The purpose of this charter is to ensure that no matter how large ETHIC grows and how many different ideas new players bring to the alliance, we will never stray from the founding principles this alliance is created to represent. We want ETHIC to be a democracy, however, we make this charter to ensure that the values the founders instilled will never be lost during growth and future changes.

ETHIC which stands for "Everlasting Truth, Honor, Integrity, and Courage", was created to provide a home for players who are dedicated to both their fellow teammates and the game, valuing sportsman-like, friendly, fun competition and teamwork. ETHIC is an alliance bound by its charter to take the moral high road regardless of the cost. We may not win every battle or every war, but in the end we will be winners by having played with sportsmanship and honor.

PUBLIC RELATIONS:

We believe that being open and honest about our alliance, our dealings and our intentions is a positive thing. We have an open book policy because we have nothing to hide and strive to avoid speculation and suspicion. While we remain transparent, military planning, strategy and troop movements during war are not covered by that policy. Additionally, we do not condone gossip.

MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. All members are expected to conduct themselves with honor and display the highest degree of sportsmanship, friendliness, and fair-play.

  2. Any time you make public statements or actions in circulars, board posts and messages to other players be respectful, it is forbidden to use profanity, vulgar jokes, and hateful or racist remarks. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

  3. Keep things positive and friendly even with our adversaries, do not engage in arguments or insults. Instead, hit them were it counts by pillaging, blockading and destroying their armies. While emotions can get involved and heated, it is important to remember it is just a game; if it is not fun, then something is not right and it is time to step back.

  4. Real life must take priority over the game, but being part of a team and online community means you need to inform the officers when you will be unable to do your assigned duties or participate for long periods of time. If you need to be away from the game for an extended period of time please go into V-Mode instead of letting the account go inactive.

  5. Contribute to the alliance by growing, sharing your knowledge, using your strengths and being active in alliance discussions.

  6. If a conflict arises you required to contribute to the war effort. Protecting your goods responsibly with the necessary means such as hideouts and keeping goods within warehouse safe limits or protected by strong military forces. Use up, sell, or donate goods you can not protect so that they do not fall into enemy hands.

  7. Help other alliance members whenever possible. Provide good trade opportunities and assistance to those smaller than you.

  8. Join and be active in the ETHIC Forum. When possible or necessary, join the IRC chat channel. Its recommended to also be an active participant in the official Ikariam forums.

  9. Stay in touch with ETHIC officers and senate members, keeping them informed of your needs and the ways in which you feel you can benefit the alliance.

  10. Be an active contributing member of your island communities. Leeching will not be tolerated. Strive to be one of the top contributors of donations to your island mills regardless of the amount of workers you employ. Building a strong mill is beneficial for both you and your island neighbors.

  11. Players under 50k are not to be attacked unless they attack you or we are at war with their alliance. Notify a senator or officer if you are engaging in counter attack operations against a player smaller than 50k. Avoid farming players considerably smaller than you except for inactive players, which are fair game regardless of size.

  12. Be mindful of how your actions reflect on the alliance and how they may affect your teammates. Don’t bite off more than you can chew and be prepared to deal with the consequences.

  13. Compliance with Ikariam rules and terms of service is MANDATORY. You are responsible for knowing the rules like no pushing, no bashing, etc. If you are banned for any reason, contact a senate member through the ETHIC forum and give a detailed and honest account of what happened, why you were banned, and any circumstances surrounding it. A Senate hearing will be held to decide if disciplinary actions are warranted.

SENATE:

The role of "leader" is filled by the senate body instead of any single person. This is to avoid needing one person being active and around night and day for the alliance to function smoothly. With a senate body doing the job traditionally performed by a single leader, it allows for a much faster, responsive, and efficient attention to matters.

Major decisions and policy changes are to be made by a three quarters majority (75% or more in favor) vote of the senate. Normal decisions are to be made by a simple majority vote (51% or more in favor) of the senate. Day to day operations and basic decisions will be made by the officer or senator responsible for that area. The Senate has final say in all matters but is bound by the core of the ETHIC Charter which cannot be amended without unanimous vote by the senate. New amendments can be added to the charter by unanimous senate vote but can not conflict with the charter core. Any founding senator can veto new member applications.

Members that violate the above code of conduct, cheat, get banned or consistently fail to meet their responsibilities of ETHIC membership, will be subject to an ETHIC Senate hearing where the majority will vote proper on actions to be taken, evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Actions taken can include warnings, probationary status, or even removal from the alliance.

Any sitting senator can nominate a new senator for a vote that, if passed with three quarters majority, creates a new senator. A unanimous vote by all non-senate members can remove a senator, thus giving the average members power to remove a senator not acting in the best interests of the alliance.
