HAT OF HAPPINESS!!!

I love the net. We can keep up with our favorite games so much with them. Hell, sometimes it's how we learn about new games we would've never been interested in otherwise.

But the proliferation of the net has cause something terrible to me:

Spoiler Inevitability

I have purposefully been staying away from YT so as not to accidentally spoil FF13. I've only looked up the music... sadly, I've still had two things spoiled for me (Note, I will not spoil the specific details to you, don't worry.)

1. On YT, somebody mentioned Lightning's Real Name.
2. My Loudmouth (Read: Does not have Indoor Voice) pal let slip some knowledge that may have been intended as an important surprise in the game. I'm not sure if it's super important or not but it feels like it to me and he's pissed me off by letting it slip.

But it's not just limited to FF13. Let's be honest: When was the last time you played a game with absolutely NOTHING getting spoiled for you?

I haven't been able to do that since The World Ends With You was first released.

Hell, I'm not sure how long a gap it was between TWEWY and whatever the last non-spoiled game I played.

But seriously, this problem pisses me off. You'd think jackasses would know better than to post info on spoilers just a week after a game has been out on places like YT where we get no warning. I'd understand if the game has been out for like... 6 Months. By that time it's common knowledge. But spoiling happens far too often too fast.

I've often said I was rather indifferent to LoZ: OoT. My guess is because it was spoiled by the time I played it. (Years after release...) I knew Zelda was Sheik. I knew who the Sages were. But... maybe because I knew that it didn't affect me as much as others?

Playing a game without being spoiled is a special thing. How many people were shocked or truly surprised when Aeris died in FF7? It was (likely) something that really hit you hard. Now, if you try to play FF7 for the first time today, it lacks impact. You know what happens. Aeris dies. Cloud thinks he's Zack. Sure, you can go along with the ride but it lacks the magic of a normal playthrough.

So what does everyone else think about spoilers being too common these days?
1. NO SPOILERS OR I SWEAR TO GOD...
2. What was the last game you played that wasn't Spoiled?
3. Did a game end up being less impactful to you because of spoilers?

Let's see...

When the Edgeworth game came out, I tended to avoid deviantART until I finished (Vintage got screwed on this one-- someone spoiled something big for her on Tegaki-E).

I've gotten pretty good at avoiding spoilers, actually... last game I managed to go through without spoilers is Edgeworth, I think, which is the second-last new game I got. The newest is HeartGold, and uh. Yeah. I kinda know how this one goes.

ROSEBUD WAS THE SLED!

And actually, the last game I played that wasn't spoiled? Not sure. Games I'm playing, I'd say Tales of Phantasia and Devil Survivor.

And the last game I got spoiled on, which I saw myself since I was curious (XD) was Dawn of Sorrow, which, oddly, did NOT impact the game. I still loved it.

To me, if I get spoiled...meh. I'll paraphrase Alfred Hitchock in saying there's no terror or excitement in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.

last time something wasn't spoiled for me? Around Christmas .3. I tend not to talk to people who own games I've gotten and avoid looking up related stuff until I've become bored with it or I know what's going to happen .3.

I spoil games for myself, but at the same time it doesn't bug me because usually when a game is spoiled, it's done pretty poorly, so I still figure out stuff even at the point that was spoiled. XD

Although the only games I really spoil for myself are games I know I won't play, games I've finished and didn't understand something, games with secrets I don't feel like unlocking myself, and pokémon games. If I do play a game I've read about, I usually forget everything spoiled or make connections I know I would've been utterly confused about had I not spoiled it, and so I actually get more satisfaction making that connection. XD

Spoilers FTW!
