O.K., don't answer that! I'm thinking of starting a somewhat small "EastEnders DVD train". I posted a message on the old KBDI board and if there are responses, I might include those people. I would send a DVD to one person, they send to person number two, number two sends to three, etc. I don't think I would have anymore than 5-10 people. I would keep Arlie, Mary Ann and Bobbie out of this and send you the episodes as we've already discussed or maybe send 3 DVD's to one of the three of you and if you guys get together you could distribute the DVD's amongst the three of you. I also thought maybe Beth and Gloria could start the chain off for me. If all this happens, I thought maybe everyone involved could send me $6 for six months. $1 a month would be a nice price! This would cover all expenses for Velvet and me and would give me a little cushion (not much), in case there were problems along the way (like a lost DVD). Everyone involved in the train would have to make sure the next person gets the DVD...either by mail or in person. I also thought if this were to happen, I could invite the other people involved to our message board. (I like that idea) While I can't help everyone, I like the idea of helping more people with this. It would involve some work on my end, but in theory, I would only need to copy one DVD and send to either Beth or Gloria. I would of course still copy and send Velvet's DVD back to her. This would not involve the DVD's that we are going to be exchanging in the near future...the marathon, Velvet's specials, etc. Of course none of this would start until Velvet's DVD's catch up with us. Velvet, do you know how many people have been involved in the trains that you were a part of or know about? Let me know your thoughts. |

I dont know how many people really...I think it was a lot though. I would get a padded envelope with 1 dvd in it. It had 2 weeks worth of EE on the dvd, 8 eps. After I watched it, I mailed it in the same envelope given to me. The persons address was assigned to me, and I would always just mail it to that person. I had no idea where it went after that. My problem was the waiting. Some people take a long time to watch their eps. I was always anxious and so looke d forward to it. I finally contacted the moderator and he started mailing them to me directly at $16 a month for 16 eps. which became pricey after 2 years of doing that. I would have kept it up though, but he stopped. |

Personally Scott...being practical and honest here. $1 is just not enough. I know this is not a money making operation, but $1 would not even cover your electricity to make the copies. You are kind-but there is your gas to post them, etc. I am saying this for the strangers you dont know on the board. Obviously you have an established relationship with Arlie and the gang. What you do for mates should be different for strangers. I have never been sold anything for $1-even our club dues are now $4. I'm just trying to protect you. Of course feel free to tell me to stick it. Also...a 6 month commitment might be too much. We dont know what is going on in our lives 6 months from now-maybe 3 months to "try it out". It may be too much work or a head ache. Just my 2 cents dear:) |

Thanks for the feedback Velvet! I might bump it up to $3...I was thinking also that might be a bit low. They would still have to pay the expense of shipping to the next person. One thing that worries me is my DVD burner biting the dust. I had that happen to me before and the one I have now works fine, but it is used. I wouldn't want everyone to finance a new one for me, but it might be a factor down the road. Yes, 3 months is better. I'm going to have to think about this more, before I commit myself...thanks. BTW, the only PBS option I have doesn't air the show.

I think you should be very careful. I haven't seen from other posters on viewer buzz much interest in choosing either to help themselves or to accept the situation and move on. (BTW--You gave very good advice on viewer buzz and on the facebook discussion board.) Recently I have been in the same situation with bringing together a bunch of folks for bridge, and it has been an extreme strain on me. I am only concerned that you not have to deal with demanding and complaining people who want you to do it all for them. Not every EE fan sees beyond their own demand for satisfaction, and those folks may make misery for you. |

^o) Scott, you are just TOO TOO GOOD! What happens if you find a job and don't have time to participate in all this taping for everyone anymore? I thought Mary Ann also had some good input on this matter. If you do start a "train," I would want to be included on it, instead of physically meeting with the Denver people to share -- not that I don't want to meet up with the local people, (I DO!) but sometimes it's easier to mail an item at the P.O. than it is to find the time to meet with people to share on a regular basis. I have a lot of activities planned for everyday and most evenings, as I suspect we all do. [PLEASE don't take offense, Arlie and Mary Ann. We can still meet for lunch, but if Scott wants to start a "train," it really would be easier for me. I stop at the P.O. regularly to mail books to my "BookMooch" people on that free book exchange group I'm in.] Well, now that I've spoken my mind (in writing), I'm reluctant to send this post . . . I don't want to offend anyone or make things more difficult. Scott, maybe you would consider starting the train with just the 6 of us to see how it works out; then you could add other people gradually if it's working. |

Bobbie, I don't think you've offended anyone at all. I know what you're saying. Of course, it would be hard for the three of you to get together EVERY month at a time that would work for all three of you. I'm going to start a new thread under the DVD Exchange topic about all this. The only thing I ask of you is, if/when you get together for lunch or whatever, I expect pictures!!! |

Doing the Train thing is okay w'me ... (I'm completely flexi ... as long as I get to see the eps!) and it's smart of you Scott to think ahead. If your burner is internal on your computer, Scott ... they're really not much ... around $25. When my last one blew, I had my computer dude put two of em in so I had a back up burner. Same labor cost, just an extra $25 for the 2nd burner. It takes them like 5 minutes to do it and they only have to load one set of software. External ones cost more but you can hook 'em up yourself. No geek required (with all love and respect for my computer geek) |

Arlie, I had no idea they were so cheap. I called Best Buy here and they told me about $70. I suppose I could shop on line for one (or two). Luckily I don't need one now. |

I will speak for myself. In the event that something does break down Scott, I would would happy to donate some money towards the cause. Possibly others could put in 5 or 10 bob if the need arises. This is a conversation for a later date. I just mention it so you wont panic if something blows, cause I know I would if people were depending on me ;) |

Heck no, BOBBIE--i'm not offended. What with my physical and health limitations, it's hard for me to get together with folks. i have to plan my activities with an eye to a particular day and how much stamina i have that day. so while i might enjoy a rare coffee get-together, the post is best for me. besides, we live so far apart. i'm okay with your ideas. |
