HAT OF HAPPINESS!!!

Okay, I'm just going to say this here. (This is supposed to be from the view of an uninformed american. All cases of Did Not Do the Research are intentional) We need a better President. First, how we got Obama. 1. Lesser of two evils. And I don't mean Obama and McCain. I just mean Biden vs Palin. Palin was portrayed as a moron Alaskan redneck. Hell, she used the word "mavericky". Biden seemed to stay out of the spotlight, but as they say, sometimes no news is good news. So Biden was a better choice than Palin. 2. We wanted to be nice. We saw Obama. He was black. We all decided, "if we elect a black guy, it will prove how good our generation is!". We wanted to be nice. Hence, Obama got elected. Now, here's the issues. People are complaining that Obama, "isn't getting anything done" or "not doing enough". While I understand this is mainly because Republicans and Democrats want to flame war in Congress more than Sony and Xbox fanboys, it still shows the number one thing we need: A President that gets shit done. I don't care if it's a man, woman, Christian, Buddhist, black, white, Asian decent, straight, or gay. So long as they get stuff done. As long as they do that, little else matters. Hell, Bill Clinton cheated on his wife in office. And yet, he's Embassy of the U.N. to Haiti. All was forgiven (mostly). Why? Because he got shit done while in office. Did what needed to be done (and by that, I don't mean spending trillions or billions and such in bailouts.) So Bill Clinton is one of the more popular presidents of late. Meanwhile, one "BYAAAAAAAH!!!" and a media shitstorm later, Howard Dean's political career is destroyed. So yeah. We just need a president that gets stuff done. If you want to disagree and prove me wrong with things I didn't bother checking, such as facts, please go ahead. Trying to make some discussion here. But this was simply on my mind. |

Actually, the only things I hear are "Obama isn't doing anything" and "OBAMA IS DESTROYING AMERICA." Both opinions are from Fox News. Often both views come from the same person. |

While I agree, we have to remember that this is Obama's first year in office. Most people forget that he still has another three years to get things done. He said that "Change won't come quickly" which is true, You can't simply shake the foundations of goverment in the first year of office and fix one of the worst depressions since the stock market crash of '29, A debt close to 12 trillion, two majors wars, a healthcare system in shambles and a country in upheavel. Even Jesus Christ would have a hard problem fixing the country this deep in the hole. I do agree that Obama can be tougher though, The Republicans have been very irresponsible and very aggressive when dealing with Obama, while he reaches his hand out to cooperation and understanding, The GOP punches him in the face and spits crap about him. Obama just takes it though, which is admirable, but very stupid in the long run. Politics, as much as people may say it isn't, is also about how dirty your willing to get your hands to defeat your enemies, It's about giving a dirty punch to cripple the opposion. Obama has just started to take a more agressive stance on the GOP, but it's probably too late since they lost their senate super majority with the senate seat loss in fucking blue-as-hell-state Massachusetts to the guy who owns a truck. Of course, We must look at history as well. Lets take a well known President named John Fitzgerald Kennedy. His first year in office was a disaster. There was the Bay of Pigs, a tough summit with Khrushchev when he seemed weak, and the construction of the Berlin Wall, which lost America credibility world wide. This alone basically proves that Kennedy was, at first, a weak president... But that changed as he learned to adapt to his job and how to handle himself. Sure, Obama has made his share of mistakes, but this is the first year of his Presidency... We still have another three years left of Obama's Adminastration... We gave George W. Bush 8 years, Let's give Obama at least 4. |

Admittedly, Obama does get a bit of slack since he needs time to adjust. But, he's now had a year. I want some improvement from here on out. I don't care about Democrats. I don't care about Republicans/GOP. I want results. Otherwise, I will be rather irritated when one day I'm paying taxes from the small income I get from the job I was able to get by the grace of God in the terrible economy, only to see them be used to do absolutely nothing. I'd rather wait for America to pull its head out of its ass before giving the Government my money if I had the choice... but no dice. |

This is why we need Colbert. His on-camera personality would be great to defuse situations like this during his presidency. XD |

