{D} WHITE, Vulcan; Ministry File
Topic Started: May 5 2012, 08:14 AM (265 Views)
Grayson White

General
Full Name: Vulcan Van White
Blood Status: Half Blood

Personality
5+ words that best describe your character: pompous, desperate, ruthless, deceiving, charming
Brief Personality Description: (100+ words)
Vulcan thinks very highly of himself, though he doesn’t often express this orally. It’s most apparent in how he holds himself, tall with his nose in the air and with great posture, exuding confidence wherever he might be, as if there was some sort of Auror halo around his head that made him capable of walking on water.

Though, of course, he loves his wife and the kids and all that jazz, but when someone spends more time at the office than at home, despite there being no work to be done, than that sort of speaks a great deal about a person. As they say, actions speak louder than words. He loves getting ready for work, going to work, being at work, and whenever he’s not at work, he’s thinking about work, more specifically how he can maneuver his way up the ranks, whether those maneuvers are honorable or not matters very little to him. Though a lot of good for the family comes from his dedication to his job, he doesn’t do it for any of those reasons. He’s not materialistic and not frugal, and the thought of having a lot of money doesn’t do much for him. He is driven by his hunger for power and power alone. With great power, yeah, comes responsibility and whatever, but it most importantly demands respect. He longs for that moment when he wakes up, goes to work, and people are waiting for him to tell them what to do and when to do it and to make their nerves weak and their knees shake just for standing in the same room.

With his goals targeted only around his job, naturally, so are his fears. Most people might think of horrific family tragedies like death or illness when faced with Boggarts, but his family has always taken a back seat to his career, and this is demonstrated with his greatest fear of losing his job. For fathers—yes, losing your job would most certainly not be ideal, as their primary focus in life tends to be supporting their wife and children, but Vulcan is not so respectable in that regard.

The true Vulcan has a difficult personality to get along with. He is very self-righteous and inconsiderate to other people’s feelings with hardly any empathy whatsoever. However, the true Vulcan is rarely seen, especially at the office, and the false Vulcan can be anyone and everyone’s best friend, as long as he sees what’s in it for him. If it came to it, he would gladly throw as many people as he could under the metaphorical bus just to advance but an inch closer to achieve his dreams.

Appearance
General appearance: (100+ words)
Vulcan White has the perfect body for an auror: incredibly tall with a slender, though solid, build and is as quick on his feet as he is with his tongue. On the way to work, he wears a neat, Muggle suit and tie with briefcase, polished shoes, neatly combed hair, and spritzed heavily with cologne. In the magical society, he most commonly wears black, floor-length robes, but will wear brown or gray on more casual occasions. With a receding hairline and a slight widow's peak, he slicks his short, dark brown hair back in a sophisticated style, quite suitable for the work place. His olive skin is always cleanly shaven and ready for work, and even shaves in the afternoon at work to maintain this polished and professional look at all times. More often than not, there is some sort of smile playing around his small mouth. The smile that appears on his face most often while walking down the corridors at work or in his superiors’ offices, is large—though it seems to never reach his dark yet sparkling, narrow eyes—and cold. For lack of a better word, it is fake and is used only as a tool to succeed in business. Other times, there is a mischievous sort of grin or the slightest suggestion of a smile at the corners of his mouth, which is present on his face when standing around the water cooler at work, making cynical jokes at other people's expense, which he commonly does, or doing something shifty behind closed doors that might further his career.

History
Brief History: (150+ words)
To the naked eye, the Whites are your average, every day, middle class, traditional nuclear family, headed by Vulcan, the working class father with the winning smile and with seemingly perfect and somehow modest life and family, complete with his lovely wife, the epitome of the traditional housewife, who's main concern, of course, is getting dinner on the table—oh, my goodness gracious!—before her husband comes home from work, their star athlete son, and, of course, daddy's little girl, all living in a beautiful and humble England suburban two-leveled home, complete with white picket fence and tire swing dangling from the apple tree.

Growing up, Vulcan was born right smack dab in the middle of twelve children to Valerian and Violet White and—sad to say, though not uncommon for large families—was over-looked quite a bit. In his adolescence, he had absolutely no talent or skills, magical or otherwise, and found himself forgotten on more than one occasion. None of his teachers could be impressed by him, having taught his brilliant elder siblings, and his parents just didn’t have the time or energy for everybody. It wasn’t until he was accepted into Hogwarts School and when he was unpredictably sorted into Slytherin house that people started to talk about him. It was quite plain to everyone that knew him—or even looked at him, as depressing as that sounds—that he didn’t belong and there was most certainly something wrong. Little Vulky, a Slytherin? What nonsense! Not only was the White family sure that there had never been a Slytherin in the family before, but out of all of his brothers and sisters, he was least likely to be that exception: very quiet and timid, easily manipulated and incredibly naïve. He didn’t look the part for such sterotypes, with his chubby, rosy cheeks, blonde, tufty hair, and hardly looked a day over eight years old.

