I don't wanna cause any trouble-just want to say this.

Foxby. I'd like to correct you. There WERE children in the concentration camps. I have books and a few stories from survivors to confirm that. If it was just a mistake in information or something, that's fine-it's easily corrected. But the way you said it, so matter-of-factly, was just ignorant and rude. Try to avoid that in the future. Next time you wanna say something like that, make sure you got it right, ok?

But there were no eight-year-old children in Auschwitz. That part is NOT a mistake. To pass even the first selection, you had to be able to pass for around eighteen (plenty lied, but I doubt an eight-year-old would pass through).

Yes, there WERE concentration camps with children in them-- including one almost EXCLUSIVELY devoted to them. There were also pipels-- young boys chosen for being pretty-- that were trafficed amongst the homosexuals, but also not in Auschwitz (I think it was Buna?).

I was mostly pointing out how inaccurate "The Boy in Striped Pyjamas" is; it features a lot of very nice conditions for Auschwitz, including allowing said eight-year-old to sit over by a pile of rocks and talk to a German for hours.

Note: No age is mentioned in that article.

But thank you, it sounds a lot like people are getting fairly hostile toward what seems to be about to head straight to semantics ("How small is too small to work?"). It's not that I "didn't do my research," it seems a lot more like someone was misinformed. I've read at least three survivor accounts, many of which mentioned that people who did not pass the selection-- the old, many of the female, and any boy who was too small to work-- usually the cutoff age seemed to be around twelve (though tall ten-year-olds worked). There is also the issue of the eight-year-old boy (who was in the camp for a while, as well, and was possibly even smaller when he entered) being able to sit and ignore his work for hours a day-- the point was that the book/movie is highly inaccurate and shows a very much "nicer" concentration camp than Auschwitz actually is.

I MET SURVIVORS. One was around the 10-15 range when he went into the camp, and he saw some kids around the age of 8-11 working there.

Which camp? If it's not Auschwitz, it's not relevant.

...oh yeah, Foxby. Cause no other concentration camps were important aside from Auschwitz. And I'm pretty sure it was either Auschwitz or Dachau. Was in middle school when I met the survivors.

I never said other concentration camps weren't important, they're just not relevant to the topic at hand. Which is:

Were there small eight-year-old boys in Auschwitz that were allowed to sit around and play checkers with German boys?

My answer is no; the SS was far too strict to even allow them to sit or stray from their workplace to begin with.

That wasn't what I was bringing up in the first place, though. I even said if you were mistaken that was fine. I'm aggrivated with your tone about all this-it's pretty rude. The topic wasn't the kids in auschwitz. It was the way you talked about them and the holocaust itself.

I'm sorry I relayed information I believe to be true without a hint of self-doubt. I will refrain from doing so in the future... or will I? I'm not sure...

Or was it how I called out a historical fiction book for portraying the Holocaust as something that really wasn't too bad?

Or perhaps ruder still how I made an entire new topic about the issue instead of correcting it in the original topic or consulting you about it directly in a messenger instead, thus keeping it out of the public eye and, if any major mistaken information was indeed there, saving you the humiliation?

Wait, one of those wasn't me...
