crawled underneath the rusty exterior, wishing he wasn't so tall for his kind, and began to pack away the parts in his bag. The true gold came when he pushed away a rotted tree branch to reveal an intact can of oil. The oil for his ritual. Chad carefully strapped the canister onto his back, above the pack, and scurried out from underneath the machine.
He was still patting himself on the back for his excellent find when he realized he was not alone. Standing not ten feet away was a large, huge, terrifyingly big spinosaurus. Blue eyes met yellow across the decrepit street. The pause seemed to last forever, an eternal moment of sheer terror.
With a roar, the spinosaurus broke the moment. It charged forwards towards Chadwick. The imp did not even have a moment to run before the dinosaur was on him. He had only heard tales of dinosaurs, never actually come upon one, and certainly never been eaten by one. There was a first time for everything.
Chad screamed and ducked as giant teeth gnashed at him. They caught the fabric of his backpack, tearing it open and letting its mechanic innards spill all over the ground. Chad screamed again, just as frantic to gather up his scavenged parts as he was to escape the creature before him. Conflict tore at him, and the spinosaurus took full advantage of Chad's inner dilemma. Chad snapped back to reality as a jaw snapped around his arm, biting into his skin and sending blood gushing down his arm. He did the only thing he could think of. He began to beat the dinosaur with the remains of his backpack, grabbing any of the salvage in reach to batter its head until it released him.
The dinosaur let go, reeling from its new head injury. It tramped around shaking its head, obliterating the last of the salvage as it reeled. Chad ran into a building, knowing he would be safer with walls around him until the dinosaur left. He pressed his hand to his arm, and it came away warm and sticky. It took him several minutes before his mind processed the wrong color of the blood, the wrong consistency. No, it wasn't just his blood. It was...oil!
No!
The oil canister had been punctured in the fight. Chad frantically took it off, trying to patch the large gash that had taken the top of the can off. This was his only chance to be accepted, spilling all over the floor of a rotting house in the middle of nowhere. He began to cry. With every ounce of oil leaking away, Chad's future leaked away, too. He had ruined it, messed up the ritual. He would never be accepted. His elders had as good as told him that if he fucked this up, he was done. He had never fit in; now he never would.
Chad sat there in the puddle of oil, lamenting this unfortunate turn of events. Then, he heard it. That spinosaurus, rustling around in the undergrowth, trampling his work underfoot. That stupid spinosaurus. That god-damned, piece of shit spinosaurus. That fucking spinosaurus had ruined everything. Everything. Now, Chad would ruin it.
He felt as though he was in the eye of a storm. Emotion whirled around him, but he remained calm and collected. Chad unbuttoned his oil soaked shirt, button by button, and folded it neatly in a corner. He used his red and yellow checked tie to pull his hair back. He smeared oil on his face, and left handprints on his chest, the way the ancient warrior imps had. As he left the building, Chad spotted the perfect weapon; a gear that was more like a saw blade. He picked it up and went out to face the spinosaurus.
The dinosaur eyed Chad. There was rage in its eyes. There was more rage inside Chad, though, and he felt it warm him like a small fire.
"You," he pointed to the dinosaur. The dinosaur said nothing. Again, there was a pause as their eyes locked.
This time Chad broke the tension, charging the beast with a war cry. He lashed out with his gear, slitting the dinosaur's throat and spilling its blood all over the ground. The spinosaurus gurgled, falling to the ground as the last of its life pumped out of its throat. Chad gave another cry and ripped the dinosaur's head off with his bare hands, holding it above his head. The blood poured onto him. This was his baptism. He would be reborn in the blood of his enemy, and the oil of his people. He was no simple salvager, he was not destined to be another gear in his village. Chad knew his place now. He would forever be between worlds, half warrior, half tech wizard. This was his destiny. This was his inauguration into manhood, alone in the jungle, as he had been alone in life.
The man that returned to the village that night was a far cry from the boy who had set out that morning. Chadwick was covered in a rainbow sheen of dried blood. He carried only two things with him; a gear blade, and the head of a spinosaurus. He dumped both of these in the village square, quietly went to his house and packed his bags. He left that same night, giving no explanation. He didn't need to.
Chadwick was a man now, and he was meant for bigger things. Aura Color: Iridescent
