//It's said that at the end of every age, the world returns to the gods. The world was made by the gods, so it's only natural to assume that it would return to them upon its end. And with the end of the current age fast approaching, many are hopeful at the prospect of returning to the gods.// The world of Mundus is a world of wonder. In the beginning, the universe was empty and void. But out of the emptiness, out of the silent expanse, the gods created an entire world. But these gods could not leave their own world. Where the universe of Mundus was a tranquil and empty space at the beginning, the world of the gods was primordial chaos. But they were not displeased at not being able to be among the fruits of their labor. The spark of divinity that had created everything in the universe, including the stars and planets, also created life. And that life sprang forth on a planet that served as the namesake for the universe. The planet of Mundus, a special planet, the first creation of the gods. This life grew and advanced, moving from lowly beasts to beings of great magnificence. Several of these beings grouped together as one, creating large empires and waging great wars, discovering the marvels of magic and science all along the way. And the gods watched this with joy at the sight of their creation. ||But what if all is not as it seems? What if the gods are false? What if the end... is merely the beginning?|| But through time, the gods began to grow restless with their situation. They wanted to become a part of the world they had made. And several beings in that world yearned to be united with the gods. And so the gods made a plan. And they shared that plan with some of their most devoted creations. This plan was for the day when all would be united, the gap between universes dissolved, and the gods and their creation coming together as one. That day, is Eschaton. It is the end, the end of two separate universes, and the beginning of a united one. To that end, the gods created one more thing. Genesis: the incarnation of the gods, and their gateway to Mundus. But Genesis too, was unable to travel immediately to Mundus. And so the gods steered a series of events to summon Genesis. That summoning, is the Reckoning. In order to start the Reckoning, in order to come to Eschaton, the gods needed servants. And so the gods bestowed the gifts of their divinity upon 9. But that was not enough. So they bestowed their gifts upon 9 more. And another 9, and 9 more, and yet 9 more. 9 people to a group, 5 groups, 45 chosen. \\9545. Why is that number so important? 9 roles, 5 groups, 45 people. 9545. All to lead to the Reckoning. All for Eschaton.\\ The gods chose 9 roles, 1 for each of the 9 they had chosen for the 5 groups they had made. The first, The Nexus, one who brings the group together and dreams of the gods. The second, The Prophet, one to and through whom the gods speak to. The third, The Knight, defender and protector of the group. The fourth, The Monarch, leader of the group and the one who will bring them into the Reckoning. The fifth, The Seer, gifted with the sight of past, present, and future. The sixth, The Reaper, gathering the essence of fallen foes to strengthen the group. The seventh, Physician, keeping the group able to complete the tasks set before them. The eighth, The Cartographer, plotting the path that they should take. The ninth, The Tyrant, rousing the group to victory whether they wish to or not. 5 of these groups work together, working towards the Reckoning. The first, Sacrificial, giving their lives over the quest so the others can complete it. The second, Guardians, protecting the other groups until such a time as they can complete the quest. The third, Berserkers, tearing through the obstacles set before them to give the others a fighting chance. The fourth, Inheritors, opening up the paths only accessible by them so that the gods may come. The fifth, Chosen Ones, fated to start the Reckoning, start Eschaton, and receive reward from the gods. <But that isn't the whole story. No, something's missing. And it doesn't come to mind. The gods haven't come. And it's said that at the end of every age, the world returns to the gods...> |

Enough with the delays! Time to set the, er... setting. The World of Mundus is currently in the 9th Cycle, 5th Year, 4th Season, 5th Week, 108th Day. It is on this day that your characters find themselves in the midst of the Grand Convergence. The Grand Convergence is a plot hatched by the Gods of the Beyond, the ones who created the World of Mundus. The Convergence is helped along by a large and influential group within the world. That group is known as the True Root. Somehow, their leadership is in contact with the gods, and has worked with them to bring about the end of the world as a single unit and the beginning of a merged world through the summoning of the incarnate deity, Genesis. But the gods do not put their full trust in the True Root. To that end, they have chosen 45 champions, each in groups of 9 to carry out their will. Their task is to ensure the summoning of Genesis on Eschaton, the end of the world and the fulfillment of the Grand Convergence. Your characters can either act as part of the 45 champions, part of a subversive group within the True Root who want to prevent Eschaton, part of the many groups (TBA) which seek to manipulate the champions and bring about Eschaton on their own terms, or act solely for their own purposes exploiting the world of Mundus for whatever reasons they have. The end of the world is fast approaching. It will occur at the beginning of the 10th Cycle, which is the very day after 9th Cycle, 5th Year, 4th Season, 5th Week, 199th Day. Will you help bring it about, impede it's fulfillment, or use it to your own purposes? The world of Mundus is open to you. The choices are infinite, the possibilities endless. The Day is nigh. Choose your own fate. |

Alright, that's the setting for Mundus. Now for the explanation for why a bunch of Travelers would even be interested in what is otherwise a complete backwater universe. There's a rumor that's been flying around the main hubs of travel that the Mundus universe is the source of a large cache of powerful artifacts and magic texts. That alone isn't much, a lot of universes have rumors about that, but what sets Mundus apart is the nature of the universe itself. Every so often, the universe seems to 'reset' as far as the main monitoring stations know. And during that period of reset, the inherent power of creation responsible for the existence of all universes is set loose. It's thought that anyone who could possess such power would have the ability to gain anything they wanted, to recreate the world in their own image. A few attempts have been made over the years to verify the rumor, but everyone sent to test it out hasn't been seen since. It's a dangerous world, that much is certain. But every so often, a few travelers will try and brave the risk, for the promise of ultimate power. Even those that aren't looking for power can very well find a wealth of knowledge inside Mundus. And there's quite a lot that can be done to improve the lives of everyone living there, for those concerned with the health and welfare of all peoples. In a very real sense, anything's possible in a world like that. And the prospect of the freedom to be found exploring an uninitiated universe is a very alluring one. The wealth of an entire world awaits. It calls to Travelers far and wide. And those Travelers that answer the call are sure to be rewarded. |
