Are Beth and Gloria still on this Message Board? Scott, do you have e-mail addresses for them? If you do, would you find out if they are still interested? You've made the board so much easier to use now, but it seems that members are writing on it infrequently. |

I think they are still interested in getting the DVD's Bobbie, but were never really interested in the message board. Perhaps we could discuss inviting more people to the message board, but not including them in the DVD exchange. Maybe people who continue to see the show themselves. What does everyone think about that? It would be fun to have a few more in our message board gang. |

Here lies the problem. Some people aren't familiar with boards, and don't do this type of thing. I know I never did. Others just want the shows and don't want any sort of network, whether it's online or anywhere in person. Still others have good intentions, think they will participate, and it never happens because they just get busy. I noticed on another board that they require 100 posts before members have access to certain parts of the board. Anyone can look at some parts, but the main contributors have access to special downloads. This is a very small group, and maybe a decision has to be made about what you all want the group to be. Tape trains can be very impersonal. Is that fine, or do you all want an actual network? You set the requirements and people will only have the option to comply or not. Its as simple as making a few rules. It can be very disheartening to work so hard and feel like you are being "used", whether intentionally or not. |

I think participation will improve once we have all caught up with each other in the series. As i posted the other day, i am having a hard time pacing my viewing of the EE Marathon 20 hours--so i think i will be through them in no time. Ergo, i'm reluctant to discuss what i've seen and know in advance of others. Another point--we are just coming off the holidays. They were a rough time for me, and others may feel as i do--that i'm enjoying more solitude and *uninvolvement* right now. Additionally, as i recall, some of our members have family obligations beyond the usual. They may only have time for reading and keeping up with others' postings right now. I agree with VEL on the time some of us need to get comfortable on board--there is a learning curve for most of us and sometimes a desire to proceed cautiously. Don't despair--give it some time and keep posting your interests. My daughter has a blog connected with her business--it calls for a lot of creative thought and writing. I'm sure she sometimes feels she may be talking to herself online. If you have the time and would enjoy it, SCOTT, maybe you'd have fun adding a bit of blog element to the forum by regularly posting smallish excerpts from your journal, and maybe add one of your great pictures. As for me, i'm not doing something British-related everyday that would be of posting use, especially since i'm also hooked on Scandinavian lit right now and also trying to figure out what a dvr does and doesn't do. I need a mental vacation. HANG IN THERE, SCOTT! Edited by Mary Ann, Jan 9 2011, 06:03 PM.

Well there are only 7 people (that I know of) who even know about this board. Some of us post frequently, some sporadically and some not at all. That's fine. Beth and Gloria are welcome any time ^_^ My point was letting others know about this. I didn't post on Viewer Buzz, because I know many of them would be begging for me to send them DVD's, which I am not willing to do. I was thinking more along the lines of people who have another source for the show, such as their own DVD train, still being able to watch on their local PBS station, etc. I know the North Carolina group still can watch it. I don't know if it would be appropriate for me to post an invitation to our board to them, or not. Perhaps, I could contact the group leader and see what he thinks. I know Velvet knows of some people who are able to watch the show as well, but again I don't want to step on anyone's toes or make anyone think I'm intruding on their existing forms of communicating. My purpose was just to let them know we're here and if they wanted to check us out and post here as well as where they already do, they would be welcome. Make sense? I think it would be nice to have at least 15-20 people who would post at least once in a while....so we would have to publicize it somehow. I don't want to have any requiremnts of someone having to have a minimum number posts or anything like that. The fewer rules the better! Of course, if someone starts getting ugly or insulting, that would be another story. I might have to have a requirement that people have to get my approval before they join, so we can weed out some of the trouble makers. Also, I need to find out how to delete members, just in case anything gets out of hand. Don't worry, you're all safe :D As far as a blog goes Mary Ann, I'm not interested in doing that. I don't know that there is capability to do it on this site, but if anyone else wanted to do it, I could ceretainly provide a link to it. Another thing Mary Ann, I think you all are doing great with figuring out how to use the board!!! If you can't figure out how to post a YouTube video or a picture on line, that doesn't matter. You could always just put a link in your post of anything you want us to look at. And I think everyone should talk about the show, if they so desire. Since there is a separate category for EastEnders 2003, anyone not wanting to know anything can just skip that topic. Also, you can talk about anything M.A.!!!! Doesn't have to be British in nature. You're a very interesting person, and we all love your posts :) I certainly understand everyone has their other obligations and gets busy a lot, so that's fine. Thanks for the ideas so far! I guess the problem is just with people who don't get the episodes then. I am open to what ever you all decide. You can test anything out. If its a total disaster you could always shut the whole thing down, contact us by email, and restart a small private board again. Everything is fixable. Ok, going out on a huge limb here. Look what I found:Amazon Look at the Jan 9th entry...I could feel her pain and I responded-hope I don't regret this. Also...I did some research. There are lots of PBS stations discontinuing EE. Its like an epidemic. The episodes are in high demand. This is hard for me, because I do like to share. I have been so fortunate that people have shared with me over the years. Here's another example:Facebook |
