We're all Sonic fans on here... and we all know of Sonic Unleashed. Expect a full review of that after I finish the game. SEGA is a company that seems to consistently find a way to screw over recent Sonic games. Back in the Genesis glory days, Sonic was just what they needed. A mascot to be hip and cool and give Nintendo a run for it's money. The Genesis seems to go on fairly well... Then they try to give it a bunch of add-ons. Which fail. Then they make the Sega Saturn. Which fails. Then they make the Dreamcast. Three strikes, they're out of the console market. SEGA was unable to keep up in the console market, despite starting out so strong in the Genesis era. Now, SEGA makes only games. Most gamers, and even most Sonic fans by now, realize that Sonic's latest games have been... not so great. SEGA keeps digging Sonic's grave deeper and deeper with each mediocre game released. I feel somewhat certain that the ONLY reason they make Sonic games these days is because he's the "mascot" and fans would likely raid SEGA of America's headquarters if they stopped. What I personally find curious is why they make Sonic games so often, when hey have a ton of other IPs they could be using! Jet Set Radio is a great game. It had a good and expansive , fun open-world, and cel-shaded graphics (which were advanced at the time). Yet... aside from the sequel on the Xbox, which came out ages ago, there are no other games in the series that have been made since the original on the Dreamcast. (Well... this one GBA game but... I'm talkin' console here.) Billy Hatcher. A game MADE by Sonic's creator, which was mostly ignored on the Gamecube. Starring a boy in a chicken outfit, rolling around eggs. Inside was a fun and surprisingly deep game. Nothing has surfaced about this boy since his Gamecube adventure except as a minigame in SEGA Superstars (for the PS2 Eyetoy) and as a racer in one of he Sonic Racer games. So it just makes me wonder why they keep pumping out cruddy Sonic games instead of maybe make a good sequel to another series... So SEGA... stop trying to fix Sonic. Stop making cruddy Sonic games (If you're gonna make them, don't add stupid gimmicks so they might actually be good). Maybe make some games for other series. But please SEGA. You've fallen far. Don't fall farther. |

In response to the other series, it's because they aren't super-popular. Not many people were hooked. Those games are like local restaurants - good, but not well-known. And if you think about it, Secret Rings and Unleashed are, at the very least, a step up from 2006 (which I have played). And was it not you, Zoden, that said Sonic with a sword would be epic, when a hardcore Sonic fan would shun the very notion of Sonic wielding a weapon of any sort? |

2006 was balls. Utter balls and anybody who tries to make any good arugement that it wasn't should really get a taste in games.. Only the music is the great thing about Sonic 2006, I love the music and thats the only redeeming quality of Sonic games today. Unleash should have only been running. The Werehog (( Ironically, 'Wer' is a old british word for man, So it's a Man-Hog :/.)) Sonic was great in this game, Running was fun and so was the final boss fight. But the overworld can go away and Werehog is gone now. Hopfully, They release a game about Sonic and Only Sonic vs Doctor Eggman with epic fights in space. Eggman has been given the boot lately and deserves to be more villainly instead of cliche large beast. As for Black Knight, Don't ask for too much. As for me, I'm waiting for a good series to release there next game, Mainly the new Mario game thats in the works. If there is a series with NO bad games expect from other compines, It's Nintendo's Mario,Zelda,Kirby and Metroid. |

See, Nintendo is at the OPPOSITE end of the spectrum. They don't try to fix there games... mostly, they slap a coat of paint on things since the N64 and make it somewhat new and call it a completely new game. Pikmin and the Prime series were the last original things they had, with maybe the improvements to Mario being the exception. Great games! BUT, they don't try to advance he formula... and Star Fox has been downhill since his N64 peak. |

Interesting how you say that Nintendo makes no changes to its system then mention StarFox is getting worse. Uhh, StarFox IS the most rapidly-changing series Nintendo has. In the past three games (Adventures, Assault, and Command), it's gone from hack-and-slash to third-person shooter to strategy. While everyone agrees Command sucked Davidballs, the other two were actually interesting and fairly unique. Not to mention, what do you expect Nintendo to do-- Link in a fighter jet? A Wario (oh, WarioWare's another original bit!) romance sim? As far as fixing their games, you said Nintendo doesn't even try to-- but let's see. Problems with LoZ: Trekking across the map, I suppose. Oh, but wait, they fixed that by adding an 'anytime' warp feature (sup Midna). Problems with......... actually, I don't think I've had a problem with other Nintendo games. Granted, Pokemon rarely tries anything new, but it still works. |

Unfortunately, there is no denying the declining career of our beloved blue blur... However, I have a simple solution to this: Sonic. F**king. Adventure. SA1&2 were absolutely beautiful. Their success easily rivals the origional Genesis trilogy. Why? Simple, fast-paced gameplay. Sure, Emerald shard hunting and mechs weren't the same gameplay we know and love, but they were no less enjoyable because they were well done. Also, storyline. Epic, yet still true to Sonic's unique style. What Sega is tryng to do is fit a square peg in a round hole. Gameplay gimmicks which have nothing to do with speed. Storylines that force the characters into unnatural situations. Maybe they thought "If Mario can do it, so can Sonic!" Unfortunately, Sonic is a one-dimensional concept: Speed. The last great Sonic game was SA2, and I would frankly be happy with a series of games exactly like it. As far as other franchises go...The only other series I ever got into was Phantasy Star Online and NiGHTS. Haven't played the new NiGHTS game, but heard bad things which are making me shy away from it. And as far as Nintendo goes, it's not flawless. For example, Metroid is one of my favorite series...But I really could have lived without Prime 2. Not only did the story have no place in the continuity, but the light/dark world and ammo system was awkward. Prime 3 made up for this in spades...Beautiful game. |

Agreed Zero. While Nintendo isn't flawless, It's damn close, Mario Galaxy is living proof of that. The Second Metroid Game could have been better. While Three and One were gods, Two was obivously the weakest link while still being a pretty good shooter. I'd take Metroid over Halo anyday.... If only Metroid had Halos online then Nintendo would truly be kings. |