When Vulcan first got to Hogwarts, away from his parents and siblings for the first time—even his elder siblings that had been at school already were quite out of reach while he was in Slytherin House—who had a tendency to tell him who he was before he could decide for himself, he discovered who he truly was. It was only a few short years at Hogwarts that changed him quite drastically until he was rather a different person in every way, shape, and form from when he first arrived. For one thing, he looked nothing like the stout, pink-faced, and uninteresting boy that he started Hogwarts as, and he grew into a slender, very tall, and charmingly attractive man with his light features darkening as he matured. Though not quite at the very top of any of his classes, he excelled in his studies, and most of his professors had only good things to say about him, though the others were not influenced by his newfound charisma and were not quite impressed as their colleagues.

He found that he was terribly competitive. He joined the Quidditch team in his fifth year and would spend nearly as much time on his studies as he did devising plans, most of which were ludicrous and outlandish, to sabotage the other teams. On a few occasions, he actually went through with his plans. Sneaking into the locker rooms, he oiled the Hufflepuffs’ broomsticks, put itching powder in the Ravenclaws’ Quidditch robes, and tried to glue Gryffindors’ locker room doors shut, so they couldn’t get to the field through their entrance, but was caught by Filch and was kicked off the team for the remainder of his school days but somehow weaseled his way out of expulsion.

Throughout his school career, Vulcan completely ignored and despised the girl that would later become Head Girl in their seventh year. When she got her badge, however, Vulcan set his sights on her, his stomach rumbling with his hunger for power and recognition, and, within a few short week of the school year, the two of them were going out. Using her badge almost as if it were his own, he talked his smitten girlfriend into giving detentions to students that annoyed him, took away housepoints unreasonably and unfairly, and held this power over his classmates, even those who he considered his closest friends, though they were hardly continued being his friends for very long after that. When her Head of House found out about this abuse of power, she lost her badge. Vulcan refused ever being involved in such situations and blamed it all on the girl, who was too weak to stand up to him. He broke up with her mere hours later and never gave her a second glance ever again.

Occupation
Your role: (100+ words giving a basic description of the job your character has and the duties required of him or her in this position)
As an auror, Vulcan is a sort of police officer for the magical community, concentrating on the dark forces. This was a very simple job when the Ministry of Magic was infiltrated by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his followers, because the work, for obvious reasons, was rather slow…But since then, everybody has been on edge and doing anything they can to prove that they were on the good side the whole time, no matter they’ve heard or what the Death Eaters might have forced them to do. For the first time in a long while, Vulcan has actually been doing his job rather than trying to schmooze his way up the corporate ladder, trying to track down the remaining Death Eaters that got away and get them to Azkaban and make sure everyone knows that he was responsible for the capture.

Assets in this role: Vulcan has proven to be an exceptional dueler, though, if not for his exceptional ass-kissing, he might still be a temp somewhere, so, one might have to give credit where it is due!

Weaknesses in this role: Rather than being an auror for genuinely wanting to help his community, his sole purpose was to gain power, control, and respect, which is all given quite freely to the glorified role as a dark wizard catcher. Being an auror for many years now, he has become desperate to go higher by any means necessary, including but not limited to, shady, questionable underground work that would most certainly defy his code of conduct and most people’s work ethic. He is fully prepared to play dirty to meet his ends, whether it be blackmail, seduction, or what have you. Vulcan White won't stop until he reaches the top, and his conscience is diminishing with every day that passes that keeps him from it.

Future goals: Head of the Auror Office

This application was one of the most detailed and enjoyable of any I have ever read, however, we must decline your application at this time. It is not because there is anything lacking in your file, but that as of the current plot conditions there is no place for such a character. As of now, we are only accepting Student Applications and Adult Applications (for professors only). BUT! We do hope you keep Vulcan White in mind for the future when the plot may call for such a position to be filled.

Feel free to PM me or any of the other Administrators if you have any questions regarding this decision. Thank you, and I hope you'll find many other fun possibilities here at Envious Magic.
