Konohagakure

Nestled in the forest hills, deep within the Land of Fire, the Konohagakure is speculated to have histories older than any of the Five Great nations, however even those recorded histories speculate that Konoha’s founders began from various other regions, notably including the Land of Wind, prior to settling in the forest areas of the Land of Fire.

Konohagakure is settled in a comfortable climate with four occurring seasons. This allows the residents of the Land of Fire to be primarily a farming culture, producing an astonishing twenty one percent of the world’s grain supply. Even though the Land of Fire is primarily heavily wooded forests, it also boasts as the one of the only nations with a varying landscape of hills, a mountainous border to the north and northeast, coastal borders to the south and east, even grassy and arid borders to the west.

The ninja’s of Konoha emphasize their philosophy of a “Will of Fire” that passes from one generation to the next. The concept of their inheriting Will isn’t unique among ninja given that most ninja’s lifespan is shorter then most, though their method of close mentorship from generation to generation preserves not only the Konoha culture but their values.

From the beginning the Shodaime Hokage emphasized group dynamics through a familial bond between Konoha ninja, residents of the village and even the Hokage. From top to bottom, Shodaime’s philosophy lives on in his own Will of Fire, ranging from the jutsu passed to each Konoha ninja that emphasize combination and flexibility, to the highly effective team structure now employed by all ninja villages.

Those who wish to be future Konoha ninja will find a rigorous program that stresses the team work dynamic but outside of that system, the program typically leaves room for shinobi to focus on the skills of their choice; allowing Konoha ninja to be well rounded or specialized based on their preference in order to compliment their teammates’ and mentors’ skills.

History

Beginning with a Mercantile minded clan leader, who would eventually become the first Fire Daimyo, and a powerful warrior clan leader, who would become the Shodaime Hokage; an alliance was made in order to fund the future Shodaime’s war effort with other clans. At this time, clans not only made war among themselves but rebelled even against the highest and lowest authorities in the land.

Konoha’s curriculum taught and recorded history lauds Shodaime for single handedly ending this period of warring clans and forming the alliances between clans that would become Konohagakure. Although, some say it was the arrival of Rikudo Sennin that ignited this extremely long period of war in the first place; passing along the teachings of chakra and the foundations for all Ninpo techniques.

Through the years, Konoha has served as an experienced hand in the formation of smaller nations and allied villages, as well as serving as a conciliator when an allied nation has problems with one of the Five Great Nations or their allies. Though the Fire Daimyo is a benevolent ruler, his family’s climb to power has been a bloody power struggle, prompting the creation of famous ninja groups such as the Twelve Guardians, who serve to directly guard the Fire Daimyo. The formation of Konoha’s ANBU and their subdivision ROOT was in response to other villages’ similar ninja divisions such as the infamous Hunter-nin of Kirigakure or the tracker ninja of BOLT from Kumogakure.

At their inception, ROOT was used as a shadow ops group, striking proactively against the enemies of Konoha and the Land of Fire in the name of the Hokage without the Hokage’s knowledge. Once Shodaime received word of their existence and activities he immediately disavowed the subdivision’s entire unit and repurposed the unit itself. Afterward, there was a falling out between those that remained disavowed and those still loyal to the Hokage. Since then, ROOT has acted as an elite tier amid the ANBU corps.

ANBU/ROOT

As previously mentioned, ROOT acts as at the elite levels of the ANBU corps; the members of both units are highly trained as special ops guards, reporting directly to the Hokage and village leaders. Their original purpose was as assassins but after their transformation phase, they became a special ops task group for internal matters or high level enemy targets in the Bingo Book.

Members of ANBU/ROOT are jounin level ninja selected for their high mission success statistics and ability to follow orders. Upon entry they are further trained to be vessels only of the Hokage’s will.

As a requisite of their ANBU enlistment, new members are taught one of the following techniques by a designated mentor. Over time they may acquire them all.

Forest Sensor Technique
Rank: C
Type: Ninjutsu
Cost: 500 Chakra
Handseals: 4
Effect: This technique was derived from Senjutsu techniques that utilize natural energy and the effect of the Kekkei Genkai, the doujutsu Byakugan. The user’s vision is altered, using their own Chakra to bounce off of the natural energy contained in each living thing. To be effective, this technique should be used in areas with heavy fauna since only the natural energy of plants can be used for the technique. The user’s vision is now somewhat telescopic, creating a sonar type picture of the surrounding area. The technique’s base range is 25 meters but gains an additional 25 meters to a maximum of 100 meters per 5000 Ninjutsu.
Requirements: 2000 Ninjutsu, 3000 Seishi

Sealed Memory Technique
Rank: B
Type: Genjutsu
Cost: 1000 Chakra
Handseals: 5
Effect: Used for interrogation purposes, the ANBU member will weave the necessary handseals and, while looking into the eyes of the enemy, create false memories for the enemy to experience in order to obtain information, cover or erase an event or ANBU member seen by the enemy, or simply confuse the enemy. The technique’s duration is dependent on the user’s ability to use Genjutsu, which is why there is a requirement for high proficiency with illusionary techniques. At its minimum of 5,000 Genjutsu, the user effects a permanent memory change which is not unlocked by the enemy until they have the same level Seishi as when the user performed the technique on them.
Requirements: 1000 Genjutsu, 3000 Seishi

Five Elements Seal
Rank: A
Type: Fuujinjutsu
Cost: 5000 Chakra
Handseals: 7
Effect: A super “A” rank technique! The Leaf ninja weaves the necessary seals to bind together a chakra disturbing seal that is transferred from the user’s fingertips to the target. The seal does not have to be placed on a certain part of the body but all five finger tips must touch to complete the seal or the seal’s integrity is weak and quite temporary. Assuming the technique was executed properly, the user is able to seal one of the enemy’s stats for up to four turns, after which the seal is dispelled and the enemy is able to perform techniques from the sealed stat properly again. Hardly anyone has the ability to use the reverse to this seal and unseal the technique, which is the Five Elements Unseal technique, even fewer have the capability, talent or strength to make a permanent or longer lasting seal. If they did, their seal would clearly be rated “S” rank.
Requirements: 4000 Ninjutsu, 6000 Seishi
