Something is wrong...

Darek Carnav
Darek stood in the command center on Ilum, waiting for one of his officers to arrive. He had a bad feeling about the operations recently going on on Ilum, mainly because of the fact that three more groups of miners had disappeared. And if that wasn't enough, one of his patrol ships in space had been shot down by some frigate that he strongly suspected, with the description he had received from the flight commander before the ship was shot down, was the work of the Zann Consortium. And if that was true, it was grave news indeed. Since Tyber Zann was killed, the Consortium activities had drastically slowed down, due to the fact that for a while they didn't have any Crime Lord to command them. But he had recently learned that two new Crime Lords had been assigned - Tyber's nephew - Altag, and some nocturnal beast - Azrael Mal'akh. The Consortium had always shown interest for the resources located on Ilum, and if they wanted to take over the planet, Darek would be their first target. He needed to be careful. He sat there, deep in thoughts, until the officer arrived.

Altag Zann
Up on the Merciless, Altag watched as they neared Ilum. Azrael had said that he would come on his own fighter and give the signal for releasing the plants they had discussed before. Altag was pretty sure this plan would work, but had taken precautions just in case - a dozen medium class ships were positioned on the four sides of the planets, cloaking fields active, to help if anything went wrong. Not that Altag didn't trust Azrael, but his uncle had taught him to always be one step ahead of the enemy.

The ship neared the planet. Altag could see the blockade around the planet - it was nothing the Merciless and the ships positioned around it couldn't handle, but the crime lord preferred to do it Azrael's way - he couldn't risk losing ships now.

Darek knew it before it came. One of the watch droids set around the blockade positions reported the arrival of a ship - one that bore the mark of the Zann Consortium. Knowing that it must be The Merciless from the size of ship, he tensed and started to walk around the room. He knew that there was more to it than this - after all, even Altag Zann knew that a lone ship, be it even Tyber Zann's flagship, couldn't take down an entire Imperial Blockade. Wondering what they had planned, he contacted the commander of one of the Imperial Flagship up in space - The Carnivor as they called it, and ordered him to stay in position and activate all the scanners there. Darek had suspicions that Azrael Mal'akh was also involved in this, and he would not take such a direct route for his attack.

Azrael Mal'akh
Azrael stood in the bridge of the Merciless, invisible to the casual observer. He was not attempting stealth, it came naturally to him. Suddenly*, his body tensed. They had just left hyperspace In front of them was Ilum... his time was now.

He loped towards the escape pods, having spent part of the trip memorizing his route. He knew the ship must be cavorting wildly through space as it evaded enemy fire, but thanks to their artificial gravity generator, he felt nothing, and his pace continued unimpeded. He reached his designated pod, and found a subordinate waiting by the adjacent vehicle, ready to eject his plant. They had installed basic AIs in the pods, to allow them to dodge enemy fire as convincingly as possible.

He climbed in, and activated the launching sequence. precisely 30 seconds later, he was in deep space, dodging laser fire while attempting to reach the planet...

*(OOC) I hate that word in RPs. It must be the most overused RP word ever.

And now, my excuse: I keep my RPs in a virtual sticky note on my Mac, and normally they will automatically appear when I log in. However, I recently turned that feature of because I found it annoying. And it had repercussions in my role-playing. :-/

Also, incidentally, I'm experimenting with my text. Now I'm trying it without bold, to make the cool font more visible.

Altag Zann
As he saw Azrael leave, Altag ordered the commander to launch the pods with the plants and open fire on the enemy. He was fully confident in Azrael's abilities, but something felt amiss here. The Imperial Destroyers weren't firing at all, they had just their scanners activated, which worried Altag. How could they have known that somehow Azrael might be involved in this? Perhaps Darek was more informed than Altag had suspected or someone must have warned him. Thinking that there might be a traitor in the midst of the Consortium made the Crime Lord shiver. Hoping that Azrael's ship wouldn't be shot down, he continued watching as a squadron of tie bombers headed their way and was blasted to pieces by one of the ion cannons of The Merciless. That more than anything revived Altag's confidence. He knew that nothing could take down this ship. He stood there and waited for Azrael's sign.

As he had suspected, one of the command ships from the blockade contacted him minutes after telling him that several pods have been launched out of The Merciless and had been sent towards the surface of the planet. Suspecting that Azrael was in the middle of this, he ordered, with his voice trembling, the commanders to hold their fire and send in the Illuminators, a special breed of advanced Tie Fighters not very different from Lord Vader's Tie advanced. They would find Azrael, in whichever pod he was, and destroy him. Darek smiled, knowing that the death of one of the Consortium's Crime Lords would strike a heavy blow on them.

The Commander sent word of the sending of the Illuminators. That more than anything made Darek chuckle - the Consortium had made a big mistake in thinking that he was not ready for this.

Azrael gave a wry chuckle. Those Imperial fools - did they think he would be so ill-prepared? As the advanced Tie Fighters rocketed towards him, he pressed a button in his customized pod... and trebled in speed, along with the other pods. It was unlikely that any of them would be destroyed by the Fighters today, though quite probable that a few would make rather... ungraceful landings.

With any luck, Darek would assume the pods were a diversion. The advanced Tie Fighters helped, he might assume that the objective was to destroy them.

Something was wrong. Why didn't the pods offer any resistance? Could this be a diversion? Darek was confused. He had been sure that Azrael would be in one of the pods. What if that was just a diversion and Azrael was already on the planet, not seen by anyone? He had to be ready. Contacting one of his field commanders, he ordered him to raise the beacon and send a search party to scan the planet. They would not fool Darek Carnav in any way this day.

With a bone-shaking crunch, the pod landed. Azrael, however, was not in it. He had parachuted out while they were in the atmosphere, leaving the Coral of Life in the pod. The modified biological waste scrubbers had had plenty of time to clean all traces of him from the ship, so it would seem just like the others.

Below him, he spotted a scouting party, so he activated the stealth cloaking covering him and the 'chute. He landed silently about a mile behind them, and began making his way towards the command center, while avoiding the patrols.

The pods were down, they had told him - every one of the pods that had come out of the Merciless had been destroyed. Though that was possibly good news, Darek couldn't help but feel something was gravely wrong here. How could they have so easily defeated one of the most clever and resourceful criminals in the galaxy - Azrael Mal'akh? How could he have made such a grave mistake, knowing that the pods would easily be outrun by the better equipped fighters of the Empire?

No, something was definitely wrong. What if he had landed on the planet? No, that could not be possible - he had sent patrols on all four landing positions on the planet. Yet then he reminded himself - did Azrael have or didn't have a cloaking device? Would it not be child's work for him to get to the command center without anyone seeing him, embracing the fact that he had already landed on the planet, bypassing the blockade.

Deep in his thoughts, he was distracted by a call from the leader of one of the scout parties to the north, to the position closest to the Command Center. They had found a ship, one of the pods that had been spotted in space - but there were no traces of any life form in there, save some sort of Coral.

And then it became obvious to Darek. How could he have not thought of that? Azrael was surely on the planet already, using Plants placed in the pods that would be detected as lifeforms by the scanners of the destroyers. Azrael had tricked them good, and was now surely on his way to the command center. But Darek had one more trick up his sleeve - all he needed was a small, rectangular device placed on his desk.
