![]() Michigan, Great like the lakes ![]() The Mackinaw Bridge Spans 5 miles, Connecting the Lower and Upper peninsula's of Michigan. Starting in Mackinac city, and Ending in St. Ignace. Construction started in 1950, Taking 7 years to complete the whole project. This year the Bridge will celebrate its 50th Birthday (November 6th 2007) Many people don't know about Michigan's historic background, And really all we're known for is our Poor Economy. But My state, my home, Is so much more then just an Economic badland. its full of Serene beauty and amazing historical things. From lighthouses, to bridges, To one of the most famous Shipwrecks in History. My home, Michigan, Really deserves more recognition then it gets. ![]() Out of all the Great lake Shipwrecks, The Edmund Fitzgerald is one of the most famous, and Mysterious. On November 9th, 1975, The last radio transmission between the Fitzgerald and the Anderson was recorded.... Anderson: "By the way, Fitzgerald, how are you making out with your problem?" Fitzgerald: "We are holding our own." The Ship, and its 29 crew members, Were never heard from again. The Edmund fitzgerald Sank about 17 miles offthe coast Whitefish point. years later in 1995, The bell was recoverd from the sunken ship, and returned to the surface to be place in the Great lakes Shipwreack museum at Whitefish point, and a new brass bell was put back on the ship, with the names of all 29 crew members engraved on it. Every year on november 9th, a church service is held in Wisconsin, and whitefish point, Where a bell is tolled 29 times, Once for each member of the crew. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=99rOzMVtcx4 - "The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot) The Petoskey stone, our states offical stone. The petosky stone is composed of Fossilized coral. finding this stone on the beach in the city of Petoskey is very rare. ![]() Our state bird, The red breasted Robin ![]() our state flower, the Apple blossom What more can I say about Michigan? well, not much, Its really somthing you need to experience for yourself. So take a trip up to mackinaw island, or visit detroit and visit the Rouge plant. Whatever you do, Dont forget the great beauty and history of my State, Michigan |