Serious dicussion is Serious, L. It would probably make it worse. Colbert is a funny man, a parody of the Fox Pundits... People would accuse him of not taking his job too seriously. I can't say that Colbert would run the country like his Persona, I mean, I'd LOVE to see him being the job for lulz, but he'd probably flop as a president. As for the results, It's kind of hard to get things done when the opposite side won't listen or even consider working with the President and oppose him for the sole reason of opposing and becoming a stronger party, and not doing whats best for the people like the role of Goverment was designed to do. I know Obama knows what he's doing, It's just that the GOP is filled with extremeist and the extremeist are the ones who yell the loudest. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid has even commented that there is no, if I quote correctly " more to little moderate Republicans in the goverment." |

To be honest, I think Colbert and Stewart would make pretty dang good Prezzies/Vice Prezzies. Their job is to point out other people's fuck-ups and make sure that when somebody does something obviously stupid, they're called on it. If they were in office, said callings-out would be preventing the stupid from happening to begin with. Not to say they'd definitely be completely error-free, but... |

Personally, I have to say: America. Is. Effed. It's only a matter of time before America splits or something, much like the USSR did. We have tons of money being used on wars where we do nothing, tons of money being used to campaign instead of get shit done, and big business? Complaining about how the government keeps messing with them and restricting them, begging the government to save them, and slowly taking control of the government albeit indirectly for now. The only thing holding up America is a feeling of we are democratic and democratic governments must be good and a sense of not wanting to split. However, looking at it all, America seems on its last ropes, we keep spending what we don't have, systems are failing, and government has become more about beating the other team than helping the people, so nothing gets done to help. So I see America eventually either becoming a land directly ruled by businesses, I see it dissolving into more of states as countries, or I see China taking control (since it's you know: Effing Rich and Big.) Comments? I know this view is pessimistic and we've gotten out of stuff before, but I feel that with how much it's become complicated there's a chance we WON'T get out of this one. As they say, all empires (even the democracy we use that's allowing our government to go nowhere) must come to an end. EDIT: Also, since US dollars are based on the promise of the government and not something physical such as gold, if the USA goes under, our US dollars have little to no worth as far as I can tell... |

Zombie apocalypse. Don't forget that. If we get split, I want a province. If we're ruled by businesses, I'll work for Funimation. And if we're ruled by China, I'll enjoy the food. |

Serious Dicussion is Serious L. Anyways, Zoden, There is a large difference between the Soviet Union and America and if America falls, it won't be the same as the USSR's Collasp.. But America won't be another USSR., I'm going assume that America will recover from this, mainly because of it's sole superpower status on the world, China can be as rich as it wants, but it's still far FAR behind America in other terms. Speaking of China, America won't be conquered by China, because if America collasped, then China would also. America's Econmeny and China's econmeny are closely interwined, And if something hurts America, China gets hurt also, And China isn't "powerful" enough to defeat America. America had immense power back in the 70s and they still couldn't take Vietnam from the Communist. Also, China doesn't have a resources to take America, NATO is one, America's massive military power is another, and even if China tries to attack, they'll lose tons of money and land because not only is it impossible, but America has bases all around China, ready to operate plans and bring it down.. If your talking about econmic takeover, then I also disagree, America is still bigger then China econmeny wise, and will be for another 40 years if this keeps up, China is just growing very very fast... You actually doubt America's power. If America is going to fall, It'll because of that law the Supreme Court passed, letting the corporations be reconized as citizens, This means they now can infulence the tide of the election more drastically then before. The United Corprate States of America... Sounds scary right? I agree when you say " All empires must come to a end." But is it really the end? America isn't even a empire 'well, unoffically a empire.' People probably thought the Great Depression was the end of America's rising power, But it really wasn't... America isn't Rome, But it's close. America will contuine it's domince in world affairs for quite sometime. Sorry if my post sucks, I'm busy with other stuff. |

No Joey, I like your points. Honestly, I think the business thing likely WILL end up happening. Of course it'd happen through very gradual political influence. First, sponsoring candidates grows more prevalent and the influence they have over those candidates grows. Perhaps after enough time, the corporations themselves would have representatives run for election. However, I don't see a splitting of America until somehow a corporation manages to secure a military power... |
