Okay, so recently at school, some girl was trying to convince people that all religions were basically cults and they're bad for the world. Fundamentally, she's horribly, horribly wrong. I've never heard of the Buddhist War, and yes, there ARE tensions between Muslims and Christians. However, that's not because of the religion-- it's because of the people. The Bible preaches what? Love thy neighbor. Prevent him from falling into sin and try to steer him on the right track. NOT kill him if he sins so he goes to hell. What does Islam teach? Love thy neighbor, especially Jews and Christians because we all worship the same God. Don't kill the infidel. Judaism? God is love, and you are His children. Love, brah. Buddhist? Don't be a dick and you'll be a rock star in your next life. Hinduism? ...This is fairly complex and of the five above is probably the most dickish religion, but not absolutely horrible so I still respect it. Granted, each has their flaws ("Homosexuality is bad," which may or may not be supported by the Bible (depending on how it's translated)). But when you guys complain about religion, I have the feeling you're just not getting the point of religion to begin with. |

I've never been against religion.. =w= I myself am Buddhist, and a fairly firm believer of it. Despite the way I act sometimes, I think religion is a way of comparing your morals to those of others, and knowing where you stand, in a way. Without religion, how would we know what right or wrong is in the world? Those "Gods" have told us this. :3 So, I think we agree on this one, Foxby. :3 |

I've no problem with religion. Just the god dang extremists. Personally, I'm Catholic only since my family is... technically. Aside from that, I feel I have no religious affiliation. The doings of God have no true impact on my life at this current time I feel. |

Kind of like how Foxby describes it, in terms of believing in Buddha, as long as you don't kill/rape/maim in your current life, you'll end up in a good spot in your next one. ^w^ |

I make one exception to this list Scientology. No FREAKING WAY that is a real religion. It's a cult. Heck, Pastafarianism has more Religious foundation than Scientology! |

Scientology is a cult, not a religion, which believes strongly in giving L. Ron Hubbard money and killing those who do not believe in it. I do not recognize Cullenism, either. |

Personally I think to each their own. I myself am an altered form of Athiest. Heck you could call it athiest/buhddist/Ahmish? Heres a quick breakdown. Joey and I talked about this a while ago. I belive that being a generally good person and physical labor will earn you your right into Nirvana. If you work hard in life and give an honest effort while also being a kind person, you will achive what every person in this world should. There are no gods, there is no higher being than yourself. When you die, your physical body will be buried or cremated (however you wish), whilst your spirit or mind will enter a constant dream state. Where you are free to do as your wish. A well earned rest from the tireless efforts of a tough life. And thats about it. |

That's pretty much Buddhism minus the reincarnation bit. It's also a form of "Theism"-- basically people that believe that there IS something after death (dream-state for you), and MAYBE a god, but not really going for any established religion. |

I'm Jewish, and I'm very proud of my heritage-working on gettng a bar mitzvah in the next month. I respect other religions, and I'm intrigued in some of the more mystical aspects of them. However, it's the freaking zealots who take the award for most insane interpritation of (insert religious text here.) That being said, I have varying ideas on what god is, or if there is one. But, I'm Jewish, proud, and sticking to it. |

I see your point, Religion isn't all that bad if you wind down to it, It's just telling us to be nice to our neighbours and basically try to be overall a better person. I can see it's intention to transform humanity. However, The problem is that some humans don't reconize religion as a moral lesson but more troublesome. The reason why religion gets it's bad rep is because of extremeist who is willing to blow themselves up for an idea of peace. love and freedom... missing the message much? Anyways, I don't know much about the Muslim Qu'ran however, I highly suspect that there is something in there about loving your fellow man. The extremist are the one who makes religion look as bad as it does. Not the concept. Now, Do I believe in religion. No, I don't think Noah built his Ark or Jonah was eaten by a whale or Jesus could feed hundreds of people with a fish and a loaf of bread. It's just stories to demostrate how to live your life in the example of the text. Perhaps, If people started viewing the bible as a story rather then actual events... Probably Humans would be better creatures at the end of it all. |

It's really not the problem that people believe that they're real (*waves "I do!" flag*), but rather, that they manipulate it for their own needs. But yes, Islam pretty much teaches "Love, also go to Mecca once in your life." |

Thought so, Whats even funnier is back during the dark ages or before. Preist would get compatsated for reserving a spot in heaven for people and usual payments would give them a better chance ,bullcrap for two reasons 1: Man doesn't control who gets into heaven expect based on his own morals and actiond in life, not wealth 2: The bible doesn't say paying your local preist will give you a one way trip to the holy world. Here is some extra proof that even the people who work to make religion better exploits it for there own ideals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Qaeda Why disobey Allah for everybody can worship and obey Allah? Makes sense right? |
