Do you have any? Have you kept them up? Last year I gave up caffeine. It was not a new years res, but I was trying to eliminate an irregular heartbeat and I started around Apr/May. I did not want to do it at all because I love caffeine and it was such an addiction. After the first 2 weeks it became second nature. The weird heartbeat went away after day 4 and has never returned. I only have one cup of regular PG Tips in the morning and the rest of the day is decaf everything. Because I had the success with the no caffeine last year, I decided to make another choice for good health. So I picked sugar to eliminate out of my diet. I have been a sugar-aholic for so many years its just sad. I like healthy veggie food and get lots of vitamins from having a healthy base, but oh man I "have" to have dessert everyday. Ice Cream, cakes, pastries, and I could go on and on. Its like being a crack addict (not exactly but close). I did not start on Jan. 1st, but I did a few weeks ago and so far its going well-in fact way better than I had anticipated. I'm not going to go off the deep end and worry about every carb that I eat-I'm just going to focus on one manageable thing-no deesert. |

GOOD FOR YOU, VELVET! I could resolve to give up smoking, but that would be cheating, because I've NEVER smoked! (Maybe I should resolve to start smoking!)

Good for you Velvet! Did you have any headaches? I actually don't have much caffeine anymore. Coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day. I've been sneaking in a cup of PG Tips at night lately though. As far as New Years resolutions....not for me. I don't stick to things like that and as far as a particular date goes, it doesn't mean much to me. I admire people who can do it though!

Yes I love water. The problem with me is my diet.

So far the no sugar thing is going very well. A pair of jeans just slid on-I was a bit surprised. Can this be that easy? Scott, any changes in life can be made in very small steps-don't you think? |

Wow, good for you Velvet! Caffeine and sugar are two of my favorites! :-) My mom has given up sugar in the last few months, almost. She hasn't cut it out completely. If she has a big craving she'll have a very small dessert...like a couple bite sized bits of cake and she says that helps her craving. Otherwise she is doing very well with it. I drink caffeine free drinks at night. Any caffeine after 6pm and I can't sleep. I'm a night owl anyway and that extra buzz makes it worse. I don't make resolutions at new years as I never keep them anyway. :-) |

So I am still committed to the no sugar thing and I have gotten really used to it. The advantages I have found so far are: Clothes are fitting better, not tight anymore, and it is easier to give up one thing than to start a whole diet/new eating plan. I think the extra calories of dessert are too much for me now that I am ahem! getting older. Have you guys noticed all the calories posted everywhere? Its on menus and order boards all over the place. Ok so I have been living in the dark. I had no idea what some of the calories are in the foods I have been eating. What an eye opener. A sandwhich I regularly get had almost 1600 calories and the banana nut bread at Starbucks has almost 500 calories for one slice. One of the workers at our local Starbucks said their sales have been down since they started posting the calories. Oh I say!!! (insert fatso emoticon here) |

Great expression! Glad you're getting the hang of it Justine....it's easy once you play around with it. Thanks for the no spoilers. Also glad that you are still able to watch the show. I guess you figured out that the show was yanked from us in Denver.....that's why I'll be sending out episodes here in a few months from Minnesota via California. Now your challenges are getting an avatar, using the emoticons and starting up new threads
