HAT OF HAPPINESS!!!

This is simply a collecting of my thoughts. You don't like what I say? Counter-point me. Go ahead, I don't mind. This is just me getting my thoughts out. Now then... These days, life moves too fast. I think everyone has had that feeling before where there just aren't enough hours in the day. I blame part of this on today's Modern Technology, including the magical Internet. Now, I love today's tech. Can't imagine living without it. But I hate what it has done: Put a rush on life. Tech has allowed people to do more things in less time than ever before! That huge essay you need to research? No more hours in the library combing over books, just use the net! Need to get a message out? E-mail, Fax, take your pick. The problem with all of this increased productivity? We haven't adjusted our life to it correctly. We (I'm speaking from an American perspective. Yours, American or not, may differ) focus too much on work. We spend all of our time working. The beauty of tech? You can get what would've been a days work done faster! So now go do more work. And more. And MORE. Work just keeps getting piled on, along with all the other social events and things in your life. It can feel like your life is get up, go to school, go to a job, do homework, and sleep because it's too late. Where's the time for fun? Why can't things be like in the past? At least back then things didn't feel like they were in such a rush. Even the 90's seemed calmer than today. These days, there's little to no time to stop and smell the roses. I've heard that in Europe, they don't have nearly as long work days. Seems to me like they know how to chill out a bit more. ______________ Another problem with today? Big Business. I know I've brought that up before but it relates to the above ranting. America became so concerned about it's Big Business that now it's all we are about. It feels like the government is trying to help big business out more than the people itself sometimes. Those super huge bailouts? Where do you think they will get that money?! Answer: The people. And Big Business has pushed the consumers that put them where they are to the side. What's that? One cashier was a little rude? Well, you aren't gonna sue so who cares. A defective item? Just throw it back on the shelf. Eventually one person will just keep it and buy another good one. They no longer concern themselves with the problems of the little men who made them who they are. Wal-Mart has been reported to have poor customer service at time, reusing defective items, treating those they employ like crud, and from what I saw on a documentary (so sorry if I'm wrong on this), getting those super cheap prices by getting all the products from workshops in China that pay the workers little as they work long hours in terrible conditions. Workshops not caring about the workers, just the money. I doubt Wal-Mart would change a thing unless there was a massive boycott. But that won't happen. Reason? Cheap price. Everyone just goes for the cheap prices so they can save some money. Welcome to America today. Where the dollar is the biggest power of all. What happened to Mom and Pop shops? Those shops that showed the colors and spice of a community? That made every town feel a little special, and different? The ones that could care about each customer? Instead, every town has a Wal-Mart and a McDonalds. Just... why can't we have a little slice of the past mixed in with the technology of today, a society that appreciates work as much as relaxing? Wouldn't that be more ideal? Sorry if my ranting got a little... topic jumpy in there besides for that line. But... what do you think? |

Note to self: Do not write long response in a thunderstorm. Mom and Pop shops are still around, but they only exist in the restaurant and hobby shop varieties. Wal-Mart gets its supplies from the same places as most other people; the difference is, they can buy (and thus, sell) for cheaper. They can bully the manufacturer for cheaper prices because they make up such a big part of their business; if they stopped buying, it would be a big hit. Thankfully, however, Wal-Mart is getting increasingly negative press and the public knows more and more about their general suckfest (South Park ripped it pretty hard). |

Look at the Capitalistic system now. The great America complains and bitches about soicalism and how 'evil' it is while they don't notice the nice men who sell the cokes and shoes are quietly building a golf course behind their houses instead of using their money to help others. Sometime or another, Major corporations will rise from the soil of a young Capitalistic socity. America has major corporations like this. A sterotypical America in some countries eyes is that there are advertisments on every wall advertising American products. The entire system is based on competing for the most money and most sucess because it'll... give you more money and more sucess? The reason why your 'pop shops' don't exist is because this isn't the 1800, it's the 21st century. If somebody tried to compete with Mcdonalds for fast food, Micky-Dees would probably run you outta bussiness before you know it. Technology has given these giants a huge advantage on smaller bussinesses because they have the millions to throw out and buy the latest stuff out. Technology is mandotory to compete in the markets these days and without more work hours, You may not be able to beat out the next restarant or store. CEOs who get there money, they can buy everything they want, but the money keeps on building. Soon, being rich means buying two more cars and probably never use them. America, uses a trickle down type of econmics. Basically, all the money goes to the top, and it gets passed down to the bottom by the top dogs and so on. Both Soicalism and Captialism are very flawed in the sense because you either choose the person giving out the money to be goverment officals or the CEOs. I personally am a Soicalist, but I don't even like that much either, at least it's somebody I elected giving me my money out. Captialism sucks, Soicalism Sucks... Both needs to be combined if America wants to save her Superpower status... A quick fact, The nations with Captialist and Soicalist Systems are actually doing the best in this recession. Canada, Norway and Sweden are prime examples. |

I'm what's called a "Libertarian Socialist," actually; basically, a Socialist that believes in a bit more personal freedoms. Basically basically, a Capitalist who believes in a very awesome safety net. xP |

I knew there was a reason I had more national pride for Canada than for the US. US might've been good getting us to democracy, but it's capitalism is what now needs replacing. |

The thing is, each economic system can be screwed over if the people living under it... screw it over. Capitalism is great in theory, as are Socialism and Communism. It's just that people are fuck-ups. Granted, it's a select few that are fuck-ups (I'm on the Rousseau Was Right side), but they're in prominent enough positions that it's capable of ruining the entire thing. |

Yep. The problem is, we can't exactly MAKE those people stop screwing the whole thing over. |

We can make them stop it from COMPLETELY and TOTALLY screwing us over (laws against monopolies, for example), but there's no law against the smaller infractions... but so many of these small things are adding up. x.x |

Yeah, Foxby is right about that. Communism is a great system but humans aren't really all that into sharing there shit. No matter what people says or do, A lot of humans care about themselves and really they don't want to give there comrads there car for the night and thats why Communism doesn't work. To be frank, The U.S is very right in the political spectrum. Usually, the left and right never get along. Like the Soviets before them, If they don't do something soon, They'll probably fall under like the USSR did. They need to become more centered to work, Abolishing captialism all together is a BAD BAD BAD idea. |
